THE VOW BENEATH THE BLOOD MOON

For twenty years, the Kingdom of Valoria and the powerful House of Veyne have been bound by hatred.

A m******e left both families broken, and since that night, each side has blamed the other. Princess Elara Valen was raised on one truth: the Veyne family murdered the people she loved, and one day, she will make them pay.

Then she meets a mysterious stranger beneath a blood-red moon.

Darian Veyne is the heir to the very family she has sworn to destroy.

Neither knows the other's identity when they first meet. But what begins as a chance encounter soon becomes an attraction neither can resist. Darian knows he should walk away from her. Elara knows she should never trust him.

Yet every secret conversation draws them closer.

Every stolen moment makes their separation harder.

And before either of them discovers the truth, they make a vow beneath the blood moon—a promise to find each other again, no matter what stands between them.

Then the truth is revealed.

Elara is the last surviving heir of Valoria.

Darian is the son of the man she has been taught to hate.

Their love is forbidden.

Their families would rather start another war than allow them to be together.

But when mysterious murders begin striking both sides, Elara and Darian discover that the m******e that created their families' hatred may have been built upon a lie.

Someone deliberately turned two families against each other.

Someone has been manipulating the kingdoms from the shadows for decades.

And someone is terrified that Elara and Darian will uncover the truth.

When Darian suddenly betrays Elara and disappears into enemy territory, she believes the man she loves has chosen his family over her. What she doesn't know is that his betrayal is part of a dangerous plan to keep her alive.

Because their forbidden love is connected to an ancient vow made beneath a blood moon generations ago.

A vow that binds their bloodlines together.

A vow that says their descendants will one day reunite the kingdoms—or destroy them both.

Now war is approaching, their enemies are closing in, and the people responsible for the original bloodshed are willing to kill anyone who discovers the truth.

Elara must choose between the revenge she has spent her entire life preparing for and the man she was never supposed to love.

Darian must decide whether to protect the family name that raised him or destroy everything he inherited to save the woman who has become his greatest weakness.

But the deeper they uncover the past, the more terrifying the truth becomes.

Their meeting was not an accident.

Their love was not a coincidence.

And the vow they made beneath the blood moon may have been waiting for them all along.

Because some loves are forbidden by families.

Some are forbidden by kingdoms.

And some are forbidden by fate itself.

THE STRANGER
Chapter OneThe Stranger in the ForestThe first thing Princess Elara Valen learned about hatred was that it could be inherited. She had been told the story so many times that she could remember it before she could remember her own childhood.Twenty years ago, House Veyne had come for her family. They had burned the eastern villages of Valoria, slaughtered innocent people, and left the royal family broken. Elara's mother had died. Her older brother had disappeared. Her father had never truly recovered. And the Veynes had walked away victorious. At least, that was the story Elara had always known. She had grown up with their name spoken like a curse.Veyne.The very sound of it made her blood burn.Yet on the morning everything began to change, Elara had no idea that she was about to meet the man who carried that name. She rode alone through the northern forest, her dark cloak pulled tightly around her shoulders as the cold wind moved through the trees. She wasn't supposed to be there.Princesses were not supposed to disappear from the palace before sunrise. They were certainly not supposed to ride into dangerous territory without guards. But Elara had never been particularly good at following rules. She needed space. The palace had become unbearable. For weeks, every conversation had been about alliances, political arrangements, and her future. Her father wanted her to marry Prince Adrian of Archen. The prince was respectable, powerful, and apparently perfect.Elara hated him already. Not because he had done anything wrong. She simply hated the idea of being told whom she was supposed to love. She had spent twenty years being told what to believe. She wasn't going to spend the rest of her life being told what to feel.So she had taken her horse and left. The forest was quiet except for the sound of hooves against the damp earth.Elara slowed when she reached a small clearing. She had come here many times as a child. It was one of the few places where she felt like she could breathe. She dismounted and walked toward the river running through the trees. For a moment, she closed her eyes.No servants. No guards. No council members. No marriage proposals. No expectations.Just silence. Then she heard something.A branch breaking behind her.Elara's eyes opened. She turned slowly.A man stood on the other side of the clearing. He was tall, dressed entirely in black, with dark hair that had been slightly disturbed by the wind. A sword hung at his side, and his expression was unreadable. He looked like someone who didn't belong in a peaceful forest.Elara immediately reached for the small dagger hidden beneath her cloak. The stranger noticed.Instead of reaching for his sword, he raised one eyebrow."Planning to kill me?"His voice was calm.Almost amused.Elara tightened her grip on the dagger."I haven't decided yet."The corner of his mouth lifted."Then I suppose I should be careful.""You should."He studied her for several seconds. There was something strange about his gaze.He wasn't looking at her like a frightened stranger. He was trying to understand her.Elara didn't like it."Who are you?"The man took a few steps closer."Who are you?""I asked first.""And I answered first.""You didn't answer anything.""Exactly."Elara narrowed her eyes.He was irritating.Very irritating. And yet, despite herself, she almost smiled.Almost."You always speak in riddles?""Only when I'm talking to suspicious women holding knives.""Maybe you're suspicious.""Maybe."The answer caught her off guard. Most people would have defended themselves. He simply accepted it.She lowered the dagger slightly but didn't put it away. The stranger looked toward her horse."You're traveling alone?""Does it matter?""It might.""Why?""Because this part of the forest isn't safe."Elara glanced around."I've been here before.""That doesn't make it safe.""Are you always this annoying?""Only when someone refuses to listen."She stared at him.He stared back. For some reason, neither of them looked away. There was something about him that unsettled her.Not fear.Something else.Something she couldn't name. Then the sound of horses echoed in the distance. The stranger's expression changed instantly. His amusement disappeared."How many guards did you bring?""None.""You're lying.""I'm not."He looked toward the trees."Then we're both in trouble."Elara's hand returned to her dagger."Who is coming?""I don't know."That was the first time she noticed the tension in his shoulders. He wasn't afraid. But he was alert.Ready.The horses grew louder. The stranger stepped toward her."We need to leave."Elara didn't move."Why should I trust you?""You shouldn't."His answer surprised her.He held out his hand."That's why you should come with me."Elara looked at his hand. Then at him."You make absolutely no sense.""I've been told that before."The riders entered the clearing.Three men.Armed.Elara immediately recognized the colors on their cloaks. Not Valorian. Her heart tightened. The stranger drew his sword.Elara stared at him."Who are they?""Trouble.""That's not an answer.""It will have to do."One of the riders shouted."There!"The stranger moved before Elara could react. He stepped in front of her.The first attacker charged.Steel collided with steel. The sound echoed through the forest.Elara backed away, her heart pounding. The stranger fought with terrifying precision.Every movement was controlled.Every strike deliberate.Within moments, the first man was on the ground. The other two attacked together.Elara realized then that the stranger wasn't simply skilled. He was trained.Highly trained. And there was something familiar about the way he fought.Something she had seen before. But she couldn't remember where. One of the attackers broke away and moved toward her.Elara pulled her dagger. The man raised his sword. Before he could reach her, the stranger appeared between them. The attacker's blade struck his shoulder.Elara gasped. The stranger staggered.Blood began spreading across his black coat."You've been wounded."He glanced at the blood."It's nothing.""You're bleeding.""I noticed.""You could die."He looked at her."For some reason, you sound concerned.""I'm not.""Of course."Elara rolled her eyes.Even injured, he was insufferable. The remaining attackers fled when they realized they couldn't win.The forest became quiet again. The stranger sheathed his sword. Then he looked at Elara."You should go."She stared at the blood on his shoulder."You need to treat that.""I'll survive.""That wasn't what I said."He gave her a curious look."You always argue with strangers?""Only arrogant ones.""And you've already decided I'm arrogant?""You've given me enough evidence."He laughed quietly. It was the first genuine emotion she had seen on his face. And for some reason, the sound made something inside her shift.Elara looked away."What's your name?"He hesitated. For the first time, the stranger seemed uncertain."Darian."Just Darian.Elara nodded."Elara."He repeated her name softly."Elara."Something about the way he said it made her heart beat faster. She immediately dismissed the feeling."Well, Darian, you should get that wound treated.""You should return home.""I don't like being told what to do.""I noticed."She mounted her horse. Before she rode away, she looked back at him.He was standing beneath the trees, one hand pressed against his injured shoulder. There was something about him she couldn't explain.Something that made leaving feel strangely difficult."Will I see you again?" she asked before she could stop herself.Darian looked at her."I don't know."Then he smiled faintly."But I wouldn't mind if I did."Elara's heart skipped. She quickly turned her horse around. She didn't know who Darian was.She didn't know where he came from. She didn't know why he had appeared in the forest that morning. And she certainly didn't know that the man she had just met belonged to the family she had spent her entire life hating.Darian Veyne watched her disappear between the trees. He should have forgotten her.He should have returned home and continued preparing for the responsibilities waiting for him.Instead, he stood there thinking about her eyes. Her courage. Her stubbornness. And the strange feeling that meeting her had not been an accident.Neither of them knew it yet.But their meeting in that forest would become the beginning of a story that would shake two kingdoms.Because sometimes fate does not introduce enemies with swords drawn.Sometimes it introduces them with a single glance. And sometimes the person you were raised to hate becomes the person you would risk everything to love.
