chapter 31

Lauren’s pov, I couldn’t sleep that night, but beside me Ezra was having a blast, he slept comfortably as I watched his breathing ease in slow and steady, his body relaxed in ways mine refused to be. I had turned from side to side as the sheets underneath me twisted from my restless movements. Every single time I closed my eyes, my mind had always said no to my request. My thoughts became crowded as the event from the evening replayed in my head, from how Ezekiel had proposed to me joining him and how my husband had dumbly agreed. I rolled again and again, until my gaze caught the faint glow of the morning sun creeping through the curtains. The sun was barely awake, but my eyes were wide open and it lacked rest. With a quiet sigh, I pushed myself up as I tried hard not to wake Ezra.
