The Bride Has Escaped
Elsa wasn't making sense. First, she said the man I grew up with wasn't my father, then she said my father was somewhere living his life, and now she was saying I was getting married to some 10-year-old.
"What 10-year-old?" I stuttered.
"That 10-year-old is now a rich and famous man that every girl in the country wants. You should be lucky…" Elsa said, rolling her eyes.
"I don't know what to say… I can't even move," I stuttered. I just received the shock of my life, and I felt numb. I grew up knowing Mr. Leo as my father, and now this! Everything was flashing in my eyes. The maids were busy trying to get the dresses ready, and I stood there in shock. Elsa, on the other hand, kept giving me cold shoulders. Her eyes met with mine, and I walked to where she was.
"Elsa… This is a prank, right? You are here to take me home, right? Please… it has to be a prank," I wept. I felt a grasp on my arm; it was one of the girls. She held my hands and sat me down.
"On behalf of my family and me, this will be the last time you will be referred to with our family name. Because your father abandoned you, obviously you can't use his name, you will now be married into the 'Matador Family.' Best of luck." Elsa looked at me one more time, and she walked to where I was, and she gave me a hug, but her intentions were to whisper in my ear.
"You are entering a deadly deal marrying him, but what choice do you have? None." She snickered and walked out. Tears started to roll down my eyes freely. My whole world just came crashing down before my own eyes. I didn't know how to react or what to say.
"You can't keep crying. We are about to start your makeup now, and all this crying will ruin your makeup," one of the maids said.
"I don't want to get married. Please… help me escape," I cried out. The ladies stood ready to start the makeup on my face, but I wasn't going to allow them because I had no idea who I was getting married to or who he was.
"We can't do anything on her face if she keeps crying," one of the maids said.
"Well, we will have to do it the hard way then."
"Please, please, just let me go home," I stuttered.
"Go home? Didn't you hear her say they aren't your family? For now, you have no family, and it will be best for you if you just cooperate and let us get this over with. You are just a child of circumstances, and from birth, your destiny was already sold to someone to take control of, so get a grip on yourself!" She yelled at me, and for some reason, I was calm not because I wanted to be but because I was processing what she had just said to me. It was true; my life was already a mess, and there was nothing I could do about it.
In less than an hour, my face makeup was done, and they took me to the mirror. But I didn't see a girl that was excited because she was getting married; I wasn't a happy bride. I had no idea how I got here. The last time the cloud seemed bright to me was on my birthday, the same day it got dark. I was paying for a debt I knew nothing about; my so-called biological father was somewhere enjoying the wealth he used me as a price to achieve. Although I didn't want to accept reality. I hated him already.
In no time, I was ready. I could tell just with my looks that it was going to be a big and luxurious wedding. I had already accepted my fate that today I was going to be married. Everything was happening so fast that I didn't even have time to recollect everything Elsa had said. Today I was going to be wedded to this man, and I had nothing to do about it.
"Who is the groom?" I ask, my voice barely audible.
"Who am I getting married to?" I asked again.
"Didn't she just say, the Heir of the Matador Empire, his father arranged this marriage for the both of you… He had to divorce his wife to be married to you." This response made me shiver; he was married before and because of me, they had to divorce. It got me thinking about how important this marriage was and why they would go so far.
"What about the little girl?" I asked.
"Ohhh… That's his daughter; he had her with his ex-wife," she said.
"What exactly am I getting myself into.." I sighed.
"We are done here; you can stay here and wait for the driver to take you to the event hall. It's on the top floor; you can't escape because someone is going to notice you, so I advise you stay here and wait," the head of the maids said, and they all left. I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my reflection. I looked so beautiful in the dress, but my heart was bitter. My wedding day was supposed to be the happiest day of my life just like I dreamt and imagined it to be, but this was just the worst day of my life.
"Wow… You turned out more beautiful than I thought…" I heard the little girl's voice, and I turned to look at her. I understood why she sounded so cold to me; she must've known that her parents divorced because of me, and I felt bad.
"I can help you escape without anyone noticing," she voiced out, and I immediately turned to her direction. I walked slowly to where she was, and I whispered.
"How?" I whispered, and she sighed.
"It's easy, through a safe I use whenever I need to leave the house. It's the basement where my mom used to keep her artwork; the room has been locked for a while, and my mom left the key with me." She replied.
"How old are you?" I asked, surprised at her intelligence.
"Does that matter? Do you want to escape or not? Frankly speaking, I think you should escape because my dad will make your life miserable because he had to divorce my mom to get married to you. Plus, I don't like you, and I want you to leave. That's the only reason I'm helping you, so do you want to escape?" She asked.
"What if I get caught?" I stuttered.
"Trust me… I won't even let them see you," she said, and I nodded.
"Okay… I'm in," I whispered.
After some time, the maids came back to get Lela ready to march in. The guests and the groom were waiting for her big entrance on the rooftop, so the maids were assigned to bring her. They swung the door open and found only the wedding gown on the floor. She had escaped.
"Search for her everywhere!" She alerted, and they started to search for Lela. After minutes of searching everywhere, they decided to deliver the news to the groom and family.
"The bride has escaped!"
