Chapter fourteen - Meeting my friends

2693 Words
Josh's POV: Kylie finally came home. I was sure my mom would convince her. She has never put so much effort into something. That means she wants it much. I have talked with the girl, but never for long. Let's say that my sister always has plans for her. I'm glad they understand each other so well. She always asks questions. That makes me think about how she got treated by the other families. I'm sure here she will feel better. Mom never does things that people don't like. The other thing is that she might get spoiled. That is something mom often does. That's why Rosie is attached to her. Sometimes, my mom barely leaves her alone. I have no problem with that, but my sister is eleven. She needs to learn how to do things on her own. Also, I am sure Austin will help her. For some reason, he likes doing it. Maybe she will finally stop pranking him, but that is hard to believe. That is their thing. One day, she will grow up and will stop doing it. Hopefully, she won't prank Kylie. That is unnecessary. The other thing is that she doesn't need this. I don't know what happened with her in the other families, but I'm sure it wasn't good. I won't lie. She looks cute. The problem is that she will be my future sister. I can't do anything with her. Well, we can keep talking. It's better than nothing. I'm sure my friends will be bugging her. Austin already has made some theories for when she comes home. I don't know what is wrong with him. Kylie is an ordinary girl. Yes, she might get adopted, but this doesn't make her any different. She is the same as the rest. Well, she looks a bit better. I need to stop talking about her like that. Nothing should happen. Otherwise, things will be complicated. I don't want to mess with this. No one knows that she will be my sister except for my friends. That still doesn't make it better. I hope that we can keep the friendship relations. I don't want things to get complicated. Today is Kylie's first day at her new school. Less than three months left until we have to graduate. She has changed many schools. I don't know if she can graduate like the rest, but I don't think there will be a problem. The teachers in my school are good until you don't make them mad. It's not like some people haven't tried that. Then the whole class did a test. I hope they have learned their lesson. Apart from that, my school is ordinary. I think Kylie will like it. Also, I will be with her if she needs something. I woke up and went to get ready for the day. That takes me around fifteen minutes. When I was ready, I went to check on Rosie. It looks like she got up by herself. At least I don't have to do it. I was about to go for food when I decided to check on Kylie. She is old enough to wake up, but I will check on her. The girl was still sleeping. I will gladly leave her, but I want to have breakfast. I carefully walked up to her. Hopefully, she won't get mad at me. - Kylie. Hey, Kylie. I think you should get up. We'll have breakfast. - Five more minutes. - Ok, but will you come to eat? - Josh? - she said and opened her eyes - Good morning. - What are you doing here? - I came to wake you up. I hope you don't mind. My sister is already up. - No, I don't. Thank you. Give me five minutes, and I will come. - Ok, no problem. I walked downstairs and sat next to Rosie. Dad came as well. Mom was setting the table. I looked up and saw Kylie coming. For a person who woke up five minutes ago, she looks good. I better keep my mouth shut. She looked at the place next to me and sat down. Mom put the food on the table and did the same. - Yay! Peanut butter and jelly. - Rosie said, excited - Kylie, this is for you. - mom said - Why didn't you put her peanut butter sandwich? - my sister asked - Because she is allergic to peanuts. - Really? - I asked - Yes, I am. I have a sharp allergic reaction. Thanks for knowing that. - No problem. Did you break your kneecap? - mom asked - Yes, I did. That happened when I was seven. I was running down the stairs and tripped on the last three ones. How do you know that? I didn't tell you. - It was written in your medical report. - You read that? - Yes, I did. Why? - Because usually, no one reads it. You are the first one. - Well, I need to know if you have some allergies. Are peanuts the only ones? I didn't see anything else. - Yes, for now. I don't have other allergies. - That's good. You can eat now. Going hungry at school is not something I want. - Mom, we'll have lunch there. - I said - Which reminds me of something. Kylie, take this. - What is that? - Your money for food. You can buy whatever you want. They should be enough. - dad said - I can have money! For real? - Yes. You can't stay hungry. - Thanks, but that's a lot of money. - I give my kids the same. It's not much. - If you say so. Thanks. - You're welcome. After breakfast, my mom drove all of us to school. That is her thing. Of course, there was a long hug for Rosie. I noticed how Kylie's mood changed. Maybe she wants that too, or her parents used to do the same. I don't want to ask her about them. Soon, we arrived. Mom gave us a quick hug and left to work. - Are you ready? - I asked - Yes, but can you do me a favor? - Sure. What is it? - Please don't tell anyone that I am adopted. - Ok, but why? - One kid from the foster care center did it in his school. Kids started making fun of him. That's why we don't go to public schools. We had teachers there. I had around five classes a day. - I understand. My friends know about this, but they won't tell anyone. Our mouths are shut. - Thank you. Both with Kylie walked inside. I told her where the principal office was, and she walked in. I went to my locker and saw the boys waiting for me. There was a smirk on Austin's face. I know what he's thinking about, but it will never happen. Kylie might be my future sister, and there's no way that I will date her. - Delete the smirk from your face. What you're thinking will never happen. I can guarantee you. - I said. - I didn't even say a word. I'm glad you know what I'm thinking about now. - So she finally came to your house. - Devan said - Yes, she did. I don't know what my mom has done to her, but she feels good at home. - Maybe here she will feel better. Your mom loves spoiling her kids. - She already started doing this with Kylie. The girl is lucky to be at home. - When can I meet her in person? - Austin asked - As long as you don't do anything to her, I will let you get close. - Are you afraid of me? I should be offended, but you're lucky that I'm not. - Don't be a drama queen. You already have my sister. - Your sister is eleven. I can't do anything with her. - You are already doing way too much. Remember, I don't want you to date her. - Relax. That won't happen. She's way younger than me and not my type. - I bet when she grows up, he will change his mind. - Devan said - Hell no! I won't let this happen. Man, you're my best friend, but it just feels weird. I'm sorry. - It's ok. By the time we graduate, I might find someone. Don't worry. It won't be Kylie. The boys and I talked for a while. Later all of us walk to class. Surprisingly, Kylie was in my class. Devan and Austin are together, so I let her sit with me. She might feel awkward, but she will get used to it soon. On the lunch break, all of us went for lunch. I saw Kylie was excited to be able to buy lunch. I don't know what has happened to the previous family, but here things are different. Hopefully, she didn't have to starve before. When she bought her lunch, we went to search for a table. Soon, all of us were sitting and eating. The boys were talking as usual. Kylie was eating peacefully without saying anything. I guess the food is taking her attention. - How are you feeling up to now? I mean, you don't have a full day. - I said - It's ok. The school is not that bad. I never stayed in a school for more than a month, so technically, I don't expect much. - I think you will stay here for longer than you think. - Austin said and looked at me - Dear friend, please don't play with fire. You might get burned. - We'll see, shall we? - If you choose to fight, let me at least get out of here. - Kylie said - Don't worry. They always do this. - Devan said - I wonder how Austin is still single. Some girls like people with his attitude. - If you want, you can be the next. - Austin said - Thanks, but I'll pass. I'm not looking for a boyfriend right now. Maybe you should try with a cheerleader. I bet she will put you in your place. That's what you need. - For a new girl, you are way too open. - Is this that bad? - I never said that. - For a boy, you were talking way too much. - Don't make me fight you, girl. - I would love to see how you do it. - Deal. I hope you won't cry after that. - Me or you? For the rest of the lunch break, Kylie and Austin kept fighting. They understand each other well. When we met Devan, he was acting the same way. After lunch, we walked for the rest of our classes. Austin wanted to sit with Kylie. She immediately agreed. I guess they want to continue to fight. Hopefully, this is in a friendly way. It will be weird for my best friend to date my future sister. Well, if they are happy, I am too. After school, we went to take my sister. Rosie was happy to see Kylie, but mostly she was hyped up about Austin. I think she's planning another prank. I wanted to stop her, but I decided not to do it. That is their thing, and I'll leave them to enjoy. All of us walked home. Kylie went to her room to leave her things. Rosie did the same. I already know what will happen. Well, I'm not going to do anything. I left Devan for a while and went to check on Kylie. I knocked on her door, and she opened it. - Am I disturbing you? - No, I wasn't doing anything. Feel free to come whenever you want. - That's nice. Thank you. - You're welcome. - Devon and I will write our homework together. You can join us if you want. - I would love to do it. Thanks. - We can go if you want. - What about Austin, or you kicked him out? - He's busy with my sister. Please don't ask. - Don't worry. I don't need to know everything that is happening here. - Good for you. Kylie and I walked into the living room. Devan has already started with our homework. Kylie went into the kitchen for a glass of water. Soon I heard weird noises from there. I believe Rosie has done something again. She loves doing things to Austin. I wonder what prank she did this time. My sister needs to invent new things. She can't keep doing the same stuff. Devan and I walked into the kitchen to see what was going on. - Rosie, I will kill you! - Austin shouted - First, you need to catch me! - Rosie replied - You are a little demon. - Thank you for the compliment. - my sister said and ran by me - What is going on here? - Kylie asked - My sister loves pranking Austin. He pretends to be mad, but everybody knows he loves it. - Why would someone love it when people prank him? - Nobody knows, but it's true. - I thought your friend couldn't get any weirder. - You don't know anything about him. - I guess so. - I don't mind watching the kids fighting, but I want to do my homework. - Devan said - This time I agree with your other friend. - Kylie said - Ok, let's go. Kylie, Devan, and I wrote our homework while Austin played with my sister. She will do it as well, but who knows when? Well, the problem is not mine. We finished after about an hour and started with our lessons. Hopefully, my friend will help Rosie with her homework. Otherwise, my mom won't be happy. She might be nice to us. Well, she wants us to do things too. Austin and Rosie walked into her room. I guess the game is over. Soon, our parents came home. Mom started with the dinner, and Kylie wanted to help her. I'm glad they're getting close. Austin finished his homework and helped my sister with hers. I don't know what she makes him do, but he seems to enjoy it. They have a good friendship. It's not like this is something horrible. I'm glad she has friends, but I wish they have been at her age. The thing is that I can't tell her who her friends should be. When dinner was ready, we sat at the table. - Mom, dinner is delicious. - I said - Well, I had some help today. - my mom said with a smile - Kylie, I didn't know you could cook. - Because I can't. I was only doing the simple things. I'm not good at cooking. - Have you ever tried? - No, but it doesn't seem like something I want to do. - Then what will you do after you graduate? - Austin asked - I still haven't decided yet. I would love to go to the foster care center and help Brenda and Angela. - To you understand that you want to work there. - For now, yes. Maybe I'll change my mind. - At least you have a plan. - Yes, I do. For the rest of the night, we kept talking. Rosie wanted to play with Austin again. I don't know what they have been doing. I guess she liked it. I wonder what would happen when he moves to university. My friend won't be able to come home often. Probably she will quickly get used to this. That's what everybody wants. One thing about my sister is that she is attached. Mom spoils her, and that's why she loves her so much. I'm glad they have such a strong relationship. Maybe my mom and Kylie can have the same. She deserves to have a mother. I hope that here she will feel better. Mom knows how to take care of her kids.
