AT AROUND FOUR IN THE afternoon, Kate and Ryan drove into the ranch yard. Ryan drove slowly, following Adam’s directions. The booby traps were still in place, and he would have preferred to get to the house in one piece.
Ryan didn’t even turn off the engine that Kate got off the car and slammed the door behind her. She stomped to the stairs where Diane, Adam, and Nick were waiting. Adam’s brows rose, and Nick scowled.
Ryan followed Kate with long strides and caught up with her before she reached the stairs. He attempted to grab her arm, but she pulled away irately.
“Troubles in paradise?” Adam mused, and Ryan sneered at him.
Nick elbowed Adam to keep his mouth shut. Adam had a talent to enrage Ryan, especially when it came to Kate.
