Chapter 34 Graham's POV The construction site was chaos. Metal screaming, men shouting over each other. Dust stung my eyes, my helmet weighed a ton. I still couldn’t hear my own thoughts. I wasn’t here. Not really. My mind was in another city. Another office. Another life. With Janessa. My phone buzzed in my pocket. I checked again. No reply from her. Three weeks of good. Then three days of nothing- no ‘busy,’ no voice note, no midnight ramble she always forgot to finish. “Just busy,” I told myself. “She’s handling her business.” Still, worry coiled tight in my chest. The last time we spoke, she sounded… tired. Unlike herself. And I wasn’t there to hold her, to support her, to ease her like I always did. My phone buzzed again. For a stupid second, I thought it was her.
