In the middle of the forest within the vicinity of Trowbridge Pack is where the warehouse was built. A group of men under the beta's authority, Sam, was in the said place as they were trading back again for human slaves. After the incident that happened the day before yesterday, the pack had doubled its security and they were careful, especially in their trading. Sam was tasked to lead the group for the trade during the day, and he opted to hide his true identity as they traverse their way to the warehouse.
"We are near, beta." It was Lucio, the only man in the group that he didn't like the presence.
"Call me beta again and you'll see your corpse on the ground." He had been careful with his identity but this man started to get on his nerves.
"I...apologize."
"Inform them that we are here," Sam said as he could see the place. The presence of the Wolfsbane couldn't leave his mind now that he know that they have returned.
The loud laughter of human slaves could be heard in the place. Some enjoyed their stay, and some just want to end their lives but they couldn't just end it. Most of the slaves jailed in the deserted warehouse were humans, and only a few were rouge ones, and Kirsty belong to the latter. Her hands were tightly tied behind her back and she could see that drops of blood were dripping off her body from the wounds caused by the hunters. She was living alone in the forest and she managed to live in the area for eight years without compromising her safety. It was that specific night when she decided to hunt for food as she already consumed all of her human foods that she consumed just for the people to never think of her real identity. The city where she lives were a diverse city where the one who has the highest authority is a werewolf, the Alpha of the Trowbridge, to be exact. Humans and werewolves were in agreement, an agreement that they made two years after what they called the greatest attack that happened in the country. Humans were killed by The Wolfbanes, a group of humans, werewolves, witches, and vampires who mercilessly killed everybody they saw. That was what in their doctrine, to kill and never show mercy. The humans have no capacity to protect themselves from the attack, and that is the same reason that they agreed to be protected by the most powerful pack in the country in return, the pack will run the city. Slave trading was one thing that the pack has highlighted since the agreement commenced and all of them could benefit from the trade. Traders will be paid a higher amount and slaves will be delivered to the different packs of the country. And Kirsty became a victim of this. Never in her entire life had she wanted or even dreamed of becoming a slave and being exiled to some packs especially once they know that she was a rogue one. Rogues were treated badly after the attack happened and they were the ones who let the Wolfbanes enter the vicinity, which caused great destruction, including Kirsty, who was separated from his family and lost her memory the moment she opened her eyes and found herself in the middle of the forest, soaking in blood. She was just glad that she was alive even if being alive meant, living alone.
“Silence!” The owner of the warehouse shouted, and Kirsty know it from then blood will shed the moment he heard the agonizing cries of the human slaves. She could feel the pain in the deep wound on her upper right leg when she was caught by the human hunters as she was on the verge of escaping from them, however, she failed from doing it. Loud laughter and gunshots could be heard from the outside, and every time she heard one, she always closed her eyes, each bullet means one was killed.
The warehouse was in the middle of the forest, which was built by the Trowbridge pack so that whenever a slave would escape, they will be immediately get caught. Each one of the slaves was already bought by the pack, and they will be traded to it and to the others, and if ever one escapes, the one who runs the warehouse get the punishment, and Kirsty knew it was going to be a bloody one. Her clothes were soaked in blood as she was put inside the cage and cried silently. All she ever wanted was to live peacefully even without the protection of any packs of the country or the humans. She only trusted a few, and yet those few people were also captivated by the hunters, and she no longer know their whereabouts. Kirsty made sure that no one noticed her as she doesn’t want to get noticed by them.
“A ten!” A one-eyed man approached the wooden door and shouted to the guard and Kirsty stiffened. In her week of stay in the warehouse as a slave, only a member of the Trowbridge pack has the authority to shout and demand ten, ten slaves for a corresponding amount that they could demand from the Alpha himself. The Alpha was known to be one who shows no mercy, and he only resorts to killing, every time someone disobeys him. That’s what Kirsty heard from the others who have experienced staying in the pack.
“A pleasant evening.” The one-eyed man greeted the guard of the room where most of the slaves who stayed for too long in the warehouse were situated.
“A pleasant evening, Mr.” The guard nodded. He was human and Kirsty could sniff that the person who entered the room is a powerful one and if she could only look into his eyes, she could see his weaknesses. It is one of the abilities that she hides from anyone even the people she trusted. It is an ability that she didn’t know she has, and it must do something with her past, a past that she had no memories of.
“The head?”
“He’s inside his office.”
“Let him meet me for the agreement.”
“Absolutely.” The guard once more nodded his head before he started to walk to the path to the head’s office inside the warehouse. Kirsty didn’t want to get the attention of the man who entered the room as he was looking into them, as if he was marking who would go with him tonight. Kirsty was caged in the corner, next to the wall, hence she was the farthest from the others, and she was thankful for it so that she would not be chosen by whoever who wants to buy them. She groaned silently as the pain in her upper leg worsen and it connected down to her feet, making her unable to properly walk. She can always heal herself, it’s one of their natural abilities as werewolves, but she refused to do it. And her reason was, she should show her weaknesses and how she struggled with her wounds so that she wouldn’t be chosen. She knew that most of the women were treated as s*x slaves by then and some were killed when they couldn’t satisfy the needs of their masters. Some were brought to the witches to be the ones tested. And Kirsty was afraid of these. The buyers usually chose those fit slaves who would be able to do their duties, and Kirsty was thankful that she was wounded deeply when she was caught. The hunters didn’t know that she was a werewolf, much more a rogue one, and it was to her advantage to not heal herself, however, Kirsty couldn’t hide her scent from the other werewolves.
“He’s coming.” Her inner wolf said to her. A wave of apprehension washed over her. The gravity of the situation intensified, urging her to find a course of action that would ensure her survival amidst the imminent danger.
“What should I do?” In the meantime, she didn’t know what to do and she was glad that her inner wolf was not asleep, and she was actively communicating through her mind.
"Show no strengths." It was a stark reminder that in the presence of danger, the key to survival lay in concealing any displays of power or resistance. By masking her true potential, Kirsty would be able to navigate the treacherous waters without drawing unnecessary attention or provoking further harm. Resolute and composed, Kirsty embraced the counsel of her inner wolf. She understood the importance of blending in, of assuming an unassuming facade to cloak her true abilities. In this moment, her innate strength would lie in her ability to appear docile and unthreatening, concealing the force that simmered beneath the surface.
The one-eyed man started to point out the cages of the slaves that he will be bringing for the night. Kirsty’s heart was beating so fast, and she was doing her best to remain calm and act like she was in great pain so that she would be excluded from the chosen ones. The man called the others from the outside and Kirsty felt that they were of the same kind, werewolves who came from the strongest pack in the country. She didn’t want to be exiled to Trowbridge, and to any other packs. She had already devised a plan to escape from the warehouse and being chosen would ruin everything. Even if she would live alone as a rogue, she was contented with it, but, a part of her wanted to be a member of a pack. A thought that is too impossible to happen. She was dying inside to know who she was from the past, and all she ever remembers was the attack that happened years ago that made her lose her memory, except for one thing that she always dreamed about, she saved someone escapes from the captives of the attackers and it was the reason why she faced them.
Kirsty felt a sudden pain in her head as she tried to remember her dream, a dream that has been recurring for days.
“No! Please!” As the ninth human slave was forcibly pulled from her confining cage, her body crumpled upon contact with the hard, wooden floor. Kirsty's heart clenched in anguish as she bore witness to the harrowing scene unfolding before her. The young woman's fragile frame trembled, a haunting testament to the physical and emotional toll that her captivity had taken.
Her hands and feet were tightly bound, a cruel knot serving as a painful reminder of her helplessness. The restraints linked her hands to her bound feet, rendering any attempt to stand or resist agonizingly difficult. The scent of fear permeated the air, mingling with the heavy weight of despair that settled upon the room. Kirsty could see clearly that the woman was younger than her. The human was struggling to stand on her own and just curled her body on the floor as some of the men were only looking at her.
“Stand.” The one-eyed man demanded her.
The woman was only crying as she couldn’t do what he demanded of her. And it was visible in her eyes that she was terrified for her life, knowing that she was only a human.
“Untie her feet.” The one-eyed man said to one of his men. And her feet were untied.
“Stand.” He once said.
The human slave slowly stood from her own feet, and she was struggling to hold her own weight as she was used to just sitting inside their cage for quite some time.
“Hmmm.” Just like what he did with the other slaves, he pricked a needle in her vein and blood was rushing outside. He touched the slaves’ blood and brought it to his own nose and smell it. Kirsty didn’t know for whatever reason that he was doing it, and she was afraid of when she will be chosen, as she was aware that her blood was not the usual compared to the other rogues and she-wolf. It smells intoxicating, and it heals whoever touched it. Her wound was hidden by her own clothes, and one would only notice that she was wounded if she tried to walk because the moment, she does it, she limped and fell to the ground.
“Are you done?”
Kirsty's surprise grew as she observed the head of the warehouse stepping out of his office to accompany the buyer. It was an unusual sight, as typically the head would delegate such tasks to his subordinates. She couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity and wonder about the nature of their conversation.
“We need one. And based on what I can see, they’re not fit to be one. No human is left”
“Are all of them human?” The head once again asked him.
"Yes, preferably, humans," the one-eyed man replied, a sly grin spreading across his face. Kirsty's heart skipped a beat as she tried to make sense of their words.
Kirsty noticed something on the man’s eye patch. And she looked intently at it. There! She knew that he wasn’t a one-eyed man. He was hiding his own identity by presenting himself with an unusual look. Kirsty silently smirked. This man was up to something in his mind. Kirsty knew that what was left was all rogues, and she started to get worried about the next thing that might happen. Another gunshot was fired, and they were not even moved by it, but Kirsty, another human or a rogue, was killed. Hunters who were bound by the agreement with the pack were not allowed to kill a werewolf who is a member of a pack, regardless of what pack they belong to.
“We might not be able to give you what you demand, we are lacking human slaves as of now. Some were still in the farthest area, and they were on their way here.” The head said. Something that amazed Kirsty is the level of expertise that the head of the warehouse showed from the time she arrived at the place. He could precisely determine who was human, a rogue, or a member of the pack. He is respected by many.
“We lack one.”
The head of the warehouse, aware of the significance of the buyer's request, attempted to negotiate the terms. He knew that fulfilling the buyer's demand was no simple task, but he also understood the potential consequences of refusing.
"We can only offer you a rogue, or you can go by lacking one," the head of the warehouse proposed, his voice tinged with a blend of caution and determination. He recognized the limited options at hand and sought to find a middle ground that would appease the buyer while minimizing the impact on their operations.
The buyer from the Trowbridge pack, deeply engrossed in his thoughts, continued to communicate with the others from his pack.
“We can have the rogue one, but we demand the weakest one.”
As Kirsty listened to the conversation between the head of the warehouse and the one-eyed man, a sense of terror washed over her. The implications of their discussion began to unravel, sending shivers down her spine. While she might not be considered the weakest among them, the mere fact that the topic of conversation revolved around wounded individuals heightened her sense of unease.
“I have someone who is wounded.”
Her eyes widened in alarm as she realized the implications of their words. The possibility of being chosen as the wounded rogue suddenly became all too real. The realization sent a jolt of fear through her, and her inner wolf stirred with a mix of anxiety and determination.
“No, this can’t be.” Her inner wolf started to communicate with her.
"We will not be chosen," her inner wolf reassured her, its voice a soothing presence amidst the chaos of her thoughts. It spoke with a quiet conviction, reminding her of their inherent strength and resilience. Despite the fear that gripped her, Kirsty clung to the reassurance provided by her instinct, trusting that her inner wolf knew the path to survival.
Her instinct was telling her that something wrong was going on inside. The head was the only one who knew that she was rogue, and she was wounded, and it even caught the head’s attention when she was captivated by his men.
"A rogue? Wounded?" the one-eyed man questioned, his voice laced with intrigue and a hint of suspicion. The revelation had shifted the dynamics of the conversation, drawing his attention toward Kirsty.
"Yes," the head of the warehouse confirmed, his voice tinged with curiosity. "I also wondered why she can't heal her own wounds," he added, his gaze momentarily flickering towards Kirsty, who felt a surge of unease at being singled out.
Kirsty's heart raced, and she silently cursed the circumstances that had led her to this precarious position. The realization that her wounded state had captured their attention sent a wave of apprehension through her. She knew that her vulnerabilities were now exposed, leaving her in a perilous situation.
“Let me see who that rogue is.”
As the one-eyed man's curiosity grew, a determined look etched itself upon his face, signaling his intent to lay eyes upon the wounded rogue. Kirsty's heart pounded in her chest as she realized that her fate was inching closer with each step they took in her direction.
Kirsty started to feel unease and her inner wolf was now howling at her. Her mind is now clouded by a lot of thoughts that she couldn’t think clearly of the possible escape she might think now that they were coming for her. Kirsty raised her guard but she remained to act as weakest as possible because she didn’t want to raise any questions about her sudden change.
