chapter2
Class was finally over. I packed up my stuff and started heading toward the door—
until someone yanked my backpack from behind.
I turned around and found Nova standing right in front of me, looking suspiciously excited.
— "Let’s go welcome him!"
My eyes widened.
— "Are you serious? Cut it out, clown. Let’s just go home, we’ve got a ton of stuff to unpack."
— "It’ll take like, half a second! Just a quick welcome!"
I stared at her, trying to spot even a hint of sarcasm. Nothing.
Dead serious.
She’d officially lost it.
I pressed my hand to her forehead.
— "You feel warm. You talking crazy too... Is this a love fever?"
She raised an eyebrow.
— "Nope. Not in love. But I kinda like him."
Hold up—Nova? Talking about a guy?
That was rare. We never really cared much about boys.
Sure, we joked around sometimes, but this was... different. She was serious.
— "So we just walk up to him and say 'hi, welcome'? Like total weirdos?"
She blinked.
— "Okay... when you say it like that, yeah. Kinda does sound dumb."
Her lips pouted dramatically.
— "Then what am I supposed to do? How do I even start a convo?"
I burst out laughing.
— "Girl, your flirting game is tragic. Come on, let’s go home. I’ll think of something for you."
As we were leaving, I snuck a glance at the guy she was talking about.
He was chatting with another student. And yeah, I’ll admit—he was cute.
Tall, tanned skin, curly brown hair… not bad at all.
Since we had no more classes that day, we went straight home and tidied up our place a bit.
By 8 p.m., we were finally done. I collapsed on the couch, half-dead.
— "Just so you know, I’m not cleaning this house again until graduation."
I grabbed my phone.
— "What do you wanna eat?"
— "Spicy sandwich."
I ordered the food, then frowned.
— "Ugh, no delivery. Wanna go pick it up?"
— "Zero energy. Leave me here to rot."
— "Oh, shut it. It’s just around the corner. Get up, we’re going."
I dragged her out the door. And of course, she complained the whole walk:
— "Ughhh, I hope it tastes like cardboard. Why don’t they have delivery?! Shut the whole restaurant down. I’m tired. I’m dying. Bury me here..."
— "Shut up, monkey! We’re here."
I pointed at a table.
— "Sit. I’ll be right back."
I went to grab the food and came back. My head was down, double-checking my sandwich for any tomatoes. (I hate those sneaky red devils.)
As I reached the table, I muttered:
— "Here, madam monkey. Eat and stop nagging or I’m gonna—"
Nova suddenly shouted:
— "Oh hey, Janan sweetie! You made it!"
She pulled me toward her and pinched me playfully.
I gave her a look like, what the hell are you doing? Then I looked up...
Nova’s crush was standing right in front of us—with another guy.
The second guy’s mouth was slightly open like he’d been mid-sentence when I barged in.
He was staring at me.
— "Uh… since you introduced yourself, let me introduce myself too."
He held out his hand.
— "Shayan Mostoufi. Your classmate."
I shook his hand.
— "Nice to meet you."
He gestured to the other guy.
— "This is my brother, Shahan."
I gave a small nod. Shahan gave me a slow, uninterested once-over. Then turned to his brother:
— "Let’s go?"
(Rude. Didn’t even say hi.)
Shayan nodded politely.
— "We’d love to stay and chat more, but unfortunately we have to go."
I stared at Shahan and gave him the same head-to-toe look he gave me.
— "Yeah. I can see you’re in a rush."
They said goodbye—
Well, Shayan did. Shahan just walked off like a statue on a mission.
As soon as they left, I hissed:
— "What’s his deal? Shahan’s a total jerk! No hi, no bye, no manners. Who does he think he is—"
Nova shot me a look.
I shut up.
— "You’re worse than him, babe. You literally dropped your head and started spitting out whatever came to your mouth. A little class wouldn’t hurt, you know."
— "Oh shut up! You were cussing out the whole world ten minutes ago!"
She raised an eyebrow and smirked.
— "Touché. Anyway, forget that—Shahan was kinda hot though."
I flopped onto the chair and grabbed my sandwich.
— "Who even are you anymore? I thought you were into Shayan?"
