Lyra never felt special. She was a timid wolf from a small pack—unnoticed, unseen, and so easily forgotten. Everything changes on the night her Alpha is murdered before her very eyes.

In an attempt to prevent war, Lyra is coerced into a perilous contract with Alpha Kael of Ironclaw, the strongest, most-feared wolf in the kingdom. Their bond is meant to last only one moon cycle… but the moon has other plans.

As Lyra's latent powers begin to rise and old enemies draw near, she discovers shocking secrets about her past that could destroy both of their worlds. Kael becomes her protector, her shield, and the one man she never expected to trust.

But as lies unfold, and perils mount, one question lingers:

Will their fragile alliance save their packs-or destroy them both?

Chapter 1
Moonlight flickered against the stone walls of the council hall, as two rival packs faced one another; to the left, Emberfang; to the right, Ironclaw. Tension rose. Lyra stood at the very back—small, trembling, clutching her notebook. Just a scribe. Just a shadow that no one noticed. She kept her eyes down… until the torches suddenly blew out. WHOOSH. Dark swallowed the hall. A scream tore through the room. "Assassins!" Chairs crashed, wolves shifted, claws scraped stone. Lyra froze where she stood, heart hammering so hard it felt like it might burst through her chest. “Lyra, get down!” her Alpha, Roran shouted somewhere in the dark. But it was too late. A blade flashed. Steel glinted. Someone lunged through the darkness. Lyra's breath hitched. STAB. The sound was sickening-wet, sharp, final. “Alpha?” Lyra whispered. The torches, suddenly, flared back to life. Roran stumbled toward her, blood spreading across his chest. His big wolf-fur cloak dragged behind him as he fell into her arms. Lyra dropped her notebook, catching him with shaking hands. “Alpha-no, no, no-please,” she cried, her voice breaking. Warm, dark blood seeped into her palms. Ironclaw warriors roared on the other side. Emberfang shouted back. "It was Ironclaw!" someone screamed. “Look at the symbol on the blade!” “They killed our Alpha!” Lyra continued to stare at the dagger still lodged in Roran's chest. The insignia of Ironclaw glowed on its hilt. Her stomach twisted. That wasn’t possible. Ironclaw came to negotiate peace. They wouldn't- Roran's fingers twitched weakly against her wrist. His eyes met hers—wide, confused, afraid. “Lyra… don’t let them… destroy…” His breathing faltered. “…everything.” Then his hand fell. Lyra felt the world c***k in half. Her vision blurred; her legs shook so violently she thought she'd collapse. “No!” she sobbed, cradling him. “Alpha Roran—please!” Around her chaos exploded. Emberfang warriors shifted, snarling. The ironclaw wolves snapped back, ready for blood. The growls echoed, claws scraping as both sides prepared for war. "Enough!" boomed a deep voice. Lyra flinched. Everyone turned. Alpha Kael Ironclaw stepped forward, towering, broad-shouldered, eyes aglow like molten amber. He radiated power so intense the air seemed to bend around him. “We didn't do this,” Kael growled. “That blade was planted.” The emberfang wolves snarled louder. “Lies!” “You killed our Alpha!” “We end this tonight!” With both sides ready to attack, the hall began to shake. Lyra's throat tightened. This wasn’t right. Roran died trying to stop a war—and now they were about to tear each other apart. She was unable to breathe, unable to think, her hands drenched in blood. Her voice barely worked. But then another. "Stop…" she whispered, too softly for anyone to hear. Chaos swallowed her voice. “Please…” Lyra tried again, shaking so hard her teeth rattled. “Stop!” Still nothing. Her fear spiked so sharply that it pushed through her paralysis. She shoved herself between the two packs, almost stumbling, her small frame dwarfed by massive wolves. “STOP!” Her scream pierced the hall. Both froze. All eyes fell upon her: the quiet girl who never said a word, standing with bloodstains on her hands and her clothes, breathing unsteadily, eyes wide with terror. She swallowed hard, voice shaking. “There must be… another way.” Emberfang wolves stared at her like she'd lost her mind. Ironclaw wolves appeared shocked. Narrowing his eyes, Kael watched her differently now. She didn’t look strong. She didn't look brave. But she stood there, even though her whole body was trembling like a leaf. For a moment, the world held its breath. Then—BOOM. A column of blinding silver light burst through the ceiling and slammed into the floor between the packs. Lyra gasped as the hall shook violently. Wolves stumbled backward, shielding their eyes. The glow faded. And standing there— Cloaked in white, with eyes afire with moonlight—were the Moon Council. The highest authority. The law. The judge. The head elder stepped forward; his voice echoed like distant thunder. "Blood has fallen tonight. But war will not be allowed." His gaze fell upon Lyra—still kneeling over Roran’s body, still shaking, still covered in blood. Then he spoke the words that would destroy her life forever. "To avoid war, an Emberfang she-wolf shall be bound to Alpha Kael Ironclaw for one moon cycle. A contract of allegiance. A contract of peace." Lyra's breath vanished. The hall fell silent. “We have chosen the she-wolf,” the elder continued, “Lyra Emberfang.” Lyra's heart stopped. Kael’s eyes snapped to her, intense, unreadable, burning. Her fate was sealed. "Bring her forward," the elder ordered. "The contract begins tonight." Lyra’s POV Screams still shook the hall when Lyra felt the warmth leave Alpha Roran's body. Her hands were covered in his blood. Her breaths came in short, hard gasps. She couldn't move. Couldn't think. The world blurred around her-shouts, growls, the heavy thud of boots, the crackle of torches-everything sounded distant. “Lyra, step away from him,” someone whispered behind her. She didn't. She couldn't. Still kneeling, she clutched Roran's lifeless hand, as if holding him more tightly would revive him. Her Alpha, her leader, the only one who ever told her she had value. Gone. Across the hall, the Ironclaw wolves were surrounded by Emberfang warriors, teeth bared, claws half-shifted, and ready for war. And then— In stormed the Moon Council guards. "Enough!" shouted Elder Varyn, his voice reverberating through stone walls. "No more blood shall be spilled. Lyra slowly lifted her head. Her vision cleared just enough to make out Elder Malric standing beside Varyn, a strange smile tugging at his lips. His eyes swept the chaos, and when they landed on her… they gleamed. He seemed pleased. A chill ran through her. “We have investigated this conflict enough,” said Varyn. “If war starts tonight, then thousands will die. We cannot let that happen.” Kael Ironclaw stood a short distance away, tall and silent, blood spattered across his jaw. His expression was unreadable, but his amber eyes kept drifting back to Lyra—watching her, studying her, almost…curious. Varyn continued, “To stop this war, a binding alliance must be made.” The room fell silent. "A she-wolf from Emberfang shall be bound to Alpha Kael of Ironclaw for one moon cycle. During this time, both packs will remain under Council peace." Gasps erupted. Shouts followed. “Never!” “It’s a trap!” “You can’t force this!” Lyra's heart hammered. She wiped Roran's blood from her hands, still shaking. She didn't understand. Why her pack? Why Kael? Why tonight? Then Elder Malric stepped forward, raising a quieting hand. “We have chosen the she-wolf.” His finger lifted. And pointed straight at her.
