Chapter 6: Trial by Moonlight The courtyard burned with anticipation. Wolves lined the circle, their eyes gleaming in the lantern light. Isabella stood at its center, her breath shallow, her hands trembling. Lucian’s presence beside her was steady, commanding, but she felt the weight of every stare. Isabella (to herself): “They want to see me fail and break why do they hate me.” --- The Beta wolf stepped forward, his tone sharp. Beta Wolf: “If she is to stand among us, she must prove herself. Let her face me.” Gasps rippled through the pack. Isabella’s heart lurched. Isabella: “Face you? I don’t even know how to shift.” Lucian (firmly): “You don’t need to shift. You need to trust your instincts.” --- Before the challenge could begin, another figure emerged from the shadows. A striking she‑wolf with raven hair and eyes that gleamed with venom. Her smile was sharp, her presence commanding. Selene: “So this is the enigma. The one who thinks she can stand beside our Alpha.” Lucian’s jaw tightened. Lucian: “Enough, Selene.” Isabella’s breath caught. The woman’s gaze was predatory, filled with obsession. Selene (mocking): “You don’t belong here You’re a weak human And you dare to threaten my place?” --- The pack murmured. Isabella’s chest tightened. Isabella: “I don’t want your place. I don’t even know what I am.” Selene (snarling): “Lies. You want to be Luna. You want to take what is mine.” Her voice dripped with madness. She stepped closer, circling Isabella like prey. Selene: “I have waited years for Lucian. I have bled for this pack. And now you—an outsider, a broken girl—think you can claim him?” --- Lucian growled, his voice thunderous. Lucian: “Selene, stop.” Selene (defiant): “No,I wont.” Before Isabella could react, Selene struck. Her claws raked across Isabella’s arm, sharp pain searing through her skin. Isabella cried out, stumbling back. Isabella (gasping): “Why… why are you doing this?” Selene (coldly): “Because you are nothing. And I will prove it.” --- The pack watched in silence, torn between fear and fascination. Isabella’s wolf stirred inside her, clawing to be free. Her vision flickered gold, her breath deepened. Isabella (growling): “I’m not prey.” Selene laughed, cruel and mocking. Selene: “Then fight me, little enigma. Show us your power—or die proving you have none.” --- Lucian moved to intervene, but Isabella raised a trembling hand. Isabella: “No. Let me.” Her voice was raw, but her eyes glowed. The wolf inside her surged, desperate to break free. Selene lunged again, claws flashing. Isabella blocked her strike, strength flooding her limbs. Gasps filled the courtyard. Pack Member: “She stopped Selene.” Another: “She’s shifting… but not fully.” Third: “This is like in the stories...an enigma.” --- Selene snarled, her obsession burning. Selene: “You will never be Luna. I will tear the wolf from you before you take what is mine.” Isabella’s growl deepened, her claws lengthening. She shoved Selene back, her voice guttural. Isabella: “What makes you think I want the crown.” Isabella strikes hard enough to make selene bow... --- The fight ended with Selene retreating, her pride wounded, her obsession unresolved. The pack murmured, shaken by Isabella’s defiance. Lucian proud, his voice carrying authority. Lucian: “A true Lunar that is fated to stand beside me” Selene’s eyes burned with hatred, but she bowed her head, whispering: Selene: “This isn’t over.” --- That night, Isabella lay awake, her arm bandaged, her body aching. But her mind was sharper than ever. She had faced Selene’s cruelty and survived. She had felt her wolf stir, stronger than before. Isabella (to herself): “She thinks I’m a threat. Maybe I am. Not to Lucian. But to her obsession.” Her dreams returned—forests, golden eyes, whispers of destiny. And in the shadows of those dreams, Selene’s laughter echoed, promising torment yet to come.
