Seven | Tension

Olive Time seemed to fly by when I was with my mate. And I know my best friend, Britt, must feel the same way with hers. What neither of us seemed to realize though is just how much time went by. We've left our best friend, Cal, out in the dust! Guilt consumed me when I came to the realization. It's normal for werewolves to get caught up in their mates, but normally our friends understand because they'll experience the same thing. Not in this case though, we aren't allowed to reveal our world to Cal since she's just a human. On top of that, things have been crazy ever since we found our mates! Some of this time we’ve been spending with Eric and Hugh, but the Starry Shadows pack and the Crescent Moon pack are both dealing with a lot of rogue problems which has made it hard for us to transfer packs. Titus is also really tense because Alexander is refusing to make an alliance with him unless he agrees to make Haley his Luna. It’s true that an alliance would help a lot of issues, but a forced mating is not the right way to go about it. It makes Titus furious and Alexander is being stubborn, and you can feel the irritation that rolls off of Titus. I’m grateful that Cal allowed us to have lunch with her and I love how well she and the guys seem to get along. We end up doing the same thing for the next couple of days and by the end of lunch on the second day Cal and Eric were even cracking jokes as we walked to class. It made my heart warm up with love for this man. I know he’s not fond of humans, most wolves aren’t just because they have a tendency to either be petrified of us or want to hunt us. But Cal isn’t like that. I mean, we’ve never told her that we’re werewolves, but I would be really surprised if she stopped being around us or tried to kill us due to that. Especially the killing part, this girl doesn't have it in her to try to kill anything not even a fly! It’s Friday now and I cannot wait for the homecoming dance tomorrow. We’ve got all our plans in order and it’s going to be really good for us three girls to have some time together. Although, due to our living situation that we can’t explain to Cal we have to get ready at her house. Neither Britt nor I really like going over there due to the smell. It doesn’t stink, it just always seems to smell like chemicals and due to our heightened senses, it was hard to be around that all the time. Eric wraps his arm around me as we leave class and head to the cafeteria. I jump a little when I hear Titus’ voice, “There you are!” Eric looks at me curiously and Titus looks at me oddly too and I smile uncomfortably, “Sorry, you just surprised me,” I whisper, “Alpha.” He looks around us making sure no one was too close and says lowly, “You’re about to be our Beta female, Olive. You don’t need to do the formalities with me unless we’re in a large crowd.” I nod in understanding and he looks at Eric and says, “Now, either I’m joining you guys for lunch or you’re joining me. I cannot stand to be alone with Haley and Alexander again.” I can’t help but smirk from his panicked voice and Eric chuckles as we all continue to walk, “Aw, you’re scared of your ‘mate’.” Titus rolls his eyes and lets out a low growl, “I hate that they keep trying to call her that.” I nod, “Haley’s always been power hungry, Titus. She’s just trying to leech onto you before you can find your real mate. Also, I don’t know if you’ll really want to join us for lunch.” “Why is that?” I open my mouth to speak and Eric shushes me softly and I look and see both his and Titus’ eyes glaze over showing that they're linking. Titus huffs and looks at me, “You can trust this girl?” I nod, “With my life.” I hear Haley’s screechy voice as she rushes towards us, “Titus, baby!” He groans and waves his hand dismissing us and Eric and I rush into the cafeteria laughing to ourselves. Cal Only one more day till homecoming. This week has been pretty nice. I’m actually getting along pretty well with Olive and Britt’s boyfriends and we have a solid plan for tomorrow night’s dance. I’m the first at our lunch table which isn’t surprising. Although Olive, Eric, and I try to walk together the two of them typically get distracted by one of Eric’s friends and I just come and save our table. Everyone slowly joins me, and I look towards the entrance and I see Adonis- I mean… Titus. That’s what Eric and Hugh said his name is. But it looks like he’s starting to head this way, but then Haley blocks him pulling him into a kiss. I can’t help but feel like there’s a dagger going through my heart and I quickly stand up and excuse myself and I rush outside. I don’t understand these feelings I have for that boy, but I know I need to get used to it because obviously he and Haley are a couple. I hear the door open behind me and I turn to see Olive, Britt, Eric, and Hugh looking at me with concerned faces. Olive touches my forehead and asks, “Are you okay, Cal? You look a little flush.” I force a smile, “Yeah, I’m fine. I just got overheated in there.” Hugh chuckles, “I get it. Sometimes some fresh air is all you need.” I nod and Britt passes me her water bottle and says, “Here have a drink.” I nod my thanks and Eric tries to distract me by asking, “So, uh um, do you have a date for tomorrow, Cal?” I shake my head no and say, “Originally the girls and I were going together, but then they found you guys. No big deal though, we still get to hang out before the dance and even during; I just won’t stick around for slow songs.” Eric and Hugh both chuckle at my remark and Hugh says, “We don’t want to come in between you guys- if you want them at any point during the night just let us know.” Eric nods in agreement and I smile, “Thank you guys, that’s really sweet of you.” They both nod and one of the girls says something catching their attention and I excuse myself quietly and walk away and pull out my phone so I can text my dad. He always makes me feel better when I feel uneasy.
