A new place

2026 Words
Kirsty sat in the carriage, her hands tightly bound behind her back, her mind racing with a mix of fear and confusion. The events that had transpired just moments ago had left her shaken. She had witnessed a fierce battle, felt the sting of silver, and now found herself in the company of the one-eyed beta, whose gaze held a mix of suspicion and scrutiny. "Your blood..." He started. As the carriage rumbled along, the tension in the air was palpable. Kirsty couldn't help but feel a sense of vulnerability, knowing that her every move was being watched. The mention of her blood by the beta only added to her growing unease. "W-what do you mean?" Kirsty's voice trembled slightly as she mustered the courage to ask for clarification. The beta leaned closer, his gaze piercing and unwavering. "I am watching you, rogue," he replied, his voice low and laced with an edge of authority. His words hung heavy in the confined space of the carriage, leaving Kirsty with a mix of apprehension and curiosity. Even if she was already healed and is no longer that weak, she remained to be as submissive as possible now that the rogues have plans on getting back to her. She had no idea why her presence caught the attention of the enemies. She considered those who have attacked them their enemies, even if they are of the same kind as her. Kirsty had already thought about the possible things that might happen to her now that the beta had tasted her blood, but she had no idea what it caused him. As the carriage rumbled along, Sam sat in silence, lost in his own thoughts. The presence of the rogue beside him was a constant reminder of the recent events that had unfolded. He couldn't help but reflect on the dangerous situation he had unknowingly put his Alpha, Draken, in. The memory of the intoxicating scent of the rogue's blood lingered in Sam's mind. It was a scent he had never encountered before, one that had initially captivated him with its allure. In his naivety, Sam had believed that he had brought a Wolfsbane to Draken, unaware of the true nature of the woman he had delivered. When Draken killed and eradicated the woman, Sam was the one who cleaned the body and burned its ashes. But he was so sure of what he smelled at that time; it was the same as the woman’s name Kirsty, the rogue that he is with. It was still a puzzle to him why his man back in the warehouse was not killed he ordered his man to taste the rogue’s blood. When Kirsty was being attacked by their enemies earlier, Sam wondered why her kind attacked her. When the woman was wounded and blood rushed out of her own flesh, Sam was not able to control himself and shifted to his inner wolf and attacked the enemy. When he saw and smelled the blood, he couldn’t control himself and licked the blood until the woman has healed herself. The moment he had a chance to taste the woman’s blood, he felt that something has changed inside him. He had to admit that he became stronger, and the wound that he had on his neck due to the poisonous silver that was used by the rogue to stab him was healed. And he was far beyond surprised to discover what happened. It was the reason why he decided to let the rogue stay with him in the same carriage and utter a single thing about what happened earlier. He decided to keep his observations to himself for the time being, not wanting to alarm or unsettle Kirsty with his puzzling discovery. The scent of her blood had caught his attention—a familiar aroma that reminded him of the blood tainted with poison, a substance that should have been deadly. However, instead of succumbing to its effects, he felt a surge of strength course through his veins, and the wound he had sustained began to heal as if touched by the magic of the white witches in their pack. “Are we all clear?” Sam shouted at his men who were in front of them. "We are nearing the entrance of the pack," one of Sam's men responded, his voice carrying a sense of urgency mixed with determination. It was clear that they were approaching a critical juncture, where the safety and security of their pack awaited. "Any signs of rogues?" His tone was sharp and focused, reflecting the weight of responsibility he carried as the beta of the pack. The presence of rogues could pose a significant threat, potentially endangering the lives of their pack members. "None, everything is clear, beta!" came the reassuring reply from one of the men. Relief washed over Sam, though he remained vigilant, knowing that danger could still lurk in unexpected corners. The absence of rogue activity was a small victory, but he understood the need for continued caution until they reached the safety of their pack's territory. "Clear the lane, make sure that no one is after us!" Sam's voice rang out with a sense of authority and determination. The urgency in his words conveyed the importance of securing their path and preventing any pursuit. Every member of his pack had a duty to protect one another, and their swift actions could make all the difference in ensuring their safe arrival. “Alright!” Kirsty remained silent as they were nearing the entrance of the pack, and she could now see the tallest she had ever seen in her life. Her heart started to pound. For her, this is going to be the start of something new in her life. She was able to see the surroundings as the carriage is open. She was glad that the beta didn’t ask her further questions about their encounter earlier because she didn’t have the answer to the possible questions that he might ask her. “Open the gate!” Kirsty's heart skipped a beat as she heard the beta's command to open the gate. The heavy steel barrier slowly creaked and groaned as it swung open, revealing a glimpse of what lay beyond. The darkness of the night shrouded the scene, making it difficult for Kirsty to discern the details of what awaited them. “Are we going to let the Alpha see the slaves?” One of the men approached their carriage and asked him. As the carriage rolled forward, guided by the reins of the horses, the interior of the compound gradually came into view. Shadows danced ominously in the dim light, revealing rows of dilapidated buildings and cages that seemed to hold the secrets of unimaginable suffering. The air was heavy with a sense of despair, and the distant sounds of whimpering and sobbing reached Kirsty's ears, further confirming her fears. Just the mention of the Alpha had made her feel a shiver down her spine. The Alpha was known to many as someone who is brutal and didn’t think twice about killing whoever disobeyed his rules. Even if Kirsty had not seen what he looked like, she already assumed that he was someone old based on the gossip she heard from other people who come by the warehouse. People are afraid of the Alpha. Not only because of his great power but also because he had control of the city and the country. “If the Alpha is present when we reached the ground, we let him. If he’s not, then we deploy the slaves to their jail.” He was confident when he said his plans. “We will let the others know.” The man walked back to tell the others about the beta’s plan. Kirsty thought that she would finally be free from being jailed but he was wrong. The moon was still absent, and the place was so dark as they started to navigate their way in the open field. "Make sure that the numbers are complete, and tie all the slaves," one of them said, the words dripping with a disturbing level of detachment. It was as if they were organizing objects rather than fellow human beings. "Beta, how about in your carriage?" Kirsty overheard the suggestion made by someone nearby. The beta's response finally broke the silence, his words carrying a weight of authority and decision-making. "She'll be the last, start with the humans," he commanded. His tone was firm, leaving no room for debate or questioning. The words hung heavily in the air, painting a picture of cruelty and disregard for human life. It was clear that they viewed the slaves as lower beings, to be subjugated and controlled. "One wrong move and I would not think twice about ending your life," Sam whispered, enough for Kirsty to hear. The beta started to go down the carriage and check the number of carriages behind him. Each carriage contained a slave. Kirsty sat inside the carriage, her hands tightly bound behind her back, but her feet were free. She couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope at the thought of escaping. The idea of breaking free from the confines of the carriage and running off into the unknown beckoned to her. Yet, as tempting as it was, she knew that escaping now would be a perilous decision. The carriage was already within the vicinity of the pack, and the consequences of her escape would be dire. If she managed to slip away unnoticed, she would become a fugitive, hunted both by the pack's men and the rogues who sought her. The weight of such a decision pressed upon her, filling her with a mix of determination and fear. The realization that escape would be a do-or-die situation for her settled heavily in her mind. It was a choice she had to make with utmost caution, considering the risks involved. On one hand, remaining captive within the carriage meant being at the mercy of her captors, subject to their whims and intentions. On the other hand, attempting to break free would thrust her into a treacherous game of survival, where the odds were stacked against her. Kirsty could hear the loud cries of the human slaves in which the members of the pack started to drag them down to the ground. They were all in the same situation as her, their hands were tied on their back, but their feet were free so that they could walk. "Kirsty, let's be vigilant in this new place." The instinctual connection between Kirsty and her wolf allowed them to communicate on a deeper level, sharing their thoughts and concerns. "I know," Kirsty replied, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. She understood that their safety and well-being were paramount in this unfamiliar territory. The rumors she had heard about the pack echoed in her mind, filling her with a sense of unease. It was not just the pack dynamics she feared, but specifically, the notorious Alpha who ruled with an iron fist. The Alpha's reputation as a ruthless leader cast a dark shadow over the pack. Whispers of their merciless nature and strict enforcement of the pack's rules had reached Kirsty's ears, filling her with a mixture of trepidation and caution. The Alpha's dominance and authority were unquestioned, and it was essential for Kirsty and her wolf to tread carefully in their presence. The thought of crossing paths with the Alpha made Kirsty's heart race. Their encounter could potentially shape her destiny within the pack and hold significant consequences. Navigating the delicate dynamics of a new pack, especially one led by such a formidable Alpha, required a delicate balance of caution and adaptability. Kirsty knew that establishing her place in the pack would require patience, respect, and an acute awareness of the rules and traditions that governed their way of life. As she continued to converse with her inner wolf, Kirsty made a silent vow to remain vigilant, observing her surroundings with a watchful eye. She would be mindful of her actions and interactions, always mindful of the potential consequences.
