Chapter 1: Finished
Chapter 1: Finished
Anna‘s POV
Taking the longest breath my lungs could hold, I face the department of education appointees with anxious eyes. I had just finished delivering my masters thesis about secondary education and the importance of leadership within schools, and I was waiting to be approved for my degree. Looking at each pair of eyes, I start to get nervous.
How long has it been? Why are they taking so long?
Dr. James, the head of the entire department of education, clears his throat and looks at me dead in the eye.
“So Miss Jacobson, how do you think you did?” He asks me with an unreadable expression on his face.
“Oh...uh...well I think that my delivery of my reasonings could have been more confident. I...uh....also think that I provided the right evidence to support my claim” I say nervously while also picking at my nails.
Jesus what kind of question was that?
Mr. James looks at his colleagues and with the slightly head nod to each of them, he turns back to me.
“Anna, we think that you have created a great thesis. By far one of the best we have heard this semester” he says with an glimmer in his eyes and a wide smile on his face. “Our only request is that you celebrate tonight and be happy that you will receive your masters degree. Congratulations!” All of the appointees stand up and begin to clap.
At this moment, I am shocked. I bend down from my knees and start to cry happy tears. I have worked for over 5 years to earn this degree. It took me longer because I paid for this with my own money while also working as a full time teacher at one of the local high schools. The overwhelming feeling of pride and happiness run through me like a rocket and bursts out of me in an instant.
“Thank you so much!” I say with a sob and smile. “You have no idea what that means for me, thank you for your guidance and leadership!” I say for the final time and walk up to shake each of their hands. After expressing my gratitude and thanks for each of the department heads, I gather my things and head out to the campus. Walking with my bag on my shoulder, I still can not believe that I did it.
Getting to my car, I call my best friend and long time teaching partner, Gianna.
“Hello?”
Before I could answer back, I start crying again.
“Oh girl! What happened?! Tell me their names and socials, because I’m going to murder some folks tonight for failing you!” Gianna proclaims into the phone. I could hear her gathering her stuff and getting into her own car.
“No, its not that....I passed!” I say with a snuffle. Wiping my noses on my sleeve, I start laughing because of her reaction.
“OMG THATS GREAT!!” I have to pull the phone away from my ear because of her screams, ironically I still hear her faint “Sorry” to the bystanders near her who experiences that unfortunate siren call, which focus me to smirk to myself. Typical Gianna.
“G, I was told to celebrate tonight. Dr. James ordered it after I was finished with my thesis delivery.”
“Ohhhh girl! You know we are going to hit the hottest hotel in all of Sin City baby! Can Doug come along too?”
“Absolutely! He is always invited to a girls night! I’m leaving the campus right now, be ready by 7, I’ll swing by and leave my car at your place.”
“Alright sounds good....And Anna?” She says with a light-hearted tone.
“Yeah?”
“Congratulations bestie!” She hangs up the phone with a loud scream that could probably blow out someone’s ear drum.
Laughing to myself, I place my car in gear and drive home.
