Chapter 2

1144 Words
Liz and Don had always wanted to purchase a magnificent home of their own. David and Liz worked tirelessly to clean, paint, and repair the ancient Victorian home. They spoke and exchanged tales about their lives while they worked side by side. They discussed their childhood recollections, their families, and their future goals. They uncovered hidden gems and unique characteristics of the property as they scraped away layers of old paint, filth, and dust that had accumulated over the years, painted the walls with brilliant, colorful colors, and fixed the broken windows and leaky pipes. They discovered an antique fireplace that had been walled up for years, and David demonstrated to Liz how they might refurbish and restore it. Liz was astounded by David's expertise and skill in house improvement. David was glad to educate her about DIY projects, something she had always wanted to learn more about. He taught her how to sand, paint, and decorate the walls, and together they made a lovely, snug, and trendy place. Liz found herself opening up to David about her concerns and insecurities while they worked. She revealed that she was concerned that they wouldn't be able to restore the mansion to its former splendor, but David reassured her that they were making progress and that he was convinced they could pull it off. "I know it's overwhelming," David said, wiping perspiration from his brow. "But I promise you, Liz, we're making progress, and when we're finished, this mansion will be the talk of the town." Liz looked at David skeptically. "Are you sure?" she asked, biting her lip. "I just feel like there's so much to do and so little time." David rested his hand on her shoulder and stared at her down. "Listen, Liz, I know this is a big project, but I wouldn't have taken it on if I didn't believe we could pull it off; after all, we're a team, remember?" Liz felt a weight lift off her shoulders as they chatted more. She recognized that the renovations had caused her so much anxiety and stress that it had begun to impact her relationship with David. David saw a difference in Liz's behavior and realized their chat was beneficial. He reassured her that they were all in this together and that he would be there for her every step of the way. Liz began to view the renovations as a fun endeavor, rather than a frightening one, thanks to David's support. She began to focus on the progress they had achieved rather than the work that remained. Liz and David sat on the veranda as the day came to an end, sipping wine and watching the sunset. Liz felt a wave of peace sweep over her, and she was glad for David's presence in her life. David smiled as they finished their wine. "You know," he remarked, "I've been thinking about something: why don't we throw a big party to celebrate when we finish the renovations?" Liz glanced at David, her heart filled with love. "That's a fantastic idea," she remarked, smiling. "And I know just the person who can cater it." Liz thought everything would be OK as they laughed and talked late into the night. With David at her side, she could face anything life threw at her. The house began to take on new life as the days grew into weeks. The floors sparkled, the walls were newly painted, and the furniture was placed such that the house seemed like a home. They had turned an old, run-down Victorian mansion into a lovely and friendly home. Liz couldn't help but be filled with excitement and eagerness. Liz was pleasantly delighted by the change after first being wary of the concept of relocating to an old, abandoned Victorian property. She couldn't believe how lovely the house was, and how much love and care had gone into it. They both felt a feeling of satisfaction and success as they stood on the porch of their beautifully renovated house. They couldn't wait to get inside and check out the completed result. The fragrance of new paint, wood polish, and the sound of quiet welcomed them as they came in. The mansion was a sight to behold, with every inch glistening and dazzling. They couldn't believe it was their house. They proceeded throughout the house, enjoying the beautiful features and care that went into repairing it. Finally, they arrived at their favorite room in the house: the living room. The big windows that flanked the room provided them with a breathtaking view of the outside world. They could see the stars glittering in the night sky and knew this was the ideal location to curl up and rest. They felt a sensation of warmth and comfort as they fell into the soft couch. They cuddled closer as they drew the warm blankets over them and watched the stars glitter through the windows. They felt as if they were in their own little universe, far removed from the city's buzz and bustle. The journey had been long and challenging, but the ultimate result had been well worth it. The house was now a lovely combination of old-world elegance and modern comfort. "You know, I've been thinking a lot about our future in this house," Don stated to Liz. Liz stared at him with interest. "What exactly do you mean?" "Well, I know we've put a lot of work into this place," Don answered, "but I can't help but think we could do even more with it, maybe turn it into a sort of bed and breakfast or something…" Liz's eyes widened in shock. "I hadn't even considered a bed and breakfast, but now that you mention it, it sounds like a great idea." Don cracked a grin. "I knew you'd like the idea; I think this house has so much potential that it would be a shame not to share it with others; plus, the extra money would help pay for the renovations." Liz nodded a serious nod. "You're right; it would be a lot of work, but I believe it would be worthwhile, and we could create something truly unique here." Don drew closer to Liz. "And who knows, maybe one day we'll start a family here, raising our children in this beautiful house and sharing its history with them." Liz's heart leapt with delight at this possibility. "That sounds fantastic; I can't imagine a better place to raise a family." Don smiled. "Neither do I; this house has already brought us so much joy, and I'm excited to see what the future holds." Liz and Don thought they had built something very wonderful as they sat there, fantasizing of their future in their freshly remodeled house. They had no idea, however, of the hidden history of their recently remodeled Victorian home. *****
