THEY MET IN THE FRONT yard of the ranch. Their faces darkened with worry when they advanced toward the house. The door had been broken in, and Adam’s heart skipped a beat. He started running up the stairs. Nick shook his head over his action. Adam had thrown any caution to the wind, and he knew better than that. It could have been a trap. Both Nick and Ryan took out their guns. Nick signaled Ryan that he should go in the back, and Ryan nodded. Nick took only a few steps when Adam’s chilling roar came from inside, followed by his shout to Ryan. “Ryan, come here now.” Ryan’s blood froze, but he forced himself to run up the stairs.
