Part 1:The Heart to Kill
The rain poured relentless over the lonely cemetery as eighteen years old Kai knelt before three unmasked graves. Every year,on the same day,he returned to mourn the family he believed had being stolen from him.
His parents.
His two brothers.
The only people he had ever loved.
Flashback
Kai was only eight years old when his world came crashing down.
It had been a peaceful evening, his mother was preparing dinner while his father laughed with his two brothers in the sitting room. The house was filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting feeling that nothing could ever go wrong. Then, the light suddenly went out. A heavy silence settled over the house. Kai’s father immediately stood up. Everyone stay together,he said, his voice calm but alert. Before anyone could react, the front door burst open with a deafening crash. Masked men dressed in black rushed inside. Gunfire erupted. The sound echoed through the house like thunder. Kai,run his father shouted. Frozen with dear,Kai couldn’t move. His mother grabbed him and pulled him behind a large cabinet. No matter what happens, she whispered through trembling tears, don’t come out. Kai covered his mouth to stop himself from crying. From his hiding place,he watched helplessly as his father fought to protect the family.
His older brothers tried to shield their parents, but they were quickly overwhelmed. The house descended into chaos. Furniture shattered. Windows exploded. Smoke began filling the rooms. Kai squeezed his eyes shut, but he could still hear the terrifying sounds around him. Then everything went eerily quiet. A few moments later, flames began spreading through the house. His mother’s final words echoed in his ears. Run,Kai…live.
Summoning every ounce of courage,Kai crawled from his hiding place and stumbled toward the back door.
Before escaping,he turned around one last time.
Through the smoke and fire,he saw the silhouettes of his parents and brothers lying motionless. A cry escaped his lips. Mum!Dad!
But the tears drove him back.
Tears streaming down his face as he ran into the dark forest behind the house, barefoot and terrified. He kept running until his legs gave out. Curled beneath a large tree,he cried until he couldn’t cry anymore . To young Kai, only one thing remained in his heart. The image of the family he loved and the desperate belief that someone had stolen them from him forever.
Behind him stood an elderly man dressed in a black overcoat, his silver hair dripping from the rain. His piercing eyes never left Kai. His name was Don vittorio Moretti . One of the most feared mafia bosses in Europe. To the world,he was a wealthy businessman.
To the underworld,he was death itself. Kai wandered through the streets his clothes were stained with ash and mud, and tears streamed down his face as he whispered the same words over and over. Mum ……dad………please don’t leave me……
Exhausted he collapsed beneath a large tree. Hugging his knees tightly. Every time he closed his eyes,he saw the flames swallowing his home and heard his mother’s desperate voice telling him to run. Hours passed, just before dawn, the sound of footsteps echoed across where Kai sat,he looked up in fear. An elderly man dressed in a long black coat emerged . His sliver hair was neatly combed and he carried himself with quiet authority. My child……Kai immediately backed away as the man came close to him. Don’t hurt me!he cried. I’m not here to hurt you. Kai stared at him through tear filled eyes. Where are my parents? I tried to save them, the man replied. Kai’s lips trembled.you…say them?the old man nodded. I arrived late. Kai broke down in tears. They …they told me to run. He gently placed a hand on the boy’s shoulder. You were very brave. I couldn’t save them……Kai sobbed. There was nothing you could have done. Who did this? Kai asked. The old man’s expression darkened as though remembering something painful. A very powerful family. Kai looked at him desperately, why? Kai clenched his tiny fists,I hate them. The old man’s eyes gleamed for a brief second. Exactly what he wanted to hear. He pulled a folded photograph from his coat and showed it to Kai. One day,the old man replied when you’re strong enough to……you’ll make them pay. Kai wiped away his tears. I will I promise the old man smiled. Good. He removed his coat and gently wrapped it around the shivering child. Come with me,I will take care of you. Kai hesitated for only a moment before taking the old man’s hand. He believed he had found a guardian.
You have cried enough said the old man Don vittorio Moretti. Kai slowly stood. I’ll never stop until I destroy the people who murdered them. Don vittorio smiled.
That’s exactly why I chose you.
