*Will* “Oh, no,” Millie says. It’s almost a whisper, yet I hear it over all the screams on the deck. I follow Millie’s gaze to the ship’s bow, which is already underwater. The eerily haunting sounds of steel buckling under pressure have become louder, the ship’s tilt steeper. I have only moments to help her escape. With no lifeboats in sight, I look into her eyes, my heart aching at the fear in them. I have to protect her and get her off this ship safely, somehow. She has helped save so many people tonight, selflessly insisting on going back down below decks time and again to be sure everyone has a fighting chance. Yet, I fear for her fate.
