Prologue.
OLIVIA’S POV "You have no right to control me!" Michael exclaimed, anger flaring in his nostrils. "Yes, I cheated on you with Selena, but it's all your fault! You always prioritize your damn career over me!" He said it as if that was a valid excuse to betray a partner. What a disgusting jerk. I couldn't believe this was happening to me. We had been happily married for four years, and now he was using my career as justification for his affair with my best friend? Where did everything went wrong? What did I ever do to deserve such backstabbing and betrayal? A lump of anger instantly formed inside my throat. Without even realizing it, my legs carried me towards Selena, who shamelessly lounged on top of our marital bed. Before I could use my five fingers to wipe that smug look off her face, Michael had forcefully pulled me back, hurling me across the floor. "Don't you dare try that!" he warned with a grave tone. "Selena is my woman, and I won't stand by while you hurt her. She's not like you, who chooses a career over her own husband! You've already failed as a wife. You couldn't bear a child for me in four long years. But now, I'm finally going to have an heir. Selena is pregnant with my baby." What? This was unbelievable. It meant that they’d been doing it behind my back for a long time. I looked up at Michael, locking my eyes with him. "I will never forgive both of you for this. You know I have ways to get back at you, Michael. And I will certainly ruin both you and that two-faced backstabber I mistook for a best friend!" The words barely managed to escape my broken voice. "Oh, really? Do you think being rich and powerful will make me afraid, succumb, and continue to be a loyal husband to a woman like you? You're pathetic, Olivia. I'm a man, after all, and I'll always be one step ahead of you. And don't even think about threatening Selena in the future, because that's when I'll show you just how capable I am of taking that damn company away from you." Did this man ever truly love me during our marriage? Had I been blinded by love, unable to see the truth? He said Selena was pregnant. Since when did Michael wanted a child? We didn't try for a baby because he claimed he wasn't ready to be a Father. Now, he’d twisted it all up like it was a failing on my part. To say that I was hurt would be an understatement. I felt betrayed and humiliated, but I refused to let them see the extent of the pain they had inflicted on me. "I never knew you could be this shameless, Michael. I hope Karma teaches you a lesson," I said, my voice filled with bitterness. "Just remember that you've lost me forever, and I will never forgive you." "You're welcome. And yes, do help us prepare the divorce papers. Selena and I will be together, whether you like it or not." I stood up and left the house on that cold night. Just because the house belonged to Michael didn't mean I had nowhere else to go. I was the President of Morrison Group and had my own houses and a busy life even before I got married to him. I had amassed a fortune that could sustain and provide for an entire generation's basic needs. Not even Michael knew the extent of my wealth because I wanted to live a simple, humble, and happy life with him. But I supposed that life never allow anyone to have everything their way. For the next couple of days, I couldn't bring myself to go to work. I felt sick, tired, and utterly drained—emotionally, physically, and psychologically. With no one else to turn to, my mind was consumed by chaos. My only family member was in Chicago —my mother, who had recently remarried and moved there with her new husband. My biological father passed away when I was three years old, and I never had any other man in my life to rely on, except for my husband who had turned out to be the worst scum I’d ever met. I thought I just needed a little time to heal and move on with my life. Because I believed I could be strong enough to handle everything on my own and sever my ties with Michael. That was until I discovered that I was about two months pregnant with his baby.
