“Gentlemen, I am pleased to introduce you to these men.”
The room was filled with silence as they didn’t know why these men were present during the pack’s meeting. No one has an idea about it, including Sam who was looking intently in Draken’s direction. Draken couldn’t wait for what the men he ordered to investigate the said trade would say in front of these people inside the hall.
“Who might be these people, Alpha?” The quivering voice of Alejandro could be heard in the silent room.
“These men investigated the said incident that happened last night, which all of you knew that it killed a member of the pack.” When he mentioned the member, Draken made eye contact with the old man, who was terrified. He could see that the hands of the man trembled out of fear.
One of the men secretly handed Draken a piece of paper that was only addressed to him and it included some information that is not for everybody to see.
“You ordered these men? Why?” Alejandro chimed in.
“To know the truth.” Draken declared.
The room was filled with silence and the atmosphere started to thicken because of the tension that was engulfing the said room. Everyone’s attention was fixated on the men that the Alpha ordered to investigate.
“The floor is yours.” Draken ushered for the man who wore the black hat.
“Okay, Alpha…” He nodded and proceeded in front of the scrutinizing stare of the people.
“When we asked the head of the warehouse, the soldier came from the said place because someone ordered him to ask for an update on the trade in the middle of the night. And if it was still beyond accomplishing, the soldier would enter a new trade as a representative of his head, under, of course, the name of the Trowbridge pack.” The men emphasized that the time was unreasonable to trade.
“Did the soldier go alone?”
It was a good question that Sam raised.
“The soldier was alone when he came to the warehouse.”
“How about the men who were with him on his way to the warehouse?” Another member of the pack questioned.
“Based on what we have gathered, the soldier was also alone…and no one was with him last night.”
The tension inside escalated and most of the eyes of the men went to look in Alejandro’s direction. The old man didn’t expect that what he had ordered his soldier to do would turn out to be a devastation to him.
“Can you answer this, Alejandro?” It was the turn of the Alpha to ask the old man in his usual stone-cold voice.
Draken was giving him the look that he couldn’t hide something from him and that he would know anything even the deepest and darkest secret of the man. The said gaze made the old man feel discomfort in his seat.
“I…I’m sorry, Alpha!” He immediately went down and kneeled in front of Draken.
“I don’t need your apology. Your apology won’t revive the life of your innocent soldier.” He hissed.
Draken is not someone who showed his emotional side in front of his men. He always shows his ruthless physique. And that is something that he had been working on since the time he was seated as the Alpha of the pack.
Alejandro continued to kneel in front of Draken and his tears started streaming down his eyes. He was afraid for his life, and for the life of his two daughters now that he was also at fault for the death of his soldier.
“I…I personally ordered Romeo for the trade that I am involved with…” Alejandro started.
He wanted the Alpha to know that he didn’t plot anything against the pack, but his violation would cost him being exiled, and he also expected it. But now that this is revealed, all he ever wanted is a punishment that is light, that he could bare to accept alone.
“And what is that all about?” Draken noticed that the man was still contemplating about what he was about to say in front of the people inside the room. He could see that the man was trembling and terrified in Draken’s presence, and he knew that it has something to do with the violations that the old man committed.
“About the…supply of the animal skins…”
“In the middle of the night?” Draken asked him once more. He could feel that the man was hiding something.
“I know that the time was unreasonable, Alpha…I…I-apologize.”
“I need an explanation of the time.”
Draken wouldn’t just let the man escape his scrutiny even if it cost the man’s dignity as a highly respected individual inside the pack.
“It’s about personal matters at home, Alpha-“
“Even if it’s a personal matter at your household, the fact that someone was killed, a member of the pack, concerns not only your household but the entire pack as well. So tell us why or else-“
“I! I will tell Alpha! Just…just give me time to also provide my explanation to you alone.”
“Hmmm. A negotiation. I see. Alright, gentlemen. I will see to it that this man deserves the appropriate punishment for the violation that he made.” Draken declared. And the room was filled with a buzzing whisper.
“Thank you, Alpha! Thank you!” Alejandro was still able to save his name. And he wouldn’t let this chance slip off away from his hand now that the Alpha showed him a piece of his mercy.
“Let’s go back to the information gathered from the investigation. Continue.” Draken signaled for the man in a black hat to continue with the information.
“When we check the corpse, it was…the heart was wounded with silver.” The man’s face was unexplainable as they reminisce about the sight of the soldier’s lifeless body in the forest, soaked in his own blood.
“Did you notice anything aside from the wound?” This caught Draken’s attention. He knew exactly who has the ability to kill his skillful soldier right where they were most vulnerable.
