What are you staring at

Amanda We entered the mall and were greeted by two staff who collected Hannah’s bag and bowed their heads while leading her inside. “What do you think a secretary should wear to a firm on her first day?” Hannah demanded. “A corporate suit and skirt or pants…” “And that’s exactly what we’re going for. Pants or skirts?” Hannah turned to me. She seemed to be concluding things without caring about what I said. “Skirts” I muttered and she nodded, her eyes gleaming when she saw the corporate collection. She had a bubbly kind of spirit and it made me smile. “How about this?” She demanded, beckoning for me to work faster. She tossed a hanger to the attendant who grabbed it. She kept checking the clothes and tossing them to the attendant and within minutes, their hands were filled and my eyes widened. There was no way I could change into all these clothes without collapsing. “Let’s go change… That’s the fun part of shopping” She announced as we walked into the empty changing room. One after the other, I tested out all the dresses she had picked out. I would head out each time and get the response of “wow, you have such a great body, this looks good. We’re taking it” or “perfecto! This is so pretty it’d be a shame for you not to rock it outside” She kept complimenting the whole cloth and soon I wore the last one and stepped outside. She dropped her magazine and stood up, clapping and nodding her head. “What can I say? You’re just an epitome of beauty, everything about you screams elegance and gracefulness. Wrap everything up! We’re taking them” She announced and my eyes widened. “Ma’am.. Hannah… No, these are outrageously expensive and I’m sorry I… I can’t accept…” I stuttered, following her as she stepped outside without listening to me. “Make sure you pack it up and put it in my trunk. Send the bill to my office, we’re off” She replied as she stepped out and I was torn between following her in these clothes or going back to change. I was afraid of being left alone as I knew nowhere. Sighing deeply, I followed her outside and had to jog when I saw her step into an elevator. I entered and she pressed the button, making it soar higher. I was rubbing my fingers, wondering what to say and how to start it. “Ha… I… Thank you…” “That’s fine, are you hungry? Let’s go have some food” She pulled me closer and we stepped out when the elevator opened. It seemed like she was well known here because the attendants greeted her with a lot of respect. We went straight and the door opened to reveal a beautiful restaurant. It wasn’t crowded and the ideal color was blue. She led me to a spot that enabled us to see the streets. The view was beautiful and it took my breath away completely. I looked at her and noticed her countenance fell drastically although she faked a smile when our eyes met. “Order what you wanna eat, every food tastes divine, it’s hard to determine the one you’re going for most times” She urged and I nodded. “Why are you sad? Is there something linked to this place?” I muttered, looking at her expectantly and she smiled distantly. “My daughter… I was here with some friends for lunch one day and I saw my daughter out there with a poor guy” She pointed out, like her daughter was standing in the crowd and she could see her. I saw pain and guilt written all over her face and I felt pity for her instantly. “My friends were all shocked, it’s not everyday you see the daughter of a wealthy woman hug a poor boy in public and out of embarrassment, I hurried down and slapped her. She was shocked and wondered how I found out. I asked what she was doing and she told me she was in love with him… I wish I had let her be” Her voice cracked up and I held her hand, rubbing it gently. “What did you do?” “I… I took her home and warned her never to see him…” She sniffed. “She refused and kept seeing him. She couldn’t stop because she found out she was pregnant for him… And then I committed the worst mistake ever, I disowned her because I was afraid of the public finding out my daughter was pregnant for some poor boy. She left in a fit of rage in the night… Her words were ‘I wish you were never my mom… I’d be grateful if I never see your face and I can forget you’ It was like God heard her wish and made it come true” A tear rolled down her cheek as I gasped. “I’m so sorry” I muttered as I stood up and went to hug her, she just sobbed silently. “Then she left the house that night and… And… She got hit by a car… After getting hit, her boyfriend was the one who saved her and after the operation, when I arrived at the hospital… she… she lost the child and” She sobbed harder this time and I patted her, her story was a sad one and I knew she was regretting it. “She lost her memory… Not all but just me… she failed to recognize her family and the week after I went back only to find out they’ve checked out and discreetly left the country… I’ve been searching for her ever since then but…” She choked again. “I’m so sorry… That’s fate but one thing about fate is no matter how long it takes, you’ll surely cross paths with her again” “I’m not asking her to come back to me because I know I lost my right as her mother but I just want her forgiveness… I wish I could go back and change things” “She would forgive you one day and that day, the burden would roll off your back… Is this why you’re helping me? Because our cases are similar?” “I’ve decided to help the streets after I lost her… I wish my daughter would come back…” “It’ll all be fine. I’m not asking you to think of me as your daughter but I want you to think of me as your daughter’s friend whom your daughter asked to keep company… I’ll keep you company till she comes back and I’m sure she would be coming back soon” I muttered and Hannah nodded, hugging me tightly. AARON “Do you need to go?” Mom asked for the hundredth time and I nodded, holding her hands softly. I was trying my best to assure her that I’ll be fine. “I’ll entrust him to a trusted friend, nothing would happen to him… You don’t have to worry too much” Dad intercepted and mom sniffed. “I’ll always worry. If I’m not close to them, I’ll always worry, Theodore and worst of all, they’re going to the human world… It’s dangerous…Theodore… I can’t let him go…” “I’ll accompany him and I’ll make sure he gets to the drama academy safely, you don’t have to worry about him Flora. He’s my son and I’m super worried about him, it’s hard to let him go but he has to chase his destiny” Dad muttered and Mom sighed deeply. “Promise to come back every week?” “Yes mom, I’ll miss you” I replied as we did a family hug and I entered the car with dad and we drove to where the portal was. Alexander followed and he waved to me as we left. “Always be careful and make sure you hide your identity well” Dad advised as we arrived at the human world and I nodded. We walked to the street where we flagged down a taxi and began heading towards a car rental where dad rented a Bentley before we began heading to the mall. Our first goal was to get clothes before heading to the academy. I wanted to fit in with humans without any problems. We arrived at the mall and I saw two figures enter a car… the physique looked like that of Amanda but before I could utter any word, the car sped off. “What are you staring at?”
