Kirsty felt suddenly that the one-eyed man raised his guard as he started to walk in her direction. The head moved backward but he never looked away from her direction as he wanted to see how Kirsty controlled herself knowing that she was a rogue, and rogues tend to be more aggressive when they meet anyone who is a member of the pack.
The other rogues inside the warehouse were howling and others were afraid, as evident in their eyes. These men were members of the strongest and most powerful pack in the country and getting in their way would mean bloodshed.
"Show me your face." He said once more.
Kirsty started to feel that she was terrified for her life. She's weak compared to the presence of men inside, and all she could ever do is follow what he said. She lifted her face but she closed her eyes as her hair fell down on her face. Her hands were still tied to her back and she couldn't do anything to clear her own face. She was frozen in her place as the man unnoticeably lifted her chin which made her open her eyes because he was surprised at the sudden contact and looked into her eyes directly.
"Speak your name," he demanded, his voice carrying an air of authority that sent shivers down Kirsty's spine. The intensity of his gaze, coupled with the weight of his words, held her captive at that moment. She felt the weight of his scrutiny, knowing that any misstep could have dire consequences. Her survival instincts kicked in, urging her to maintain her guard, to withhold any information that could jeopardize her safety.
She met his deep gray eyes, searching for any hint of his intentions, any sign of a threat that lay beneath his composed demeanor. Surprisingly, a flicker of something other than hostility seemed to dance within his gaze, a glimmer of curiosity, perhaps even a trace of recognition. Yet, Kirsty remained cautious, fully aware that appearances could be deceiving, and the stakes were too high to take chances.
"I don't want to repeat my words." He raised his voice.
"Ki-Kirsty," she replied, her words a fragile offering in the face of an unpredictable situation. The mention of her name seemed to elicit a reaction, stirring a mixture of emotions within the one-eyed man.
"Your blood smells different. You can't fool me..." He whispered. She knew that her clothes were soaked in blood because of her untreated wound.
Kirsty's heart raced as she heard the whispered words from the one-eyed man. Fear coursed through her veins as she realized that he had noticed something peculiar about her. Her mind raced to find a way to deflect his suspicions, knowing that her life could be in danger if he discovered the truth.
"I don't...know what you are talking about..." Kirsty knew that things started to escalate because her presence caught the attention of the one-eyed man, and it was evident that the man was a high-ranked one in the pack.
"You can't heal yourself?" Kirsty's voice wavered as fear crept into her veins, realizing that the one-eyed man was now positioned behind her, hidden from her line of sight. His abrupt question about her inability to heal herself sent a chill down her spine, heightening her sense of vulnerability. She could feel his presence looming over her, his footsteps echoing ominously in the tense silence. The weight of the situation pressed upon her, intensifying her apprehension. Kirsty's mind raced, trying to anticipate his next move and assess her options.
"I...-"
"Answer me."
"No-"
"Silence! Or I will kill you." He shouted. And it was enough for her to close her eyes and silently prayed for the moon goddess to spare her life from the danger that she was facing at the moment.
The slaves who were crying immediately silenced themselves. Kirsty knew that the man won't think twice about killing whoever he wanted to.
"Hmmm. Kirsty..."
The moment she spoke her name, was the time the man slashed her left wrist with the silver knife that she wasn't aware that the man possessed in the first place. And she was terrified of it. She knew her blood's ability and that smell of it that is enticing. It was questioning why he tasted the blood of the slaves as if he was looking for something and it made her terrified for her own safety. Her blood is different, something that she was still discovering.
The one-eyed man moved to her front and it was as if her world stopped turning as he choked her.
"Where are the others?" he demanded once more, his tone fraught with urgency. Confusion clouded Kirsty's mind as she struggled to grasp the full extent of his words. The mention of rogues and the implication that she was not alone stirred a maelstrom of emotions within her.
"I-I don't know what you are talking about," she stammered, her voice quivering with a mix of fear and genuine confusion. Her eyes remained averted, fixated on the ground beneath her feet. It was the truth; she had been living a solitary existence, far removed from any semblance of a rogue pack.
"You can't fool me," he scoffed, his voice tinged with a hint of hysteria. The laughter that escaped his lips carried a sense of unease, a twisted melody that hung in the air. At that moment, the weight of his words bore down on Kirsty, dousing her hope of escaping this encounter unscathed.
"I-I am alone-"
"Your blood...you think you could kill me?" He laughed hysterically.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she pleaded, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and desperation. Her heart ached, longing for understanding and mercy. All Kirsty had ever desired was a life of peace and solitude, even if it meant existing on the fringes as a rogue.
The anguish in her voice was palpable as she continued, her words laden with sincerity and the unyielding truth she carried within her. "Please! I beg you...I am telling the truth." Each word trembled with the depth of her plea, an earnest attempt to convince the one-eyed man of her innocence.
"Stop crying!" he shouted, his words ringing with a potent mix of frustration, impatience, and something darker that lurked beneath the surface. The intensity of his voice further heightened the anguish that consumed her.
Tears streamed down Kirsty's face, each drop a testament to the agony she endured, both physical and emotional. The pain inflicted upon her by the silver, an excruciating reminder of her vulnerability, coursed through her body like a relentless current. Every movement, every breath, intensified the searing ache that radiated from the wound.
Reluctantly, he took a step back, his intense gaze still fixed on Kirsty.
"Remember, I'm watching you," he warned, his voice laced with a hint of caution. "Don't think you can fool me."
"Beta..." One of his men moved to their place.
"Stop where you are." As if Sam thought of something that would confirm what he was thinking, he called the man who was about to stop him from killing her.
"I can't...breathe..." As Kirsty struggled for breath, her desperate gasps for air filled the room with a sense of urgency. The pressure around her neck tightened, causing her vision to blur and her body to weaken. It was a suffocating, terrifying experience that left her feeling helpless and vulnerable.
"You are a rogue, I know. But you can't heal your wound and your blood is different...hmmm." He started to loosen his grip when the man he was calling for was already in front of Kirsty.
"Lucio, come here." Through her hazy vision, she caught a glimpse of a figure approaching. Lucio, the man Sam had summoned, stood before her. His presence seemed to command attention, his demeanor indicating that he held a significant position within the hierarchy of the pack. Kirsty's gaze flickered between Sam and Lucio, uncertain of what would unfold next.
"You called for me, Be...ta?" Lucio's voice quivered, betraying his anxiety. He tried his best to keep his gaze lowered, avoiding direct eye contact with either the one-eyed man or Kirsty.
"Taste her blood." He smiled triumphantly. The one-eyed man was the one who tasted the blood of the others after he was able to get to know their smell as if he was trying to find something that made him heighten his guard.
"What?...No..." She unknowingly uttered. And it was too late because the one-eyed man heard her.
"What? Did you just say no, rogue?" He felt threatened by her smell, and he wanted to confirm if what he was thinking was right.
"I...-" Kirsty was cut off again.
"Taste it, now!" He said once more. He raised his knife with her blood in it. The man named Lucio licked the knife in front of them and Kirsty noticed that the one-eyed man was serious about what he said. She could feel that the man was still threatened by her presence and he was looking intently at the man who tasted her blood to confirm what he was thinking about.
They were waiting for seconds about what happened next, but the man was just standing and wiping his lips.
The one-eyed man was surprised and Kirsty saw that for seconds, he had the urge to attack her but when he saw that nothing had happened to the man named Lucio, he lowered his guard, and she saw the disappointment in his eyes vanish immediately.
"Go to the back!" The one-eyed man shouted to Lucio and the latter walked immediately.
"We are not yet done, rogue..."
"For now, I will give you the benefit of the doubt," he declared, his voice laced with caution. "But know that I will be watching you closely. Any sign of deceit or betrayal, and you will face the consequences."
"Please...let me live..." She pleaded. The one-eyed man just smirked. Kirsty understood the gravity of the one-eyed man's words. She had bought herself a temporary reprieve, but she knew that her path would remain treacherous. The one-eyed man's watchful eyes and the brewing tensions within the pack reminded her that danger lurked at every corner.
"Gather all the slaves, including this rogue. Secure them and prepare the carriage for us to leave!" He shouted to others.
She felt a sudden relief because her life was not ended.
She thought it would end the moment something happened to the man who tasted her blood, and she was glad that nothing happened. She silently prayed and thanked the moon goddess for her life.
"Be...ta."
"Prepare, gather everybody to leave," Sam shouted.
Amidst the chaos, Kirsty strained to catch the words uttered by the one-eyed man, the beta of the pack. His voice, barely above a whisper, carried an undertone of disbelief and realization. His words pierced the silence, punctuating the gravity of the situation.
"Fuck... I thought she was a Wolfsbane... but the smell..."
Kirsty felt a sudden pain in her head as she heard the name Wolfsbane and it was so serious that her inner wolf shouted for her name. But she could no longer take the pain and everything turned black.
"H-help..." In a desperate plea for help, Kirsty's weakened voice trembled as she managed to utter a single word. The word hung in the air, carrying the weight of her plea and the depth of her despair. But her strength was waning, and her body could no longer withstand the strain it had endured.
Her vision blurred, the room spinning in a disorienting whirl. The lack of oxygen and the relentless pressure on her neck had taken their toll. Darkness closed in around her, enveloping her senses, as consciousness slipped away.
The world became a distant echo, fading into the background as Kirsty's body succumbed to its limits. The floor rushed up to meet her as her limbs went limp, and she crumpled onto the unforgiving surface, unconscious and defenseless.
