Sandra remembered the day of her wedding and how excited Alex was to sign the marriage certificate. She looked at him with red eyes.
Her eyes were so red as a result of her crying. She had woken up early just to remember her predicament, think about the past and cry.
With tears in her eyes, she stared at Alex who was just looking at air with a frown on his face as she signed the divorce papers.
After signing, a tear dropped as she closed her eyes and said “Done”. She slowly passed the papers to him. Alex spared her no gaze.
“You both have to keep away from each other's privacy right”The barrister reminded them as he stood up. “Yes and you both owe no conjugal duties to one another anymore. I’ll have to go now. Good day”.
Alex stood up and left. “Won’t you drop her off?” Lily asked, looking at his retracting figure. “I’m not the driver”. He said not stopping.
“Ok then, Mr Pete will drop you off then?” Lily said standing up and going to where Sandra sat. “No” he said in aloud disagreeing tone.
“Ok then someone else can drop her then?” She said thinking that her brother doesn’t want his special driver to drop her off.
“No worker and car of line will be used to drop her off. She can take a taxi or cab, I don’t care” he said nonchalantly. He was so naive about the way his words broke Sandra more and more, making her cry.
“You can’t do that!! It’s impossible. Cabs are not allowed in this estate and you are fully aware of that because you gave that order”. She tried explaining as though he didn't know already.
“Alex, before she gets to the main gate, it would be 30 minutes on foot minimum. Can't you please take her?”
She asked calmly as she tried to reduce her annoyed tone. “If you don't drop her, I will follow her to the gate” she threatened when she saw that he wasn't stopping.
Alex stopped in his tract and cursed in his mind. “You dare threaten me?” he asked as he had a dark expression as he stared at Sandra who was crying as though she was Lily.
“It's a guarantee Alex” she briefly said as her heart was pounding in her chest. ‘I forgot to take my medicine again’ she thought as the pain became more than yesterday's.
“Hmm. Get your things in the car. Pete will drop you off” he said as he turned and got into the elevator.
Sandra notices that something is wrong with Lily so she asks, “are you ok?” She gets up to hold her. “I'm fine,” Lily said with a pale smile.
“You don't look fine Lily?” she said, a bit worried. She was worried for her health and also worried of being accused of hurting Lily in Alex's absence.
“I said I am fine” she said, feeling a bit relieved this time. “Ok. Hope it's not the signs of not taking your drugs?” she asked, looking at Lily skeptically.
“I just missed some days out of the plan you and Anna drew for me” she finally confessed after a few minutes of staring.
“That's not good Lily. You have to be up to date with your drugs. Please follow the plan. It would help” she said, holding Lily's shoulder and talking to her like her younger sister.
“Ok, but that plan isn't easy to follow,” she said with a sad expression. “The drugs are so bitter,” she said with a disgusted expression.
“It's for your betterment,” she said as she picked up her hand bag. “I’ll get going now” she said as she went to get her boxes from the corner.
“I’ll help with the others” Lily said as she rolled out the other two boxes left outside. “Good morning Mr Pete, Alex says you should drop Sandra off” Lily said as she looked at the man who is in his late fifties.
“Good morning Lily and Sandra. I have to take permission from him directly, you know the rules,” he said looking at the ladies and the boxes.
“s**t how could I have forgotten,” she said, smacking her forehead in disappointment. “I’ll call him,” she said as she took her phone from her jogger's pocket.
It rang but he didn’t pick up. “He is not picking up” she said looking at Sandra after she had tried it twice. “We’ll wait inside for him,” she said calmly.
Her boxes were still outside so they went in. She took the shades off and sat. She continued lecturing Lily about how dangerous it would be if she didn’t take her pills.
The elevator dinged and Alex came out. He was fully dressed in his black suit. His shoes were neatly polished by Lily. She made sure everything was set so he wouldn’t kill her.
He walked outside and told his other driver to drop her off. He went back in and informed them. “The other driver will drop you off” and he left.
She just smiled and said “thank you” to which she was snubbed. “Why are you thanking him?” Lily said with a frown. “Please let’s go” she said as she was a bit annoyed.
Then they got outside. Alex's orders were being carried out as the boxes were placed in the trunk of the car. They stared at each other as tears were filling their eyes.
As non expressive as Lily is, she put her ego down and hugged Sandra tightly. “I’m going to miss you so much” she said as tears fell from her eyes.
“I’m going to miss you too, but I’m not out of the city yet, you can always visit me anytime” she said hugging her.
“Not anytime anytime though, just let me know when you’re coming” she said as they both burst into laughter from their sad state.
“I’m shocked at how you are expressing yourself now. When I’m around, you won’t show me you love me, but I’m going now and you show me?’ She said as they burst into more laughter with tears still falling from their eyes.
“Take good care of yourself Lily” she said as she disengaged from the hug and went to the back seat of the car.
“Take care of yourself too Sandy” she said as she waved goodbye to her. The car roared back to life and left.
Lily went in and was sniffing and cleaning her face. She got to the second living room and saw Alex still seated with his phone.
She was going towards the elevator. He raised his eyes to look at her. “If you still want to live well in this house, don’t you even dare.”
“If you still want to live well in this house, don’t you even dare think of going to see her in that house.”
“Why?” She questioned as she wasn’t understanding what the issue was. “And when did you start restricting my movements?”
“How did you even kn..” then she trailed off and thought for a second. “You were eavesdropping?” She said in annoyance.
“You sit there and act like you don’t care but deep down you do. You can’t stop me from visiting whoever I want to visit” she said stubbornly.
“Don’t test me Lily” his voice roared in the quiet and spacious room. “Don’t you dare to even think that for one second I’ll let you go there”
He said and then walked away from there. Lily just felt tired of all that was happening. She was on the verge of breaking down.
She went to her room and locked herself inside. “What’s going on?” She asked as she was becoming deeply affected by what was happening.
Her chest started hurting but not that much. She quickly went to her closet and took out the drugs that were in their sachets.
She took her required dosage and went to her bed. “I’ll rest and then occupy myself with something” she planned.
But when she got on her bed, she couldn’t just sleep. “I’m still worried”. She complained as she turned and sat on the bed.
This action made her chest hurt even more. “Ahhh” she yelled in pain as she placed her hand on her chest.
“I’ll have to sleep.” She said as she laid back on the bed gently. “It should have subsided by now” she murmured with a frown as she faced the ceiling. Soon enough, she drifted in sleep but still she wasn’t feeling good…..
