Chapter 6

Amber’s POV

My gaze fell on Liam, my mate who was standing at the door staring at me with tears in his brown eyes.

His tears clenched my heart in pain and agony as I watched him with my own tear filled eyes.

I saw him inhaling a sharp breath before he started taking slow steps in my direction. He looks exhausted.

In few seconds he was standing in front of me. His eyes roamed all over my body, probably to check if I have any injury or have hurt myself.

I saw the pain flashing in those brown orbs when they fell on my right palm which was still not healed as Amelia hasn’t returned yet.

He lifted his eyes- which were asking for an apology it seemed like- to stare into my teary ones as he asked in his broken voice,

“Are you okay?”

I couldn’t control myself anymore and broke into the fit of sobs.

He took another step towards me and lifted his hand to reach and touch my face. I waited with bated breath, wanting to lean into his warm touch.

But suddenly he stopped moving when his eyes averted from my face to stare at someone behind me.

My breath hitched and my body stiffened when an arm circled around my waist from behind me.

I felt a warm breath fanning my ear when he rested his chin over my shoulder.

“I don’t have a full day my wife, so get done with it already”.

He whispered in my ear but the way Liam’s eyes widened hearing his words, I knew he heard him.

‘These darn wolf ears’.

He stared at me and Christopher with those wide eyes not being able to believe what he just heard.

Soon the shock in Liam’s eyes got replaced by anger. He took another step towards us and pushed Christopher away from me.

“Who are you calling your wife, you bastard? She is my mate” he growled.

My heartbeat increased seeing his actions and the anger in his eyes.

I know he is an alpha blood. I also know that werewolves are possessive creatures. Especially the Alpha blood wolves can’t tolerate anyone touching anything that belongs to them.

And touching their mates in front of their eyes is the worst thing you can do to make them angry.

That is why Liam is reacting this way. But still he shouldn’t lose his temper in front of Christopher.

I don’t want Liam to make someone like Alpha Christopher his enemy. It might result in the destruction of entire Blue moon pack.

I shifted my fearful gaze towards Christopher, to check if Liam’s words made him angry.

Luckily he didn’t look angry at all. In fact he looked like he was enjoying this situation very much.

“Who do you think I would call my wife among the people present in the room?” he asked with raised brow.

“You bastard…” Liam again lunged at Christopher. My heart dropped in the pit of my stomach when I saw claws of Christopher’s right hand coming out.

My insides filled with an unimaginable fear when image of what happened yesterday with Drake came to my mind.

Without thinking about anything I stormed in their direction and stood in between them, facing Liam.

He instantly stopped and his clawed hand with which he was about to attack Alpha Christopher, stopped just an inch away from my face.

“What the f**k are you doing Amber?” he shouted through his uneven breaths. His widened eyes show that he didn’t expect me to come between them like this.

But I can’t just let him do something which will put his life in danger.

My own breathing was coming out heavy. My wounded hand was grabbing the clawed hand of Christopher to my side.

His sharp claws were piercing through my skin but I couldn’t feel any pain at the moment.

Liam’s eyes averted from my face to my hand when he heard the drops of blood dropping on the floor.

His angry gaze softened immediately. “Amber…” he tried to reach and take my hand in his.

But I moved my hand and pushed him away using my other hand. He looked taken aback by my actions.

“Amber… you are bleed…” I didn’t let him complete his sentence and started saying the words which I knew would break him completely.

“I, Amber Brown reject Alpha Liam of the Blue moon pack as my fated mate”.

This is what Christopher wanted me to do. I don’t know why he is doing this, what is it that he is going to gain by tormenting me like this?

When I denied that I won’t reject Alpha Liam at any cost, even if it meant I have to lose my life, he threatened me using the life of my family and my pack members.

Yesterday I saw my best friend dying because of me, right in front of my eyes.

The thought of his mate, my friend Anna is making it difficult for me to even breath. She must be devastated right now. She must be in so much pain.

She lost her mate, the love of her life because of me. The fact that I am the reason for her miseries is killing me from inside.

I didn’t have any choice other than to do as he says. I can’t see anyone else dying because of me.

I have never felt so helpless in my entire life.

Liam looked like his whole world has crumbled down in front of his eyes.

“Amber…” he took a step towards me again and lifted his hand to reach out to touch me.

But this time I backed away, taking a step back, away from him.

“I am sure you must have felt our bond weakening on the day of our wedding after I disappeared from my room” I said trying to sound cold.

“Do you want to know why? It’s because, I married him. Now I am bound to him”.

I said pointing in the direction of Christopher who moved from behind me and was now standing few steps away from me, to my right side.

Liam shook his head. “No.. that’s because… because he forced you to do that. I know… you wouldn’t do it willingly” he stuttered on his words.

I never thought that a person like Liam who is known to be very strong and confident Alpha who never waivers in any situation, would ever stutter like this in any situation.

But see, I, his own mate is making him so weak.

“Yes, you are right. He forced me. But what can we even do now. It has already happened” I said trying to hold back my sobs.

“I will take you back… I will protect you Amb….”

“Then where were you two days ago when his men kidnapped me? I am sure you knew where I was, didn’t you?” I asked.

Again, the feeling of regret washed over him and his eyes looked apologetic.

“You knew where I was but still you chose not to come and save me”.

“Amber… you know that…” I didn’t let him explain and said cutting him off.

“I know you didn’t have any other choice. You had to think about your pack, your people. That is why I am not blaming you for anything”.

“Today as well, I just want you to think about your pack and accept my rejection” I begged.

He shook his head again. “I am sorry for not coming for you sooner. But don’t punish me like this Amber”.

“Liam…”

“I can’t accept your rejection. I won’t” he stated.

I closed my eyes feeling helpless. My heart is clenching in my chest seeing him so heartbroken like this.

Inhaling a sharp breath I opened my eyes to stare into his brown orbs and said, “If you don’t accept it, I will kill myself”.

I saw shock taking over Liam’s features. From my peripheral vision I could see Christopher staring at my face. I think even he is shocked hearing my words.

But I don’t have any other options to convince Liam to accept my rejection and forget about me.

“What…” an almost inaudible whisper left Liam’s mouth.

“If you don’t want to see my dead body lying in front of your very eyes then accept the rejection” I threatened.

“Amber… why are you doing this? Why…? Please don’t do this” Liam begged taking a step towards me making me take few steps back.

“I said accept it” I shouted.

“For goddess' sake Amber, I am not accepting your rejection” he shouted back. More fresh tears are streaming down on his face.

I moved my gaze from his face to look at Christopher who was watching the scene unfold with amusement in his eyes.

My heart is telling me to beg in front of him to not make me do this. I can’t see Liam in this devastated state.

It was as if he read my mind and knew what I was thinking about as in a second the amusement disappeared from his eyes and they turned ice cold.

‘Don’t even think about it' this is what the look in his eyes was saying to me. He was warning me to not make any mistakes.

I sighed internally and shifted my eyes and they fell on a coffee table which was at a little distance from me.

To be more precise they fell on a kitchen knife lying on the table beside a fruit basket.

I stormed towards it and grabbed it in my wounded hand. Liam’s eyes were as wide as saucers when he saw me putting the knife near my throat.

“I told if you don’t accept it then I will kill myself” I threatened again hoping it would work.

“Please put it down Amber… you will hurt yourself” Liam said in his trembling voice. I can hear concern in his tone.

Ignoring his words I pressed the knife even more closer to my skin and he panicked.

“Okay.. okay I will… accept… I’ll accept your rejection. Please.. put that knife down” he begged.

I sighed internally but didn’t move the knife. He stared at me, as if he was trying to beg for me to change my mind.

But when I didn’t say anything he realised that I won’t change my mind, he sighed in defeat.

Inhaling a sharp breath, he uttered with tears in his eyes which were filled with so much pain and in a voice which was shaking like a dry leaf.

“I accept your rejection”.

I didn’t wait even for a second. I dropped the knife and ran out of there, wanting to escape this world and entered inside the first room I saw, closing the door behind me.

I couldn’t even take few steps inside when I felt a soul piercing pain shot through my entire body and squeezing my already aching heart in a tight grip.

I fell on my knees clenching the cloth of my dress near my chest where my heart is, in my fist.

“Ahh…” I whimpered out. It’s the pain of my mate bond breaking with Liam.

I closed my eyes ready to give in to the pain. I don’t have to endure this pain to live my life without my mate.

I don’t want to live with the man who forced me to cause this kind of tremendous pain to love of my life Liam.

I would rather die than live as someone else’s slave.

I was ready to let the pain consume me whole when I felt someone crouching down beside me.

I opened my eyes for them to meet with those green ones which were staring at me with nothing but blankness. I didn’t even realise when he entered into the room.

Ignoring him I was just about to close my eyes again when he decided to speak.

“If you are thinking about dying then let me tell you that you are not allowed to do that” he said.

“And who told you that I need your permission do that” I asked as I glared at him with my angry gaze.

“Of course you need my permission. Did you forget that now we are bounded with one another? That means your life now belongs to me”

“And let me make myself clear that I don’t care if you live or die after I stop breathing today”

“I know that. But what about your parents?” he asked and my eyes widened.

“I am sure you care, if they die or live” he said.

I shook my head in disbelief. “You can’t do this. You promised me that if I do as you say then you won’t hurt my family, my people” I shouted.

“And I remember I told you that you can’t try to get away from me and do just as I said” he retorted.

I sighed in defeat. “Why are you doing this to me? Why are you making my life so miserable? What do you want from me huh?” I asked at least wanting to know why all of this is happening to me.

He ignored all of my words as always, not bothering to answer my questions.

He lifted his hand up to remove few strands of my hairs away from my face and I let him. I don’t have any energy left in my body to fight against him.

“At least tell me exactly what do you want from me?” I whispered out in broken voice, already knowing in my heart that he won’t give me the actual reason or won’t even bother to give an answer, as always.

But to my surprise, this time he decided to speak.

“You know Alpha king Adrian, right?”.

My brows knitted together in confusion at his out of the blue question.

‘Why is he asking about Alpha king Adrian so suddenly?’ This question crossed my mind.

But deep down in my heart I knew that he had some kind of plan for me.

The look in his eyes was enough to tell me that things were about to get messier than they already were.

But what I didn’t know was that I was about to become a pawn at someone else’s game.

A pawn that Alpha Christopher can use for his benefit.
