Caspian
After leaving her in my room I went straight to the nearby guest room to take a cold shower. Shedding the layers from my body I stood under the shower. My muscles relaxed as soon as the water made contact with my body.
F**k, I punched the wall making the tile break. How can she affect me in this way? I swore I would not take a mate but she…….
With frustration, I walked out of the shower and dried myself before I stepped into the room where my clothes were already placed on the bed. After getting ready I went straight to the living room.
“ How was the training?” I asked.
“ It went well, Alpha,” Liam replied.
“ Good.”
I took a seat on the couch and they followed the suite one by one.
“ How's everything going on, on the border?” I asked. I can't delay everything for one person whose origin is still unknown. My wolf growled in my head in protest.
“ Everything seems normal,” Liam replied.
“ I have talked to the warriors. They said everything is good,” he added. That made me think that this normal is the quiet before the storm. I hope I am wrong.
“ How's the council? Did they make any move?” I asked.
“ Not yet,” Damien said after a moment.
“ How's the preparation going on?” I asked. No matter how much I try to distract myself there is one thing that invades my mind.
“ Everything will be completed by tonight. And the alphas will be here by tomorrow evening,” Liam said. I gave him a nod.
“ Can we call lily for breakfast?” Liam asked. After giving it a thought I spoke.
“ If she wants to join,” I said and got up from the couch making my way towards the breakfast table.
Jace became restless all of a sudden and began to pace in my mind.
“ Is everything alright?” Damien asked.
“ Yeah. Why?” I asked looking up from my plate.
“ Your eyes……. Your wolf is surfacing,” he replied, looking at me with utter confusion.
“ Huh,”
And then it hit me like a truck. I shot up from my seat scraping the chair against the floor as I took a long sniff before a growl rumbled in my chest.
“ Caspian,” Damien stood up, rushing to my side. When he tried to touch my arm, I growled at him with warning.
Jace's voice echoed in my head and I let my feet drag me towards that delicious scent that filled the air.
My mind was in a daze and everything faded away before I could know where I was going. I found myself standing outside of my room.
No no no. This can't be happening. I shook my head in denial. I know what this is. I know what this scent is. But I can't seem to resist the pull.
My hand rested in the handle of the door. The grip became so tight that my knuckles turned white.
That stranger inside the room is my mate. Now everything is falling into place. My mind is screaming to turn around and go back, go far away from her but the pull and Jace is making everything difficult.
“ She is our mate,” he growled loudly.
“ I won't accept her,” I retorted back.
“ I will. She is my mate. And I need her as much as she needs me,"Jace said.
I pushed the door open and entered my room. My breath knocked out of my lungs when my eyes fell on her standing at the foot of the bed only in a towel wrapped around her chest.
F*ck my luck I cursed but couldn't help my eyes from roaming.
Sensing my gaze on her she turned around only to be startled by my presence. Clutching the towel tightly she sat down looking at me while the colour of her face was completely drained.
I closed the door behind me and took two steps towards her.
“ You are my mate,” I said looking into her eyes. For a moment she didn't react, she just sat there dumbfounded. Then her eyes went big, her lips parted when she realised.
“ What?” Her voice came out as a whisper.
“ Get dressed, we need to talk,” I said before turning around.
“ Wait,” her soft voice stopped me when I was about to step out of the room. I didn't turn to face her.
“ Get dressed,” I said, before she could say anything and got out of the room, closing the door behind me.
“ Damien,” he was leaning against a pillar looking my way.
“ Clear my schedule for the day,” I said walking towards my office.
“ She is your mate, isn't she?” He figured.
“ Yes.”
“ Take your time, Caspian. Don't ruin beautiful things,” he said walking up to me.
“ I will not accept her as my mate,” I said, clenching my fists. I feel like everything is slipping away through my fingers again.
“ Not everyone is the same. Maybe you should give this a chance,” he added.
“ Stay out of it, Damien,” I said and walked away.
I linked one of the omegas to go to her with some clothes and called me when she was done.
Now it is time to maybe call every pack myself to see if there were any people missing from their pack.
“ You will not do such a thing,” Jace warned.
“ I will not take her as my mate,” I growled.
“ She is mine too!”
That was the last thing I heard from him before he retreated in the back of my mind and shut me out completely.
I tried to bury myself in the paperwork but after waiting for two hours my patience ran out.
“ Is she ready?” I asked the omega through the link.
“ She is,” the answers came quickly.
I got up from the chair and walked out of my office towards my room taking long strides.
This was not supposed to happen after all these years. And now that it did, it's time to fix everything.
My chain of thoughts broke when I realized I was standing in front of the door. I knocked once but there was no response then I knocked again.
“ Come in,” her voice came from the other side of the door.
Without wasting any time I pushed the door open and stepped inside. I stopped in my tracks when I saw her sitting on the floor.
Her knees were pulled against her chest as her head was resting on them. She looked so small.
“ What are you doing?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. She didn't lift her head to look at me and it somehow bothered me.
“ We need to talk,” I said and she finally lifted her head to look at me.
Her eyes were red and puffy. She has been crying. She didn't say anything and just obeyed my orders like a robot. Walking past me she went to the couch and sat on it.
“ Do you know I am your mate?” I asked, walking up to her.
“ No,” she said, her words didn't shake nor her voice tremble. She just sounded hollow and tired.
“ I have lost contact with her. I couldn't reach her,” she added quietly.
“ jace recognised you as our mate.”
She didn't react, she just sat there still. She didn't even look at me even after knowing I am her mate.
“ But I can't accept you, my mate,” I added.
She said nothing after a beat, she only nodded her head. I gritted my teeth watching her reactions.
“ What do you want me to do?” She said lifting her head looking at me in the eye.
“ I can leave if you want, or I can reject you……. She paused.
“ You can stay in this pack as long as you want and no you can not reject me right now without your wolf,” I said, the words tasted like ash on my tongue.
“ But I won't stay in this room,” she said and I nodded my head. There is no reason for her to stay in my room too and her mate is rejecting the bond.
“ You are free to do everything a member of my pack does. You can train with them, you can help them out if you stay in your room,” I added.
“ Thank you Alpha,” she said, bowing her head in respect but it annoyed me.
“ that will be all,” I turned. I couldn't stay in the room because her scent was suffocating me.
“ Did you find out from which pack I belonged to?” She asked, making me half.
“ No.”
“ But I will soon,” I said.
“ There will be a ball tomorrow night. If you want you can join,” I said and left the room. But before I got out I heard a silent sob escaping from her lips.
