The Odd Mate

Chapter 1

    "Ivy." I heard my dad yell for me from downstairs.

    "Coming." I said getting up from my bed.

    I dash to my bathroom to quickly do my business and freshen up. I walk out of my bathroom then quickly to my closet grabbing my purple tank top, skinny jeans, leather vest, bra and boots. I walks over to  my bed and set my outfit on to my bed. I quickly strip off my pj's and tossing them into the hamper than change into my outfit.

    I grabbed my phone and book bag on my way out of my room. As I reached the top of the stairs to head towards the kitchen I could smell bacon, eggs, biscuits, fruit and fresh squeezed orange juice. 

    Thank you heightened sense for allowing me to smell such an amazing breakfast, I said to myself as I felt my wolf Lulu nod in agreement. 

    I reached the kitchen entryway and enter into the kitchen to see my dad making breakfast as he usually does. I walked to the cabinet to grab a glass then I go to the dinning table to pour myself a glass of orange juice. As I get to the table I notice my mom reading a book and my younger brother Aster playing on his phone as usual.

    "Morning mom and dad. Morning Aster." I said as I finished pouring myself orange juice.

    "Morning sweetie. How are you this morning?" my mom asked setting her book aside to look at me and grab her cup of coffee.

    "I am alright." I answer with a raised eyebrow holding my glass to my mouth to take a sip.

    Aster didn't really say anything as he is so locked on whatever game he is playing on his phone.

    "Aster phone way while at the table." my father said as he brought plates piled with bacon, eggs, biscuits and a bowl of fruit to the table.

    "Yes father." Aster said with a grumble as he puts his phone way.

    "Foods looks yummy as always daddy." I said eyeing the food, yes I am a daddy's girl even if I am the oldest and only daughter.

    "I do my best princess. Oh before I forget. Alpha John and his family are coming over tonight and staying with us for a few nights. He and I have to discuss things about our traity with each other and to finish up the plans for the annual Mate Ball." he said looking to me.

    I groaned as I piled my plate with food, "Do I have to keep going to that stupid ball? Ever since I turned nineteen and have gone to that stupid ball my mate hasn't been there and I feel he/she won't be there."

    Hey we will find our mate, Lulu said to me with bit of an attitude which I just ignored her. 

    "Until you find your mate you must go, same with you Aster as it seems this year the ball lands on your nineteenth birthday." my dad said as he started to put food on his plate. 

    Aster groaned as he also has been dreading the ball. He has watched me come home without my mate which he has always felt bad and hopes I find my mate. Aster and I are close we ust don't show it unless something comes between our family or pack.

    "What about my birthday party this year?" Aster asked looking to our parents.

    When my family turns of age to find our mates we host a BBQ with our whole pack and just to have fun. It does help us see if our mate is within our pack or not.

    "we will have it the day after son. Even if you find your mate at the ball." my mom said as she started to eat.  

    Aster just muttered to himself as we all ate in silence. I finished my food before the others. I grabbed my plate and took it to the kitchen sink. I head back to the dinning table and grab my book bag then head towards the garage.

    "Where do you think you are going young lady." I heard my dad say from the dinning table.

    "Out to my studio to paint maybe draw." I said as I turned to face my dad. 

    "Be back by four that is when Alpha John and his family arrive. I want you and Aster her to welcome them with your mom and I." he said in slight Alpha tone.

    "Yes Alpha." Aster and I said at the same time.

    I walked into the garage grabbing my 2000 Harley Davidson FXSTD Softail Deuce keys. I walk over to my bike taking my helmet off the sit and slide it over my head. As I start the bike I take it off its kickstand. Pushing the garage door opener I wait for the door to open before pulling out a bit. I quickly click the button again before driving off towards my studio in town. Oh did I forget to mention our pack is big enough that we have our own little town. I pull up to my studio and see black 2001 Ford Mustang GT Deluxe parked outside. Smiling as I knew who it belonged to. I parked my bike and turned it off. I put it back on its kickstand before getting off and heading inside my studio. As I walked through the door I heard music playing a bit loud. I shook my head knowing Ronnie my best friend was having artist block. I head over to his area to greet him.

    "Hey Ronnie." I said over the music as I approached him at his wall.

    "Hey Ivy." Ronnie said as he turned the music down.

    "What are you working on?" I asked looking at the mural his been working on. 

    "I have been here all night trying to add this idea that came to me last night but I can't seem to find the right spot for it on the wall. How long you gonna be here for?" He asked as he turned his attention to me.

    "Until about four. Alpha John and his family are coming. Dad wants Aster and i there to welcome them. Dad and Alpha oh have to talk about the treaty and Mate Ball also." I said sound a bit annoyed.

    Oh Ronnie is my best friend and soon to be Beta. His folks are the current Betas.

    "Oh s**t the ball isn't that far away." Ronnie said groaning. "Another year of seeing if our mates show up."

    I nodded as I walked away to my area. I set my bag and helmet down on the desk then grab my phone to set an alarm for fifteen minutes before four. Then I set it on the table and walk over to me painting I am working on. Its Aster's birthday gift from me. Its of his wolf Dex and him half in forest and half in gaming and comic world. Thought it be fun to paint this for him to mix his favorite things in the world together. Aster's birthday is two weeks away but also means the ball is in two weeks. I shake my head from that thought and grab my over sized shirt putting it on to get back to painting. I also put my hair up to keep it from getting into my face as I paint.   

                                                                        ~5 hours later~

    I hear my alarm going off as I am in the middle of touching up the moon in the forest and I groan. I put the paint brush down as I turn the alarm off. I take my shirt off then grab my stuff. I shouted out to Ronnie telling him I will text him later. I get to my bike and put my helmet on. Then I take my bike off the kickstand and start it up after getting on it. I speed off towards home to be on time. As I got to my house I just parked my bike outside the garage. I quickly turn it off and put it on the kickstand. Once done I pull my helmet off and hang it on the handle bar before getting off and dashing towards the front door. As I enter the house I look at the clock on the wall and see I have six minutes until four. I had made it in enough time.

    "Nice timing Ivy." my dad said seeing me standing in the front hallway.
