"Patrick, are you okay?" as she spoke, her tone shifted, "Scarlett, Patrick is your husband. How could you let someone treat him like this?"
Scarlett had to admit this was a clever way to manipulate her with guilt.
The people around started murmuring.
"I know Scarlett. She's the typical Cinderella who married a wealthy man, but it's been three years, and she still hasn't had a child. What man would tolerate that?"
"Look at her now, being held by another man. She must have cheated first!"
Scarlett signaled Wesley to let go of her and then looked at everyone around her.
"Cut the nonsense. He's just my friend! Patrick tried to hit me earlier because of Brenda. Wesley was just trying to protect me! If you don't know the whole story, don't spread rumors!"
At that moment, Cynthia chimed in as well, "Scarlett's right. You all are acting like she's the guilty one! It was Patrick who cheated. Scarlett was supposed to divorce him today! But Patrick lied to Scarlett, saying he needed to take care of Brenda!"
Hearing Cynthia defend her, Scarlett added. "If Brenda were really so sick, how could she have the energy to come to the mall? And she was yelling so loudly just now?"
Patrick, supported by Brenda, glared at Scarlett with fury.
"You just can't stand seeing Brenda and me together, can you?"
Scarlett felt bitterness rise in her throat. 'Whatever Brenda did was always right, and whatever I did was always wrong. It is all because he doesn't love me at all.' She tried to hold back her sorrow and retorted without mercy, "Did you ever think about how I would feel when you were in bed with her? Should I show everyone the photos I took yesterday so they can know the truth?"
Patrick was so angry at that moment that he almost wanted to kill Scarlett.
"You dare!"
What Brenda said next surprised not only Scarlett but also Wesley.
"Patrick, we indeed did the wrong thing! Just apologize to Scarlett."
She then continued. "Scarlett, Patrick was going to file for divorce with you. But I didn't want to hurt you, so I asked Patrick to lie. If you want to blame someone, blame me!"
With that, she let go of Patrick and walked towards Scarlett, looking frail.
She suddenly knelt in front of Scarlett with a thud.
Her voice trembled as if she could faint at any moment. "Scarlett, if it will make you feel better, go ahead and hit me!"
She closed her eyes as she spoke.
Scarlett had to admit Brenda was playing her role well.
But Scarlett wasn't easy to fool either.
"If you want me to calm down, that's fine, but only if..."
Before she could finish, Patrick interrupted her angrily.
"I betrayed you, Scarlett. Brenda has nothing to do with it!"
Scarlett fell silent for a moment and then looked at Cynthia and Wesley.
"There's plenty of time. I'll make sure to get justice for what I've suffered."
Wesley gazed intently at Scarlett. "I'm always here for you whenever you need me."
Scarlett didn't say anything, not wanting to give anyone the wrong idea.
After parting ways with Wesley, Cynthia teased with a smile, "Mr. Kingsley seems nice. I can tell he cares about you, unlike Patrick!"
Scarlett immediately asked, "How can you be so sure? Don't say things like that!"
Cynthia pouted. "The way he looks at you says it all."
Then, as if remembering something, she handed Scarlett a business card. "Mr. Kingsley asked me to give this to you."
Scarlett took the gold-embossed card. The name Wesley Kingsley stood out prominently in the center.
Turning it over, she noticed his phone number on the back.
But what caught her attention was the orchid in the lower left corner, matching the brooch on his suit.
'Could he really be connected to the boy who saved me years ago? I have to find time to figure this out.'
The next day, on her way to the hospital, Scarlett reflected on her life. Despite marrying Patrick, she had earned her wealth through other business ventures and was now the hidden owner of Aerionia's largest hospital. Behind the scenes, she was also the mysterious and powerful leader of Aerionia, feared and respected in both the legal and underworld.
However, she was stopped by her biological father when she went back.
Her upbringing had been far from ideal. Her father, Bryce Wilson, was a gambler, and her mother left when she was ten and never returned.
Once, her father tried to sell her on the black market, but Albert Hastings intervened and adopted her as his own daughter.
She and Patrick were childhood sweethearts before his memory loss from the car accident changed everything.
Bryce's angry voice interrupted Scarlett's thoughts. "It's been three months since you last gave me any money!"
Scarlett's tone was not only angry but also filled with sadness.
"As my father, have you ever cared about me for anything other than money?"
Bryce responded impatiently, "You already married Patrick. What kind of hardship could you possibly be going through? Enough with the excuses. Just give me the money!"
Scarlett felt a pang of sadness, and her voice turned cold.
"Patrick and I are getting divorced. I left with nothing. Don't ask me for money again!"
She then turned to leave, but after taking only a few steps, Bryce yanked her hair, stopping her.
"What? What nonsense are you spouting? How dare you divorce Patrick? Are you out of your mind?"
The pain from having her hair pulled was excruciating, and Scarlett forcefully pulled Bryce's hand away.
"He cheated on me with another woman. Have you ever really cared about how I feel? Is there anything besides asking me for money in your head?"
Bryce, humiliated by her words, became furious.
"I don't care if you're divorced or not. You must give me money, or don't think about leaving."
Scarlett wasn't surprised by her father's words.
"If I don't, can you really kill me?" as she said this, tears blurred her vision.
Bryce showed no concern for Scarlett's distress and only spoke more harshly, "You must give me money today, whether you want to or not!"
With that, he clapped his hands.
Soon, dozens of thugs quickly surrounded Scarlett.
She remained on guard as they moved closer.
Just as one of the thugs was about to attack her, Scarlett prepared to defend herself, but before she could react, she noticed Wesley approaching swiftly.
Wesley had already carried her to a safe place when she realized what was happening.
All the thugs had been kicked away by Wesley, flying several yards.
Scarlett was about to say something to Wesley when Bryce confronted him.
Bryce threatened. "Who do you think you are meddling in my business?"
Wesley's sharp gaze turned to Bryce.
"Ms. Wilson doesn't need a father like you! You don't deserve to be her father."
Hearing this, Bryce became so angry he swung his fist towards Wesley's face.
Wesley didn't dodge. He caught Bryce's fist and shoved him to the ground.
Wesley's voice was icy. "If it weren't for Ms. Wilson, I'd make sure you end up in jail today!" he said this and grabbed Scarlett's arm firmly.
"Come with me!"
Scarlett found Wesley's commanding presence incredibly attractive.
But she didn't dare to let herself fall for him easily.
As they walked into a nearby alley, Wesley suddenly said something that surprised Scarlett.
