Seren -
Seren’s eyes sprung open, she sat up quickly in a foreign room. The last thing she remembered was looking into that creature’s eyes as it spoke. She sat for a moment clutching the blanket before looking at her surroundings.
The bedroom was immaculate. The wallpaper was navy with lines of flowers to the border. A dark wooden border and panelling met the wooden flooring.
The bed was metal framed, silver. The most comfortable thing she had slept on, compared to a wooden second hand one anything would have been.
The duvet was white, and she was buried in a sea of decorative pillows. The wardrobes across the room were regal, with intricate patterns. A mirror in the centre where she saw her reflection.
“Goddess I look terrible” she muttered, pulling a leaf from what could only be described as a bird nest that was her hair. Her face covered in blood from.. “vampire” she whispered, her eyes widening.
She jumped from the bed quickly, “the vampire!” She exclaimed, hurrying to the door. As she swung it open, she realised it was on en-suite. Feeling disappointed and embarrassed of herself at this moment, she turned for the next door.
As she closed the en-suite, the main door opened. There he stood, staring down to her, his presence was overwhelming.
“Making yourself at home?” He asked, with a smirk across his face. “There are towels for you to get cleaned up”
Seren frowned, her jaw dropped. All she could feel in that split second was rage. “You know what! You are arrogant, you are rude! You are smug-“ she began to rant.
Vlad stepped into the room towards her, “is that so?” He asked, his face expressionless. Seren swallowed and breathed deeply as he approached.
“I-i” she stuttered, struggling to find her words again.
“I’m all ears if you’re not finished” he made her feel weak and tiny. His scent hitting her nose all over again as he towered over her. She stepped backwards, bumping into the night stand.
He leant right over her, his face inches from hers “if it wasn’t for me, you’d be dead right now” he growled. “So I may be arrogant, but at least you’re alive Miss Nava”
She could feel her face turning red, like a child who had just been scalded for being naughty.
Vlad turned on his heels and marched out of the door, slamming it behind him. Seren couldn’t help but flinch, sitting onto the bed.
“Goddess” she sighed.
Vlad -
Vlad marched back down the stairs into the living room, he was furious at her name calling. After he had rescued her and given her a room to sleep in.
“That girl is impossible” he grumbled, receiving his freshly made coffee from Helga.
“Did you apologise?” She asked, with what sounded like mockery.
“Apologise? She chewed me out as soon as I got there. She called me arrogant!” He hissed, making himself comfortable on the sofa.
Helga sat beside him, she was always honest with her opinion, she never hid how she felt as she couldn’t portray it with expressions.
“Well” she began, Vlad’s eyes widened as he turned to her. “You weren’t the nicest person when she asked for your help before”
Vlad jumped in his seat, turning to face her, “I saved her life!”
“Yes, but you also made her feel terrible. Regardless of whether you saved her or not, you still need to apologise for your behaviour” if Helga could roll her eyes, he was sure she would have. She stood and took her leave as he sat there, speechless.
Seren -
Seren decided to take Vlad up on his statement, and showered. The bathroom was tiled with what looked like marble. A big shower cubicle stood on one wall, and the other was a bath tub. Probably the biggest she had seen!
A spare unopened tooth brush, tooth paste, comb and soap were left on the sink, so she took advantage of them.
Stepping into the shower, the hot water hit her skin. Soothing her body and emotions. Seren was one for thinking while in the shower, gathering her thoughts and problem solving. She ran her hair under the waterfall, feeling the twigs and leaves falling.
“Miss Nava?” She heard Helga call her. Making her twitch slightly. “I have left you some clothing on the bed when you have finished. I apologise, they do belong to Sir Hansen” she explained.
The bedroom door click after, “oh in his study?” She mocked, rolling her eyes as she rinsed off the remaining soap.
She made her way out of the bathroom with the towel wrapped tightly around her. Inspecting the clothes Helga had delivered.
A hoodie which was oversized on her and a pair of cycling shorts, with some black mid shin socks.
The study -
Seren raised her hand to knock at the study door, directed by Helga. “come in” Vlad beat her to it. She rolled her eyes again and pushed the door open. Walking into book cases, upon book cases. A desk in the centre with a high backed chair and two chairs before the desk.
Vlad stood at one of the book cases, flicking through a large red covered book, before gesturing for her to take a seat.
As she sat, he slowly made his way back over to the desk. Not lifting his eyes from the book, and placing it on his desk.
“What coven?” He asked, straight to the point.
“Pardon?” Seren asked in return, frowning at his vagueness.
He sighed, looking up at her, “what coven are you from?” He sounded impatient.
“Night Fall, sir” she replied, hating how he looked at her. “It wasn’t a big coven”
“That’s enough” he replied, looking back to the book.
Seren scanned around the room at all the books, wondering if he ever actually read them. A fireplace against one of the walls roared, reminding her of home. She sniffled, before returning back to Vlad, who was staring once again.
He frowned, his eyes narrowed as he leant back in the chair. “Tell me about the attack”
She sat uncomfortably, fidgeting as she began to speak. “They came from nowhere.. I was in the garden when I heard their cries”
Flashback -
Seren stood in the gardens, tending to the flowers and the vegetables they’d grown recently. She watched and smiled as a butterfly fluttered past her, it made her think about how wonderful her life was in that moment.
She continued her gardening, watering and pruning the plants, making sure no weed was left behind. She put the ripe fruits into a basket, proud of what she had achieved. Magic may have helped her slightly, but the rest was her doing.
She stood, holding the basket into her torso, ready to show her family. As she turned to their home, she saw flames. Crackles and popping of the glass windows. She stood in horror, as the roof slowly caved in on itself.
“No, no!” She gasped, dropping the basket and running to the house. “No!”
She began looking for a water source, anything to put out the fire. Her chosen parents weren’t home, luckily. She found the hose pipe and quickly ran to turn it on at the wall.
“Seren!” She heard beside her, her mother covered in blood. Her eyes widened as she dropped the hose pipe.
