Chapter 4: Katrina

278 Words
“I’ve heard stories about this place, and about this castle,” Katrina spoke first as Lucius grunted he wasn’t really interested. “It said that Cristina planted the apple tree in honor of Hugo, so why didn’t she name their son Hugo? Instead of Marcus?”      “You know what Cristina did, and why she did it, doesn’t concern me.”      “Oh come on brighten up, you are about to see the Ashen Fields, isn’t that what you Protectors should be interested in? You do need to serve in the Ashen Fields once in your lifetime right?”      “How would you know that?” Lucius asked her.      “Well, my brother is serving there now, and my father wanted me to become a Protector as well, but you could imagine my mother losing her mind over that decision. What about you? How did you become a Protector?”      “Is this what it’s going to be like?” he asked.      “Like what?” she asked.        “Are you going to talk all the way?”      “Ugh… Excuse me! Would you have me rather not talk? And be weird throughout this whole thing?”      “Yeah I guess you are right,” Lucius looked at the ground and kept moving forward. “So you said your mother didn’t approve of you serving with the Protectors, yet here you are with one,” he looked at her.      “You know what my mother does it’s her own thing, and it doesn’t concern me,” she looked back at him.      “Fair enough,” he nodded.        “I am just messing with you!” she laughed.
