Eight | Getting Ready

1054 Words
Titus I put on a navy-blue suit and pair it with a golden yellow tie. My mom squeals when I come down the stairs and asks while wiggling her eyebrows in a suggestive manner, “Do you have a special date tonight?” I sigh and shake my head no, “You know I haven’t found my mate yet.” She nods and I can feel the disappointment waving off of her as she walks away. When she comes back into the room she brings back a golden mask and tells me with a small smile, “Don’t forget it’s a masquerade, my love.” I place the mask on my face and there’s a knock on the door and my mom rushes to get it and Hugh and Eric walk in and my mom is now tearing up and says, “You three are such handsome men! You look so much like your fathers.” She said the comment to all of us, but her eyes settle on me and a tear runs down her face, but she turns away, so we don’t see. Both of the guys look good and I can tell from their nervous energy that they’re hoping for something special to happen tonight. I smirk as I tease them, “Hoping to mate tonight?” Hugh throws his head back groaning and says, “Dude, you have no idea how difficult it is to not mark her right now. I am praying that tonight is the night because I’m not sure how much more I can take.” Eric nods in agreement and my mom walks back in and says, “Come on, boys, let’s get a picture.” We get together and smile for her and sighs in happiness then looks at Hugh and Eric and says, “I wish your mates were here. Why don’t you call them over so we can get a nice photo of you all together?” Eric answers, “I wish we could, Luna, but they are getting ready tonight with a human friend of theirs and they won’t ditch her. So, how about this? We promise we will get a picture of all of us.” She huffs, “I suppose that will do.” I walk over to my mom and kiss her cheek as the boys walk out of the room and I say, “I’ll see you later mom. Link me or call me if you need anything, okay?” She smiles as she runs a hand through my hair and says, “Oh, don’t worry about me, Titus. We’ll be fine for one night. Go have fun and let loose- who knows? You might just find her.” She winks at me after her last sentence and I roll my eyes in response then walk out the door. I’m beginning to lose hope on ever finding my mate here. I’ve already traveled a lot looking for her that a part of me wonders if maybe she died and that’s why I haven’t been able to find her. Cal It’s finally time for the homecoming dance. Britt and Olive came over early this morning and Britt has been practically jumping with excitement since she gets to give both me and Olive a makeover. She spent hours on me making sure that every single part of me looks perfect. She has my eye shadow primarily a hot pink that faded out to a golden yellow to match my dress, she used turquoise eyeliner as well to match, I don’t know what kind of mascara she used on me but it looks like I put on fake lashes with how long they are, and she put hot pink lipstick on me that is supposed to last for hours, but just in case she put it in my clutch so if I needed to touch it up I could. Britt and Olive both look at me as if I’m some kind of mythical creature. Olive hugs me tightly and exclaims, “You look perfect!” I smile back at her, “You do too, both of you!” I look at Britt whose long red hair was in a bun with little ringlets framing her face and she wore a black dress. It had lace on the bodice, and it flared out into a black satin on the bottom. Olive wore a red dress that had a flower design on the shoulders and her black hair was straightened so her hair hit right above her collar bone. I’m positive that Eric and Hugh will be stunned by how beautiful they are. I sigh softly as we get ready to go downstairs. I hope the girls didn’t hear me because I don’t want them to think I’m upset- I’m not. It’s just… they both have dates, and I don’t. It’s my senior year and I’ve always had Alex before and now… I’m going to be left alone with no one to dance with. Before Olive and Britt met the guys, I was looking forward to having a girl’s night together. I’m so happy for them and I’m thrilled they are both so happy, but it hurts to think of being left alone. The three of us go out to the living room where my mom immediately fawns over us. My dad stands behind my mom and nods in agreement and tells the girls they look nice. He comes and hugs me and says, “You look so grown up, lovebug.” I smile at him as he brings out a corsage and as he puts it on me, he says, “Oh, I got you more of that perfume you love.” I grin, “Thanks dad.” He gives it to me, and I spray it all over myself and he grins, “I love you, Cal.” He steps back and my mom insists on taking pictures. It feels like she took a hundred of them, but I know this isn’t a normal event, so I smile with no complaints. When she’s finally done, we walk out to the car and I notice both of the girls giddy with excitement and I find myself feeling giddy too. Tonight, is going to be a good night. I can just feel it.
