CHAPTER THIRTEEN –––––––– NICK AND ADAM TOOK turns to check around the ranch the entire morning. One of them always remained with Diane, although she had promised Adam not to go out if they weren’t there. Adam didn’t say whether he believed her or not, but he didn’t leave her by herself in the house, either. Nick knew where Adam had spent the night. He had heard the two of them going upstairs the night before, and he had seen Adam coming out of Diane’s room in the morning. However, he didn’t ask any personal questions.
