Chapter thirteen - New place to call home

2719 Words
Kylie's POV: For the past two weeks, Carla kept visiting me almost every day. She always came with something. Mostly it was food and sweets. At least the girls were getting benefits too. I always share my food with them. I don't want to leave them. One day I have to do it. This woman has done a lot for me. I have no idea why she does it, but I appreciate it. I was thinking about her. Maybe it's time to give her a chance. She deserves it. Hopefully, I won't make a mistake. I don't want to end up the same as the other families. Well, that will be the last time I will go with a new family. If things go wrong, I will never do it again. I will wait until I am twenty-one and will go to my house. I did well in keeping the keys with me. There is a chance that this won't be necessary. If this woman plays her cards well, I might stay with her. She better know what she is doing. Just because she was nice to me doesn't mean I will be easy to get. I will do the same things I did to the other families to see how she would react. Well, I won't break anything unless it's necessary. I'll have a lot of fun there. As I see it, Carla won't get bored of me. I think she would like to keep me. I am good as long as it's not the same way as in the last family. They wanted to keep me as well, but it didn't happen. Maybe this time, I have to be myself. I am a nice person. Well, not when it comes to getting adopted. I need to change the strategy. I'm sure Brenda and Angela have told her what type of person I am. She must know all my tricks. I can always do something unexpected. First, I need to see if this is necessary. After all, I don't want to waste my talent. Well, if even I can call it like that. I hope that with Carla, things will be better. She seems like a woman who will take care of me. Today, Carla will come to take me home. I agreed to go with her and see what would happen. Hopefully, there will be a happy ending. If not, I will never let anyone adopt me ever again. After all, I don't want the same story to repeat. This woman has one chance. She better not misses it. Otherwise, she won't see me again. I can be stubborn if I want to be. Mom noticed this when I was little. Dad always made jokes about it as if it was funny. I woke up and went to get ready for the day. Carla will come soon. I looked up and saw the girls still sleeping. I will wake them up when I go for breakfast. My last minutes here should be with them. I will never find better friends than them. Annie and Nicole understood me completely. They never judged me for a single thing. That's why I love spending time with them so much. When I was done, I shook both of them. My friends didn't get up. - Please, girls. I want to have breakfast with you before I leave. - What? Are you leaving today? - Annie asked and jumped off the bed - Yes, I am. I told you this yesterday. Twice. - I forget about this. Nicole, get your a*s out of bed. - Give me two more minutes. - I will give you something else if you don't wake up. - While you two fight, I will go to eat. - I said - No! We'll come with you. - Annie said and grabbed my hand - Then Nicole needs to get up. I'm hungry. - Please, Nicole. - Ok, ok. Give me five minutes to get ready. One of you will make my bed. - No way. - I will do it. - I said Soon, Nicole was ready, and all of us went for breakfast. During the entire time, Annie kept making theories about my new family. First of all, I will live with them for a while until I decide that I want to do it forever. Also, I don't know these people. I mean, I don't know anything about them. The happily ever after ending that she talks about might never happen. I have to wait and see. After breakfast, the girls and I walked outside. The weather is nice. I won't have classes today. Probably from tomorrow, I will have a new school. I didn't even know there were so many schools in town. Thanks to all these families, I understood this. As we were talking, I saw a shadow in front of me. I looked up to see Carla. I guess it's time for me to go. It's not like I want to leave the girls, but I want to think about myself. - Are you ready? - Carla asked - I am. Let me take my things from my room. - I said and left Last night, I packed everything I needed. Well, I don't have many things anyway. Foster kids are not billionaires. The girls helped me with the bags. I have only two. Later, I walked outside. Brenda and Angela were there with Carla. That's it. My last day here. Well, for now. You never know what might happen. - Ok, girls. I don't want any tears. This is not the end. I will see you soon. - I said - Well, there is good news for your best friends. A family from England wants to adopt both of them. - Brenda said - Really? - Annie asked, excited - Yes. They have tried to have kids for the past ten years, but that never happened. - How old are they? - Nicole asked, and Angela laughed - The woman is thirty-three, and the man is thirty-six. - Nice. - I'm happy for you, girls. - I said and hugged them - I guess that is the end for us. - Annie said, sadly - That's not true. You two have a phone, so it's time to learn how to use it. - We'll do it, for sure. - Nicole said - Ok, girls. Kylie has to go. You can always come to visit her. I would love to have you at home. - Carla said - It will be a bit hard, but we'll do it. - Annie said - Bye, and I'll see you soon. - Bye, Kylie. Have fun. With that, I left with Carla. Maybe this will be the change I need. She is not perfect, but she has done more things for me than anyone else. I appreciate that a lot. I thought we were going to her house, but no. We stopped at a*****e. Both of us walked inside. I have no idea why we are here. - Can I know what we are doing here? - I want you to tell me what your favorite meal is. I'll cook it for dinner tonight. - Really? That's perfect, but I don't have a favorite meal. I eat everything. Well, except for snails and seafood. I love to eat fish, but other food of this type is a no for me. - I said, and Carla laughed - Ok, then. Pick everything you like. I have money in me. - Am I allowed to do that? - Of course. You can't stay hungry. - You are the best. - I said and hugged her - Aww, thank you. Now go. I will meet you at the bread section. Get anything you want. - For sure, I will. I quickly ran to my favorite section. It's the sweet one. Mom and I used to make cookies together. I know the recipe, so I will buy everything I need. When I was done, I went to look for Carla. She took some fresh donuts. I guess they were made a couple of minutes ago. - Do you like donuts? - Yes, I do. These are all the things I like. If it's too much, I will return some of them. - Why? You can get whatever you want. - Thank you. We shopped for a while and later walked home. I helped her with the bags. Later Carla went to take my bags from the foster care center. She showed me my new room. I like her house. It's small and cozy. How a home is decorated says a lot about the people there. I left my things and sat on the bed. Hopefully, this time I will have luck. After some time, I decided to check on Carla. She told me she took a day off to spend it with me. That is nice of her. Usually, I don't get that much attention. It's a bit weird, but I will get used to it. Carla was in the kitchen, taking care of the bags. - Do you need help? - Oh, hey, Kylie. Thanks, but I am almost finished. Can I know what all these things are? - Mom and I used to make cookies. I thought you would like it if we made some. - You want us to do something together? - If you want. - I would love to. Let's eat lunch now. - I won't deny that. - I said, and she laughed During lunch, we kept talking. I have told her some things about me. Brenda and Angela gave her my medical report. I hope she will read it. I don't think there is a family who has read the entire thing, and it's only around five pages. After that, we went to make cookies. I told her the recipe that I knew. Carla was more excited than me. I'm glad that she is happy. Up to now, she has made a good impression. Our treat was done in an hour. Soon, I hear voices. Maybe she has guests. - Hey, mom. Rosie and I are here. - Mom? What? - Oh, hey. You must be Kylie. I am Josh. - the boy said and looked at me with a smile - You have kids? - Yes. I have two beautiful kids. This is my son Josh and my daughter Rosie. - Hi. Can we play? I was waiting for you to come. - the girl said and came up to me - If you have kids, why did you adopt one? I'm sure you can get pregnant again. - True. That is a good question which I will answer you later. - Come with me. I will show you my room. - Rosie, leave Kylie to rest. - Carla said - Ok. I will go to do my homework. - When you finish, I will give you cookies. - Thank you, mommy. - she said and left - I thought you would be with Devan and Austin. - They don't have much time today. I will go to my room. Call me if you need anything. - he said and left as well - Kylie, are you ok? - Yes, I'm fine. Why you never told me you had kids? - Because I was sure you wouldn't come with me. Why will a mother want to adopt? - That's what I want to know. - I had a friend who was in a coma for two months. She has three kids. The big one had to take care of the younger ones. I felt sorry for her. She looked strong, but she wasn't. It was visible. That's why I decided to adopt a girl. I wanted to help someone. I know there are many teenage girls, but I wanted only one. - You couldn't wait until your daughter grows up. - No. I wanted to enjoy it now. - Carla said, chuckling - That's interesting. - Feel free to tell me if you have a problem with my kids. - Thanks. I don't think there will be a need for that. They look nice. Carla went to do some work. That's why I walked into my room. After some time, I decided to see the boy. I will check on his sister later. She will probably want to play with me, and I don't want to do this now. I knocked on the door, and he opened it. - Hey. I hope I'm not bothering you. - No, you're not. Come in. - Thanks. - How are you? I guess my mom didn't tell you about us. - No. I had no idea. - She is a good person. I know that is not something you have to hide. You will understand her. - I do. She told me why she did it. - That's good. - What is your homework? I should probably deal with it soon. - If you come to my school, yes. - I already have changed six. This will be my seventh one. - How will you graduate? - With magic. - I said, and he laughed - I would love to see that. - You don't know what I hide in my sleeve. - True. - Here is a coin for you. - I said and pulled one from my sleeve - You had it there the entire time. - No, I found it on your bed and put it there. - Yeah. It won't be the first time I drop money somewhere. - You need to keep your things. - I know. Mom keeps telling me this. - She is a nice woman. - Watch out. She likes spoiling her kids. That's why Rosie is attached to her like a magnet. - I will remember that. Josh and I talked for a while. I won't lie. He looks cute. That doesn't matter because he probably will be my brother. I can't date him. It will be weird. Later, I went to check on the girl. Rosie was playing with her dolls. I played with her until dinner time. Carla called all of us to sit at the table. Ben was here too. I don't think we have officially met. - Here you go. Now you can eat. - Carla said - I don't want to complain, but why do I have more food than you? - I asked - Because I don't want to eat much. - So we don't need to have the same amount of food. - What? No. - Ok, thanks. - I said and started eating - Mommy, it's delicious. - Rosie said - I'm glad that you like it. - It's not only her. - Josh said and looked at me - Eat as much as you want. I will put you more when it's finished. - Hold on! I can eat unlimited food! - I said - You can eat as much as you want. Why are you asking me this? - Because the last family didn't let me do it. I have to eat the same food as them. Also, to eat the same quantity and at the same time as them. It wasn't that nice. - You can do whatever you want here. If you need something, all you have to do is ask for it. - Thank you. I might like it here. - That's what I hope. The rest of the night I spend with Carla and her family. Her kids are well-behaved. I understood that Rosie has a bedtime hour. I used to have one as well. Mom said I could stop doing it when I was thirteen. It feels nice to be surrounded by people who care about you. If this is their true self, I will happily stay with them. Before I went to bed, I talked with Josh. I better stay away from him. Otherwise, something might happen. That is not something I like. I wouldn't have had a problem if he had been a stranger. The thing is that I don't want to date my future brother. I hope that this time luck will be on my side.
