“Are you the mother of this brat!” A woman was stomping her feet on the floor, her hands akimbo as she looked very furious. “Brat? My son here isn’t a brat” Amanda replied, pulling Bennet closer as she wondered what was wrong and why a mother would be looking menacing on a Monday morning. “This thing isn’t a brat! He’s not just a brat! He should be put behind bars! He doesn’t deserve to attend this school! I want him expelled!” The woman who was decked in jewelry from head to toe yelled. Teachers had begun to gather but none was willing to butt into the fight. They knew Mrs Anna, she was the second wife of a rich man and never failed to flaunt her wealth. Her husband being a man who got away with things, she used her power to oppress people and would treat people badly, some teachers were getting afraid of what she would do to Amanda. “Excuse me ma’am, that’s such a harsh thing to say… May I know the reason for this unruly behavior?” Amanda replied and Anna raised a brow, surprised that Amanda could talk back. She was even more shocked that Amanda wasn’t afraid of her. “I’ll deal with you” She muttered under her breath. “This thing…” “If you would use the word thing then I’ll have to excuse you because I have work and I’m not about to waste my morning listening to you talk about a thing” Amanda replied, ready to walk out and Anna’s mouth dropped. “He beat up my son! How dare he touch my baby!” Anna yelled, attracting more stares and Amanda’s eyes darted to the fat boy beside his model looking mother, he was a bit scared and Amanda raised a brow, wondering how her son could beat up a child that was almost twice his size and taller than him. “Beat him up? Do you know what you’re saying…” Amanda was defending him but he pulled her hand and she bent to his level where he whispered some words in her ears and she nodded. “You see! He knows he has done something…” Anna yelled and Amanda smiled coldly, the type she gave to murderers in the courtroom. “What did your son do to get beaten? Aren't you ashamed of yourself? Coming to the school very early to start an argument for your son’s misdeed” Amanda replied, stepping closer and Anna who was expecting her to apologize was stunned. “What? Do you know who I am? How dare you! You should apologize to me this instant or I’ll get him expelled from this school” Anna threatened and gasps rang in the air. Everyone was shocked that Amanda wasn’t afraid of her. “Who are you ma’am? Your son here bullied a fellow student and went as far as throwing his snack into the bin and all my son did was correct your son when he didn’t apologize… I don’t give a f**k about who you are but I think it’s better to train your son well and have him stop bullying students” Amanda replied and Anna’s eyes almost popped out. “What? And so what if he bullies a child? The child must have offended him!” Anna defended and Amanda smiled. “Now I know the type of mother you are and I’m not going to waste my precious time in battling words with you. You should be ashamed for raising your son this way and how do you feel coming here early to say your son was beaten by my son? Doesn’t it irk you, your son is twice his size and taller but a big bully and weakling… You should bury your head in shame, excuse me…” Amanda replied as she brushed past Anna with a frown and led Bennet to his class. “You shouldn’t get into fights with anyone… Your mom is a lawyer but she wouldn’t defend you if you’re at fault okay? Stay outta trouble please” Amanda whispered and Bennet nodded before walking inside. Amanda stared at him and just smiled. He was weird but very special and unique. She walked out and entered her car, glancing at Anna who was beside her car and ranting with anger. “Honey! Someone just disgraced your son and me in public! The humiliation!” She smiled when she heard Anna’s absurd words. She pulled out her phone as she wheeled her car out, luckily she was still early and had some time to go through her schedule. She had a case to defend, an appointment with a fellow lawyer, a few other things to do but over all, her day was fully booked and there was dinner with Ryan and she was going to accept his proposal after all these years. Time to move on! Holding her bag, she walked inside, her heels clicking to announce her arrival. Heads turned when she entered. She was the youngest lawyer in the firm. She started like a wildfire, working very hard and up till that she’s at the top floor, she’s not relenting but going even faster. The men in the company both seniors and juniors, hovered around her. She was a beauty and everything about her attracted people. “You look lovely!” “Beautiful as always!” “Stunning” She heard them whisper and smiled faintly. It was a Monday and she wanted to take the day seriously, on other days she’d give them the best smiles and sway her hair. “When is my meeting with the lawyer?” She asked her secretary, Jane, who had approached her with coffee as she was about to end her office. “Something came up and your schedules have been pushed back…” “What is it?” Amanda demanded, placing her bag on the table. “Mr Oliver has to go for an impromptu seminar today and he has a client, he was supposed to have checked the case since last week but for some reason he never got the chance and now his client is furious and you’d have to help him out or he’ll change firms” Jane explained and Amanda shook her head. She hated clients who threatened to change firms when their demands weren't met. “This is for a star who was accused of r**e, although he isn’t guilty of anything because both were drunk and he never touched her, she’s still threatening to leak this to the press to create a scandal” Jane read out and I shook my head. “It’s a no! First I don’t do celebrities and their scandals, second it’s not a meaningful case. Why should I defend a drunk individual?” Amanda cut off. “Yes, I told him that but he insisted you take it, you’re the only one he trusts with his clients. He said you’re not interested in competition and you’re by far the brightest mind we have. Also you’re just going to discuss with his manager and try to find a way to convince the girl or threaten her not to create any scandal” Jane said why she had heard and Amanda laughed. “Of course I’m the brightest kind now that he’s not willing to lose his client. All the flattering just for me to take the job. I know nothing about convincing females, I’m not interested…” “It’s just for thirty minutes, he really pleaded for you to take it and his client is in his office, waiting for you” Jane muttered and waited for Amanda to lash out. “What! They’re here already… Then give them someone else… I’m…” “Everyone is presently occupied so that leaves us with you…” “Fine, let’s go!” Amanda retorted, getting pissed as she walked out of her office and headed towards Oliver’s. She entered his office to see a tall man, decked in designers stomping his feet on the floor impatiently. He scowled immediately as she walked in. “AR and I won’t take this nonsense! You kept us waiting for a very long time and now you strut inside like everything is alright!” He ranted and she glanced around calmly, there was no use in arguing with a furious person. “Please have your seat, where is AR and can I get an explanation of how he got drunk. I haven’t had time to go through Oliver’s file” She replied leaving his manager stunned. “How insolent! AR is definitely changing firms! He has been using this firm for years and you’re treating him like trash!” His manager ranted and the door opened. “AR! This is the woman who kept you waiting” Amanda went stiff instantly… She didn’t need to look back to know who it was because his scent was stronger than ever before.
