The Alpha King is dying… and only his mate can save him.

Cursed to die before his 30th birthday, Alpha King Lucas Vinci has one last chance at life—finding and mating with his true fated mate. But fate plays a cruel trick. His mate… is human.

Ella never believed in werewolves or mates. She was just trying to survive, protect her sick grandmother, and finish school. But her world shatters the moment Lucas Vinci walks into her life—powerful, dangerous, and claiming her as his.

There’s only one problem.

If Lucas marks her, she dies.

If he doesn’t, he dies.

Trapped in a race against time, torn between a deadly love and a cursed destiny, Ella and Lucas must face a terrifying question: Is their love worth one of their lives?

Chapter 1
The year was 2027. Humans and werewolves lived side by side in harmony. But deep in the werewolf world, a dark secret was eating away at their most powerful leader. Alpha King Lucas gripped the edge of his desk as another wave of fire shot through his body. The curse was acting up again. It felt like someone had lit a match under his skin and the flames were spreading through every muscle, every bone. He fell to his knees, his jaw clenched tight to stop himself from screaming. The burning lasted three minutes. It always lasted three minutes. When it finally stopped, Lucas was covered in sweat and shaking. He was trying to catch his breath when his Beta Hugo walked into the room. "Alpha, the new she-wolves will be arriving soon," Hugo said, pretending not to notice the way Lucas was struggling to stand. Lucas didn't say a word. He grabbed his jacket from the chair and put it on. "Let's go." In the sitting room, the high priestess was waiting. She wore a long black dress and her head was covered with black cloth. Only her pale hands and sharp eyes were visible. Five girls stood in a line, all wearing white dresses. They looked nervous. The high priestess stepped forward. "Alpha Lucas, these are the five she-wolves born under the full moon from various packs." Without saying anything, Alpha Lucas raised two fingers and made a turning motion. "Turn around and remove your robes," the high priestess told the girls. The girls did as they were told. Lucas studied their backs carefully as they stood with their backs to him. He was looking for something specific. After a long moment, the high priestess spoke. "None of these girls have the Polaris birthmark." Lucas stood up fast, anger flashing in his eyes. "Everybody out. Now!” The girls grabbed their dresses and ran from the room like scared rabbits. When they were alone, Lucas turned to the high priestess. "I'm running out of time here. I turn thirty next month. You realize that, right?" "We will find her, sir." "We will find your mate before—" "Before what?" Lucas cut her off. "Before I violently die from this curse? Find me my fated mate or find me a f*****g coffin.” Outside Lucas's mansion, the five rejected girls were talking in hushed voices. "I thought Alpha Lucas brought us here to, you know, have an orgy," one of them said with a giggle. Another girl rolled her eyes. "Seriously? If the Alpha King Lucas wanted to f**k she-wolves, he certainly wouldn't pick you." A third girl looked thoughtful. "Don't you guys think it's weird? Alpha King Lucas has brought hundreds of girls to his packhouse and no one is allowed to talk about what happens here. All he does is look at our asses?" "Something must be wrong with him," another added. Just then, a red car drove past them. It was Lucas. He slowed down and looked at them through his window. The girls stared back. Then he looked away and sped up. Lucas was driving on the main road when his phone started ringing. He reached for it, taking his eyes off the road for just a second. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, a girl named Ella was walking and talking on her phone. "Oh, grandma, please don't worry about the medical bills. I will make sure that I—" She looked back and her eyes opened wide. Lucas's red car was heading straight toward her, about to hit her. She fell down and fainted. But as she lay unconscious on the ground, something strange happened. A mark on her back, right at her waist, began to shine with a soft light. The glow lasted only a few seconds before she woke up. When Ella opened her eyes, she saw the red car had crashed into a brick wall. Someone was trapped inside. Without thinking about her own pain, she ran to Lucas's car to help him. She quickly called the ambulance, and they took him to the hospital. Later at the hospital, Lucas lay unconscious in his bed. Ella sat in the chair beside him, worried and afraid. "Oh, crap. I hope he's okay," she thought to herself. "He didn't look hurt. I wonder why he passed out." Before she knew it, his eyes opened. She moved closer to him and said, "Oh, um, sir, you're awake. Listen, you passed out and I brought you to the hospital.” Her hand was moving closer to touch his arm, but he raised his hand to block her from touching him. Instead, their hands joined together, and suddenly a mating twilight began to glow around their joined hands. Ella never noticed what was happening, but Lucas saw it clearly. He was shocked. "No, no, no, no, no," he thought to himself. "She can't be my fated mate. She's human. Why is this happening?" He was staring at her with wide eyes. Ella was staring back at him, and a strange thought came to her mind: "He's a werewolf." Before Ella could blink, Lucas was already out of the bed like a flash. He pressed her against the wall and said, "What is your name?” "Um, my name is Ella Storm. You almost hit me with your car," she said, confused and scared. Lucas said to himself, "Well, she clearly smells like a human. How is that possible? A human is my mate?" He started smelling her hair and body. Ella was becoming very uncomfortable with this. She said, "Sir, you really need to sit down." "Remove your shirt and turn around," he said to her. "Excuse me!" Ella said, shocked. Before she could blink, he had already turned her around, pressing her body against the wall.
