Chapter twelve - Soon she will be home

2668 Words
Josh's POV: Mom keeps visiting Kylie, hoping that she can convince her to come home with her. I think this will happen soon. From what I heard from my mom, the girl became a bit soft around her. Maybe she likes her presents. My mom enjoys spoiling people. She does it most for my sister and me. It's not like we mind. I love receiving gifts from my mom. We need to appreciate her more. I mean, she does many things for us. Kylie will be lucky if she comes to live here. My parents can't replace hers, but they will make her feel welcome. At least she will feel like she has a family again. I don't know what my mom saw in her. She said that was the girl she wanted. I'm glad that she found what she has been looking for. Rosie is excited as well. My friends make fun of me. It's a what-if joke. They talk about what will happen if I fall for her and want to date her. Even if this happens, I can't do it. She will be my sister, no matter if it's biological or not. The surprising thing that happened is that my sister hadn't pranked Austin last week. That's why I believe that is because she is planning something big. Honestly, I don't know why he left her to do it. It was fun at the beginning, but now it's not. Well, some of her pranks are good. Probably when she grows up, she will stop doing it. Maybe a boy will get into her head. That will happen too one day. Rosie better lives her childhood for as long as she can. I like being a teenager, but I want to play and don't care about anything. Right now, all I can think about is Kylie. I haven't seen her yet. Mom will bring her home soon. I feel it. Some things take time, and I'm glad my mom is patient. Rosie is already making plans for her, no matter that she hasn't seen her. It's good that so many people care about her. I hope that we can make her feel good at home. I woke up and went to get ready for the day. I wish it has been the weekend. It's not like I did something interesting. The whole time I was with my friends and sister. Honestly, I could've left her with my parents. She wanted to come with us. The boys don't mind it, so don't I. She is not noisy and likes everything we do. When we go to the cinema, we pick a movie suitable for her. I can let her watch the same movies as us, but she might have nightmares. That is not something I want to happen. When I was ready, I went for breakfast. Rosie and my mom were at the table. My sister loves helping my mom with everything. The reason is that she likes spending time with her. I can't blame her. As I have said before, my mom enjoys spoiling us. I am around her as well, but not that often. We all know Rose is her baby. Soon, my dad came to the table as well. No matter what mom cooks, it's always delicious. That's why I eat everything, and sometimes I ask for more. - Mom, the breakfast is delicious. - I said - Thank you, honey. I'm glad you like it. - I like everything you cook. - Well, I would like it if you could learn. - Let's not ask for too much. - It doesn't hurt to help. - All you have to do is tell me when you need me. - Being available for me is something I like. After breakfast, my mom took Rosie and me to school. The boys were waiting for me in front of my locker. They do it only when they want to talk with me or if something has happened. - Hey, guys. Is there a problem? - No. - Devan said - Then why are you here? You two never come just like that. There is always a reason. - I wanted to see if your mom would show up. - Austin said, chuckling - Please, never say this. I don't want people to think you are trying on my mom. - Well, she is a beautiful woman. - Austin! - I am messing with you. I like your mom, but I prefer girls my age. - Good. Let's go to class now. I don't want to be late. On the lunch break, the boys and I went for food. I heard there had been an argument between some boys. This is the hot news today. Usually, nothing interesting happens at school. Well, we don't need bad things to happen. I hope this won't turn into something big. Let's say that some boys in school like to show themselves. I mean, to prove who they are and what they can do. We were eating when someone gave us a flyer. It was about a party. - It looks like someone is making a party. - Austin said - I don't care. I won't go. - I said - You never go. - I am not interested, ok? Also, I need to watch Rosie. - No, your parents can do it. On the flyer, it says that the party is at 7 pm. Your parents will be at home. - Ok. I still won't go. - That is your problem. - Will you go? - No way. I have a feeling who the host of this party is. I don't want to be in the same room as her. - As who? - Devan asked - Look there, my friend. You will see her. - Now I get it. I guess none of us will go again. - Yes. - Cool. The boys and I talked until the end of the lunch break. Later, we went for the rest of our classes. After the last one, I went to take Rosie from school as usual. She was waiting for me. When she saw me, she came for a hug. Then she gave me a piece of paper. It was a drawing. Honestly, it looks nice. - Nice drawing, Rosie. - I said - This is you and the boys, playing with me. - Do we have to guess who is who? - No, I will tell you. This is you, and that is Austin. This is Devan. - Finally, I am taller than you. - Devan said, chuckling - Rosie, you need to fix this. - Austin said - Ok, I will do it when I go home. The drawing is not perfect, but I have to say my sister has some skills. I can't draw that well. All of us walked home. The boys and I started studying. This time Rosie wanted to do her homework with us. It looks so easy. When I was her age, I didn't think the same. I wish someone could solve mine. - Can someone help me with this? I can't solve it. - Rosie said - Give it to us. - Austin said I don't know why he helps her so much, but I'm glad he does it. These two are good friends. Hopefully, they will manage to keep their friendship in the future. - Did you understand the solution? - Austin asked - Yes, thank you. - Rosie said and continued with her homework All of us were occupied with our schoolwork for the next two hours. Rosie did it a bit early and wanted to play with us. We agreed to do it, but after we finished. My sister went into her room. I hope she is not planning another prank for Austin. I think she can stop doing it. I mean, she is already eleven. These games are for kids. Everyone has to act like a kid once in a while. I went to check on her after I finished everything for the day. She was playing with her stuffed animals. - Hello. What do you want us to do now? We are all yours. - Thanks, but I am playing now. You can leave if you want. - Did I do something to you? - Why is your homework longer than mine? You never have enough time for me. - I'm sorry, but I am a senior. I have more work to do than you. - Why? - Because my subjects are more complicated. - What does it mean? - It means that it will take me more time to write it. - That is not fair. - I'm sorry, but I can't control this. Let's go to play now. The boys are waiting for us. - Really? - Yes. You and Austin can form a team. - Awesome. Let's go. - Rosie said and rushed out of her room I don't know if Austin wants this, but he has to deal with it. Also, my sister is not annoying. Sometimes she can be, but that is rare. I'm glad to have such a good sister. She doesn't complain about anything. First, she wanted us to play Monopoly. It's a game with more than twenty versions. Some of them are made after movies or tv shows. I have wondered what the original version was. I guess I will never find out. After that, she wanted us to play hide and seek. Rosie grew up. It was hard for her to fit in her usual spots. Well, she found good ones. Around 6 pm, my mom was at home. As always, Rosie ran for a hug. I feel like this will happen even when my sister grows up. It's not like that is something horrible. I'm happy that my mom has time for us. She invited the boys for dinner. Today, they decided to stay. - When will we see the mysterious girl, Kylie? - Austin asked - Hopefully, it will be soon. - mom said - She is lucky to have you as her second mom. - You know her parents died, right? - I asked - Yes. That's why I said it. Your mom will be her second one. - That is true. I think Kylie needs more time. Mom is nice to her. It will take her time to accept a new family. - Especially when she has been through more than one. - mom said - What will happen if your son falls for her? - Austin asked, chuckling - I don't know. They are not blood-related. - Yes, but she will be my sister. I can't date her. Also, she might not want to talk about herself. - Josh, you can ask her questions when I take her here. It doesn't mean she will tell you everything. - That will happen for sure. - If she is hot, I might try on her. - Austin said - Nice try, but it won't work. - Devan said - Why? - Do you think she will want to date you? I bet the girl has other things in her head. - If you say so, It doesn't mean I can't try. - I will watch how you get rejected. That will be the best movie ever. - You wish. - Don't say I didn't warn you. - We'll see, shall we? The boys stayed at home until 10 pm. Of course, they played with my sister. Well, mostly Austin did it. After the second game, Devan gave up. I know he is not interested in that, but he can't say no to her. Her puppy eyes are the best. She gets everything she wants with them. That's what I call a good kid. After the games, she went to bed. She can't stay up late. - Mom, are you ok? You have been thinking about something. - Yes. - Was it Kylie? - It was. I want her to feel good at home, but I don't know if she trusts me. I tried everything to make her do it. Am I that bad? - No, mom. You're not. Some people need more time to accept what has happened and to move on. - I know, but I wish she has been here. - That will happen as well. You need to trust her. Also, you did many things for her. This will prove to her that you aren't like the rest of the families. I mean, you don't treat her horribly. - When did you grow up so much? - You taught me everything. - At least I did something right. It's better than nothing. - You never make mistakes. - Oh, I do make. Maybe not often, but I do. After all, I am a person as well. - Soon, she will be at home. I promise you. - I hope you are right. I want all of you to meet her and give the support she needs - You don't have to worry about this. Everything will be fine. This will be her second home. Mom and I talked for a while. I always have enjoyed our conversations. I feel like I am going in the right direction. I mean, thanks to her. Of course, my dad is helping me as well. I need both of my parents, not only one of them. Maybe I need to spend some time with my dad as well. He does things for Rosie and me. That is what I can do for him. I don't care what we do. As long as we are together, everything will be fine. I walked into my room and got ready to sleep. It's a bit early for me. That's why I will check my social media accounts. Maybe someone has posted something. Well, I don't follow many people. I was about to take my phone when I heard a knock on my door. It was my dad. I believe he wants something from me. - Hey, dad. Can I help you with something? - No, I wanted to check on you. What are you doing? Apart from the obvious. - my dad said, chuckling - I wanted to browse around social media. - Nice. Are you excited about Kylie? - Not the same way as Rosie, but I am. Why? - I am only asking. I have never seen your mom fighting for something so long. - She wants Kylie to come home with her. She will do everything possible to achieve it. - Why do you think I got married to her? I like that she can stand up for herself. Also, she can say what's on her mind without caring what people think about her. - That is what makes her unique and different. - True. I'm glad that she wants to help someone. Not every kid is lucky to have a family. - Let's hope that Kylie will stay here. We are good people. Well, I bet she won't trust us. - Only time will show this. I can't say anything. - You don't have to do it. I know that. Dad and I talked for about an hour. Later, I went to bed. I have the feeling that soon, we'll see Kylie. I have never seen my mom so passionate about something. It's good that she wants to help. Kylie must be a special girl since my mom chose her. Rosie will have a big sister. I don't know if she wanted that, but at least she is happy. That is what should matter the most. Maybe the energy my sister has can help Kylie bring her mood back. I can only imagine what it feels like to lose your parents. That's why I want to do something for her. She deserves to be happy. I hope that she can be at home with us soon.
