Twenty-Four | He Wasn't Lying

1131 Words
Cal He’s a wolf. He wasn’t lying. Werewolves are real. I’m sitting on Titus’ bed in the middle of his room. Looking around I never would’ve thought that he was a wolf. He seems completely normal. I can't stop thinking of his wolf's appearance. He was a brilliant chocolate brown wolf with a white tips on his ears and his feet. His eyes were that same ocean blue that captivated me the first time that I saw him. Honestly, I was drawn to him. How could I not be? But whenever I heard his wolf whimper it frightened me. I wasn't sure if he was in control and I had to get away in order to process everything. I hear a light tap on the door and my heart pitter patters at the thought of seeing Titus again so soon. I hear his soft voice, “Cali, can I see you, please?” I exhale slowly as I get off of his bed and walk towards the door. I open it and he looks at me with a relieved expression. I cross my arms and ask, “What do I need to know?” He tilts his head to the side, confused by my question and he asks, “What do you mean, princess?” I bite my lower lip as I try to think of my next words and I say, “You’re a werewolf… and you live in this giant house. My friends seem very close to your friends… what do I need to know?” He clears his throat and sits on the edge of the bed and looks down at the spot beside him until I sit and join him. When I do, he smiles a smile that makes my heart melt. He says, “Well, firstly, Olive and Eric are mates, and Hugh and Britt are as well. All werewolves have a mate somebody we are destined to be with.” I nod in understanding and he hesitates, but lightly holds my hand in his. I look at him and he breathes out and says, “You are my mate, Calliope.” “So, it’s like written in the stars? Werewolves don’t get a choice in who they love it just happens?” He chuckles and says, “No, we get a choice, Cali. The mate bond draws us to one another and makes an undeniable attraction, it makes every touch feel electric… but you can choose to reject your mate.” My eyebrows furrow in confusion and I ask, “Why would you reject someone?” He laughs nervously, “Well, you’re a human… you could choose to reject me because I am a werewolf.” I bite my tongue… I don’t think I could ever do that, but I don’t want to say that because what if something were to happen to make me want to reject him? I say, “What does marking someone mean?” The corner of his mouth twitches up and he says, “Well, I would bite right here,” His finger lightly grazes over the space where my neck meets my shoulder and he says, “It would create a mark so everyone would know you are mine. And because I know at some point you will hear about this… getting a mark does not complete the mating process. The mating process is complete when we get um, intimate.” I feel my cheeks heat up at the mention of that and I say, “Okay, what else should I know? I feel like I can’t fully accept you or your world without knowing what I’m getting myself into.” Titus She’s open to my world. My god, the moon goddess really paired me with the perfect girl. I smile and nod as I say, “I love that you feel that way, Cali. I don’t want you to feel forced into this relationship. I have really strong feelings for you and it’s more than just the mate bond.” She nods in understanding and I say, “Um, what else should you know? I am the Alpha so that means I am the leader of our pack.” She nods processing the information and asks, “How big is your pack?” “Roughly 300 people. We’re constantly growing as people find their mates and begin to have pu-children.” I quickly corrected myself from calling the kids pups. I don’t want her to think that wolves are all that we are. She says, “So, if you’re the Alpha then what would that make me if we stay together?” I smile as I answer, “You would be the Luna. Pretty much you would help support me in our daily decisions, you would be the hostess if we had visitors, you would-” I stop talking when I see Cali’s face contort into one full of pain. I crouch down and grab her face forcing her to look at me and I ask, “Cali, what’s wrong?” She gasps and says, “It hurts, Titus.” “What hurts, Cali?” She doesn’t answer me, and I can see the panic in her eyes before they and roll into the back of her head and she falls into my arms. I stutter as I yell, “M-mom!” I hold Cali in my arms and pet her hair and say, “It’s okay, my love, you’ll be okay.” I turn back towards the door and yell desperately, “MOM!” I get in the mind link and command to Eric and Hugh: I need my mom and the pack doctor-NOW! I didn’t pay attention to their response knowing that my second and third in command have it covered. I hear my mom’s footsteps as she rushes to my side and asks, “What happened?” “I-I don’t know we were talking and suddenly she started winces and telling me she was in pain.” She feels her head and says, “Get some wet rags, dear, she’s burning up.” I nod and rush to my restroom and when I come back, I see our pack doctor examining her. It gives me a little relief to see that she’s being taken care of so quickly, but I’m still terrified something horrible is going to happen to her.
