Chapter 4 Kill Her

1088 Words
"You've always wanted to know why I've been helping you like this!" Scarlett stared at Wesley, her expression tinged with suspicion. "Are you really going to tell me?" Wesley's eyes held a distance she hadn't seen before. "We're partners, Scarlett. Helping you is also helping myself." At that moment, Scarlett's phone rang. Wesley gestured for Scarlett to take the call, turning his head away. After Scarlett answered the call, she learned that someone was causing trouble in the hospital lobby. He insisted on going with her when she explained the situation to Wesley. When they arrived at the lobby, the person causing the disturbance turned out to be Brenda's ex-husband, Caspian Graham. Brenda had been caught in a hotel with Patrick, and when confronted, she claimed they were already divorced. Caspian, usually refined and gentle, was now livid, veins bulging on his forehead. "Scarlett, aren't you going to do something about your man? He seduced Brenda! That's why she left me!" Scarlett couldn't help but find it ironic. 'Brenda, with her impressive act, is quite skilled at fooling with men. Otherwise, why would Caspian still be hung up on her after their divorce?' "Maybe you've got the wrong person. I'm divorcing Patrick, so you should take this up with him." Caspian looked shocked. "You love Patrick so much. Why would you divorce him?" Scarlett took a deep breath. "My love got me nothing but betrayal. He cheated on me with Brenda. This marriage means nothing to me now." However, Caspian's words surprised Scarlett. "I don't care if you and Patrick are divorced. You must fix it all, or I'll destroy your hospital." With a hammer in hand, Caspian headed towards the pharmacy. Scarlett wanted to stop him, but Wesley blocked Caspian first. In a cold tone, Wesley said, "I'll explain everything to you. Come with me." Caspian wanted to argue, but Wesley's intimidating presence made him hesitate. Scarlett was worried but reassured by Wesley's reassuring gaze. Then, Wesley and Brenda left the hospital. She instructed the hospital director to soothe the patients and followed after them. When she came outside, Wesley's words struck Scarlett deeply. "Scarlett is the one who was hurt the most! She fought to save her marriage, only for the man she loved to turn against her and want to kill her to protect another woman!" Caspian was silent for a moment and then glared at Wesley. "Who are you to Scarlett? Why are you defending her? If you don't tell me today, I won't let Scarlett go. If she had kept Patrick around, Brenda wouldn't have left me!" Though Wesley had said earlier that he was only helping her because of their partnership, Scarlett sensed he was hiding something. Wesley's expression was unreadable. "She's my partner." Caspian snapped, swinging a punch at Wesley's face. "Partner, my foot! Scarlett must have cheated first, so Patrick got back at her by cheating with Brenda." Scarlett realized she had misjudged Wesley's intentions, but even so, she disliked owing people favors. She rushed to intervene. But Wesley's movements were very quick. He caught Caspian's arm and twisted it, dislocating it instantly. Caspian immediately cried out in pain. Wesley's voice dripped with menace. "Say that again? I dare you!" He pinched Caspian's neck, poised to snap it. Scarlett felt that Caspian might die and stopped him. "Don't kill him! I don't want you to kill someone for me." Wesley frowned but quickly released Caspian, who collapsed to the ground, gasping for air, his eyes filled with terror. "I won't let you two get away with this!" He scrambled to his feet and fled. Wesley's gaze was still fixed on Scarlett. "Why didn't you let me teach him a lesson?" Scarlett looked serious. "I don't know your true intentions, but you've helped me out of several tight spots. I don't want you to ruin your life over me." For the first time, she saw Wesley smile so mysteriously. "You're smart, more determined than Patrick." Scarlett didn't want to continue this topic, so she changed the subject. "I have matters in the hospital to attend to. You should get back to yours too." Wesley nodded and left. That evening, Scarlett was invited to a party. She wore a white gown with a single shoulder strap, paired with a camellia ribbon accessory, making her look elegant and ethereal. A few socialites nearby couldn't help but gossip. "Look at Scarlett, still dressing up even though Mr. Hastings is about to dump her!" "No wonder Mr. Hastings cheated with a married woman. Just look at that cold face of hers!" Scarlett was about to retort when she heard a weak female voice. "Please don't spread rumors. I didn't ruin Scarlett's marriage! I've been begging Patrick not to sign the divorce papers, or else I would feel guilty for life." But in her heart, Brenda was gleeful, knowing Scarlett's real pain was yet to come. Scarlett's face twisted in irony, but before she could respond, she saw Brenda deliberately collapse to the floor. Patrick, who had just entered the party, rushed over. He glared at Scarlett and grabbed her by the throat. "Brenda was just defending you. How could you push her!" Scarlett tried to dodge, but Patrick moved too fast. She was about to be choked, and tears welled up in her eyes. 'How much did Patrick distrust me?' In that critical moment, she felt someone firmly pull her behind. The scent of cedar told her it was Wesley. Wesley moved swiftly, pinching Patrick's neck. In a cold tone, he said, "How could you accuse her? Should I upload the photos of you and Brenda having s*x to the LED screens here?" Brenda, who had just scrambled to her feet, turned deathly pale. Her voice, still dripping with fake innocence, said, "Mr. Kingsley, if you have anything against him, come at me! I did the wrong thing. This has nothing to do with Patrick." People around began to murmur, "I thought Brenda had nothing to do with Mr. Hastings. Turns out they've already slept together! Otherwise, why would Mr. Hastings stay so silent?" Patrick's eyes turned red with fury. "Blame me, not Brenda! If she hadn't nursed me back to health, I'd still be a vegetable." Scarlett felt heartbroken, covering her chest. 'So Patrick believed Brenda was the reason he woke up. Had I really misjudged everything?' "You tried to kill me just because you believed Brenda saved you! What did I ever do to you, Patrick, to make you so heartless towards me?"
