Needing Not Wanting

Mason Things were all fine until Connie came with her big mouth. I can’t say I don’t love her like Liv. But in a big difference. Connie is an annoying younger sister that’s always coming into your room without asking. Yet with the growth of friendship we have. I can relay on her. And in this time, I can. She has grown on me. And in a way. She’s family. Me. Her. And Liv. Before Travis and Liv mated. The last few years. I believed it would just be us three having each others back. Now its not just me and the girls. “Elizabeth is too stubborn. And I can’t tell her about the letter. I need this to be done.” “Are you sure? Liv will hate it. She’ll hate you. Us!” I tell Travis. He scoff. “That’s the chance I’m gonna take. It’s for her safety.” I see the way he says it. This was a hard decision for him to make. “I agree. From what you guys have told me. And the stuff I hear out there. Liv needs to be more careful.” Connie says with her sass. “Liv is gonna hate us for this. We don’t even know if we’ll need them. Maybe we can talk to her. Convince her to be less reckless. For the pack and the coven.” I claim. Both Travis and Connie looked at another. Giving me a look of idiotic. “I tried many times. You two know she won’t just sit back. And I’m not risking losing my mate anytime soon.” Travis admits. My full love for Liv goes for her mate. He’s my brother and best friend. I suck in air. As I know all this is true. Liv was like this her whole life. She gives her all. And now that she’s soon to be Luna. Responsible for others and their love ones lives. Her all won’t lessen. I was on their side with this. But she’s been through so much. I’m not so sure. “It’s her life! We can’t lose our sister.” Oliver growls at me. “We won’t lose her. The last thing we’ll do is lose Liv.” “You know her. We know her. Sometimes we have to just do s**t she’s gonna hate us for. As long as she’s alive and breathing.” Oliver was right. I took Connie to Liv’s spell room. I got everything she ordered me around for. It took some time. But after a while. She finish up her spell. She pour the brew she made into two syringes. I linked Travis when she was almost done. He walks in just in time for her to explain. “Okay so it’s dumb proof wolfies.” We snarl at her. She ignores. “When you need to. Without her knowing of course. Just be fast and push down. She’ll be out for a while.” “For how long?” Travis ask. “That was the tricky part. I don’t have her here to know for sure. And the intake for a witch or vampire are very different. So I made it stronger than normal.” She tells us. “Why do we need two? Wouldn’t one be enough?” I asked. I was concern this may be an on going issue. “The dose idiot.” She slaps the back of my head. Oliver snarls back at her. “Other than that. I want to put one in each place I may need them. I’ll be the one doing it. Not you Mason.” He grabs my shoulders. Oliver calms down. As does I. “If she needs to be down longer for any reason. Get the second one. Any more than that, it can be fetal. Or worse.” We look at Connie with an ominous look. “What the hell is worse?” “Relax. There’s a reason I only made two. She won’t turn into snow white or whatever.” Waving us down as if we had no reason to be concern. “f*****g witches and near death spells. Can’t it just be simple.” I turn to hand Travis the syringe but he close my fist and push back. “No. She’ll be back soon. I don’t have time to go hide them. You hold them until.” Shaking his head at me. I look down at the syringes in my hand. Griping them. “This s**t better convince her or else..” “I will deal with Elizabeth. Plus I’ll just say I force you two into it.” Connie chuckles loud. “Ha! You still have a lot to learn about. She won’t believe that shit.” Connie pushes through us. Stopping at the door. She turns. Looking at us both up and down. “I know I have no reason for knowing whatever you two know and all. But I agree we needed to do this for her safety. Even if she hates us for it. We can’t lose her.” Connie gives us a look. A mix of emotions. “That’s why we have to do this. She may not care about her life. But we do.” I say while I take it all in. Accepting the truth. I can’t be her brother anymore. I need to start acting more like her Beta if I want to keep her around. ALIVE. Finally Liv and Gamma arrive. Times flies as we all gather together and enjoy some food. I see how loved Liv was finally feeling after all these years. And after her ex, then her parents death. Her coven and bitchy sister. She fell back into her dark times. She was pushing us away again. Oliver and I are just happy to see she gets to have a family now. She accepted her mate and the high role it comes with. She has grew in such am amazing person. I love to see her smile like this. Even when not long ago she cried in our arms. “She’s always haunted. We can’t change that.” “I know. And all this stress is making it worst. Travis is her mate. He makes the call though.” “You know he’s right. You’re just not use to stepping back from her.” Oliver scoff into his paw. “Neither am I. But we have no choice in it. She’s gonna get herself kill.” “Talking won’t do a damn thing. So heres to plan B.” “Two plan B’s.” Oliver states. Right when things seems so happy. It all turns quick. One of our allies near by were under attack. I saw first hand with everyone how brave and careless Liv was. She didn’t hesitant one second to run in to help another pack. But Travis was right. She’s safer here. Someone is plotting something out there. And they targeted Liv. “If she tries to leave. Do it. Both if you need to. Just keep her there Beta. Understand.” “Yes Alpha.” Travis mind-link me orders as he leaves. Connie and I both were able to get her to stay. But that didn’t last long. I panic. And when she tried to walk off. I turn to Connie who nods to me. Agreeing. So I reach into my pocket and grab one of the syringe. Pop the top off and just did it. I saw the hurt of betrayal in her eyes. I can only assume she wonders if this was a friendly betrayal or worse. “I’m sorry Liv. I had to.” It broke my heart to say. In seconds her eyes rolled in the back of her head. Her body falls limp. I catch her before she hits the ground. “f**k that was quick.” Connie says in shock. I pull Liv into my arms. Carrying her onto the couch. I lay her down nicely as Connie fixes her head onto her lap. She combs Liv’s hair with her fingers. “We’ll explain why when Travis returns. You need to understand that your life matters just as much as anyone else does. It’s okay to not always be the savior.” Connie kisses her head. I grab the blanket and tuck them both in together. I watch Liv as her breathing stays normal, and her chest cave in as if she was nothing more than sleeping. “Alpha. Luna is asleep. We had to do it. She was gonna leave.” I mind-link Travis. It was a long shot to mind-link. He must be close to range still. Forest Grave is closer than the other packs. Being his Beta I can reach him a bit out of range. He growls his first response. “Alright. Hurry Beta. There’s more than expected.” “Yes Alpha.” I looked up. Connie grabbed my hand. “It’s okay Mason. I got her. I know it’s not easy for you to decide whether to be a best friend, a brother, or Beta. Just know you’re doing a great job.” I look back at Liv. I swear I felt like I’m not doing my best. Like some how I can be doing better. For her. “Go on Mason. You’re needed. Leave the other syringe. Go do what you do best. Protect.” Connie adds. I kiss Liv’s forehead. I take a deep breath. Handing Connie the last syringe. “We’ll be back soon.” I give Connie a kiss on the cheek. And cup just the side of her face. “Thank you Connie. You two mean the world to me. Please stay here. Don’t let anyone see..” My eyes motion to the syringe. She hides it away. “Love you Mason.” She says before I take off. Liv My eyes flutter open. I groan to a small aching pain to my neck. “What the hell.” Rubbing the side of my neck. I looked around to see I was in my room. In my bed. “How the hell did I get here?” The last thing I remember was arguing with Mason. I was gonna go help my mate. And next thing I knew.. Mason did this? He did something to keep me from leaving? Why? “Motherfuckers! Those wolves ambush me.” I punch my bed and throw the sheets off of me. I jump off the bed and determine to find out what the hell was going on. I looked out the window to see no change. I have no clue if it’s the next day or the same day. All I see is new guard shifts. And the witches gathering baskets. I assume it’s herbs and premade medical potions for the Forest Grave wolves. Just then I heard voices behind the door. I walked closer to hear. “Don’t worry. I’ll take all the blame. You two had nothing to do with it.” My mate’s rugged voice said. “No offense Travis. But Liv is smart to figure out you didn’t do this alone. We’re just at fault as you are.” Connie’s calm voice tells my mate. “We talked about this. It was for her own good. How else would we keep her alive.” Mason adds on. “Look guys. Thanks but..” Travis slowly opens the door and I waited for them all to come to view. “She’s gonna wake up and..” Connie add on quick. Stopping mid sentence when she sees me standing there. Waiting for them. “Hey sleepy head. You’re awake.” Mason said cheery. When both wolves turn their eyes onto me. “Baby I..” “Don’t even start to lie to me. The three of you!” I growl at them. “See! I told you.” Connie puts both her hands on her hips. Giving the boys a demeanor look. “Shut up! You’re not innocent here either!” Mason shouted to her. “Enough!” Travis’s Alpha tone rose. They both stop their bickering. “No you stop!” I exclaim. “Mason, Connie.” They look at me with questionable eyes. “Get out.” No hesitation they both leave. I flick my finger out to close the door. Almost catching my mate’s arm in the process. He jumps a bit to the side to not get caught. “Elizabeth.” Tone changing. “Allow me to explain..” “Go on then! Tell me why my two best friends had to put me asleep while you all worked as a team to guilt me into staying in the pack house. Explain boys!” My eyes turn a dark red. I was one tick in slapping them. “I had no choice baby. You keep risking your life over everyone. It’s not safe.” “Life is never safe! I have never been safe. But that doesn’t give you the right to forbid me to my less dismay. I’m not useless boys! I can protect myself. You three didn’t ha..” “But we did because we all agreed you needed to stay put!” They shouted back. I see my mates eyes flashing at me. And his jaw clicks. I flare my nose at him. Waiting to hear what he has to say. “Elizabeth.” He breathes. I did the same. “Travis. Malcolm.” “It doesn’t feel safe out there for you right now. And Goddess forbid I lose you over some little things as protecting some pack whom Alpha can’t even show one ounce of respect for you. You leaving anywhere without me knowing you can’t be protected the way we can. It scares the living s**t out of me. And what if I follow my father’s steps. You’re taken and after everything I do to get you back. You still don’t return safe into my arms.” I drop my arms to my side. Not only can I hear the pain and fear from his words. I can feel their heart pounding against their chest. Their eyes lock on mine with fullness. “I don’t want to keep you trap here. I don’t. But something is not right out there. My gut is telling me you can’t. Please baby. Understand I only went this route because I know you won’t go down unless I fall to my knees. Begging you to stay safe. To just temporary let me protect you in the way you never had. You don’t always have to be the hero. You can sit and relax. Heal and grow stronger. I know you’re strong and powerful with it all. But please Elizabeth. I would of never suggest such a thing if I knew I could of convince you by just my words. You need more to get why. This was my proof to you. Mine.” He said. “I don’t want to be saved like a damsel! I’m fine on my God damn own! I’ve been protecting myself!” Still locking eyes. “You may not f*****g want it! But you f*****g need it! We all may not want a lot of s**t! Needing is a whole other thing!” I tried to speak but he shouted louder. “You f*****g needed it Elizabeth!” I looked down a second. My teeth crossing over the other. Travis’s chest caved and his shoulders tighten. “I have devoted my life to giving you what you needed. What we need. Even if you hate me for doing it. It keeps you, us safe. I’m not gonna wake up the next day knowing you’re no longer alive because we fail. AGAIN!” My heart stopped. As did his. My face drops. Seeing his full exposure. I stepped closer and grabbed their finger tips. “Is there something you’re not telling me? Are we in danger?” Because of me I ask him. “It’s a very strong gut feeling.” He says with a small pause. I step closer to them. Only inches away. Travis looks down at me. His eyes swollen in a plead way. “I’m not happy with what you did. The three of you. But..” I pause for a second. Thinking what is best. For the extreme outcome they had to go by to lead this result. It was not so simple. “I’ll listen better. I don’t want us to keep fighting over things like this. I understand, we both can’t go off every time. I just.. I just can’t wait.. Knowing I could of and didn’t.” I admitted to them. “I know baby. I know. We’ll figure it out.” He pulls me in and rubs down my back. I lay my head between his mold. Feeling secure and love. “I’m scared too boys. But being scared never helped a damn thing.” I crook. “You know. You are one of the most hell rising Luna there is. And one day. I have no choice then to drag you aside me to bring down all the Alphas. Growing a bigger, better, stronger family.” I lift my chin up to him. Smiling gracefully. “Your sweet words isn’t helping.” He chuckles at me. “How about this. There’s a meeting at Forest Grave in an hour. Come with as Beta’s replacement.” “I thought the rules states I couldn’t go unless it’s big. I’ll just cause trouble if I go. Alpha Baker doesn’t even like me.” I say. “I don’t care two s**t what he f*****g likes or don’t like. I’ll put him on his ass again if he say some shit.” He lift my hand to his lips. Kissing it. “I want you there. All the Lunas are gonna be there.” “I’m not even a Luna.” I said with more of a frown tone. He kisses me hard on the lips. I groan to their taste. “You’re more than that.” I cup his face. “Okay my wolf. Okay.” Travis had inform me everything that had went on. The amount of wolves attacking to the alliances arguing over the reason. I figure my name came up. Which is why they suggested a meeting later to discuss while everyone gets medical attention. For our pack it seems we had minor to no injuries. I had only been asleep for a bit since they arrived back. So timing for me was good. I went to check in with the wolves, and thanked them. I spoke to my coven to answer any questions. Travis and Connie held up my end while I was preoccupied. The witches handle the attack well since it wasn’t us. A few wanted to go off and help. But I inform them we are still in working matters. That one day, maybe soon. It would not be a question. I was proud how far the coven as gone with the environmental change here. I was also glad to not see Cherry in the crowd. She had no way to start bullshit without her presence. I aware them and all my people that Travis and I will be off grounds for a bit. Attending a meeting about the attack. A few witches had spoke up about the gifts they prep for the Forest Grave pack. I thanked all their generosity and will delivered them. And of course I had to reassure my best friends that I am mad at them. But I totally understand why. I apologize for putting them in that situation in the first place. Both smiled and hugged me. Mason’s eyes glows as he kisses my head. I knew if I’m gonna be mad at anyone about anything. It should be myself.
