CHAPTER 3- JUST FOR WORK

2137 Words
ZACHARY Two weeks and 2 days is the amount of time Kygo has been driving me crazy. Yesterday, at a meeting with a new pack, he decided to take control of my human body and almost started a fight with a warrior because he joked that probably my mate is dead and that's the reason I could not find her. "Are we there now?" "No, and stop asking it every two seconds, Kygo. We will arrive soon at the airport and your asking isn't going to make it faster." "I want to run there, we are way faster than this car." "First we are in the middle of a human city, impossible for us to do it. Second, you don't deserve a run with your new behavior." "What behavior?" "What behavior? Really! Let's start with how you keep all day complaining about a mere human or the last fight you almost put us in. That pack is the one with great trackers and you decided to almost go berserker about a dumb comment that it's possibly true." "Don't you dare! You know it isn't true! And besides the comment, I know it's a lie, as do you. But what drove me wild is that after that he said that our mate couldn't possibly be more attractive than his daughter. Did you see the girl? He was so average, nothing compared to our perfect mate, how he dared to speak about our mate that way, and…" "Stop! Stop saying OUR mate! She isn't, okay? You love the way she smells, so what? Great deal. I also love how apple pie smells, but there's no way I have an apple pie or a human as a mate. So stop making me crazy or I will take back my word to you about going to see her. Did you get the message?" "Yeah," I saw him roll his eyes. "That's it, go to the back, I will cut the link for a while." I pushed Kygo's presence to the back and just stared out the window, hoping that the traffic jam disappeared. -White car! Kevin shouted as he punched Nelson on the arm. -If you punch me again I swear I will leave a scar so big on your face, little kids will be afraid of you! I turned to see Nelson grabbing his arm and Kevin laughing. -Come on man! It's just a game to pass time. -It's not fun at all. -It's not fun for you because you chose purple. Who on this earth would decide to buy a purple car? -His car is purple. I said, still looking at the traffic jam. -What? Nelson, I never imagined you would have a car, less a purple car, if someone other than Alpha told me that I wouldn't believe it. -How do you think I get around? -I don't know, I always saw you arriving with Alpha and Nathan. I thought that you would have one of those old things that use wood to move. -Don't be ridiculous. I am not that old! -For me you are! I turned my eyes to the front and saw the car finally entering the private airport. We got down and took the bags. Kevin was almost running and took his phone to take a selfie of himself and the helicopter. Sometimes I forget he is only twenty-eight years old. He is one of the best warriors in the pack even at that young age, but at the same time, he still doesn't know how to make a strategy or follow orders, without adding young crazy ideas and changing things. Nelson is almost my age, but still, he is closer to my beta Nate in age. The ride in the helicopter was silent, but the thought of why, at eighty years, I was still looking for my mate gave me a lot to think about. I used to think that it took so much time because the Moon Goddess assigned to me the most perfect, strong, and intelligent she-wolf ever, but now I'm not that sure of it. The flight was fast. We arrived at the airport where my plane was already waiting. I took my bag and started to walk to the plane shed. -And I was thinking I would have to chase you through the country. I turned around and saw Sabrina, Nate´s mate, standing there with a big smile and a bag on her shoulder. I look back and saw Nelson and Kevin were also in shock, letting me know that they also didn't know of Sabrina's sudden visit. -What? Are we going to stand here all day or are we planning to get on the plane? She started to walk to the plane, followed by Nelson and Kevin. "Kygo, did you know about this?" "Look who's talking to me now…" "Kygo did you?" "No, and neither Red nor Hitch. But Rose is telling me that Sabrina has something to show you in private." We entered the plane and Sabrina kept talking with Kevin about a TV series and some strange theories. When the belt's light was turned off, she arrived at my table and took out a folder from her bag. -So, I know that Kygo is excited about finding someone. She looked at me with teasing eyes. "Yes, she knows? How does she know?" I asked Kygo. "Who cares! Ask her what she knows about mate!" -By the look on your face, I could assume that Kygo is already wondering, right? Well, let's just say I accidentally maybe heard the conversation between Nate and Nelson about how your mister always in control shifted and ran like crazy to a girl. "Zac, she-wolves are scary. I'm happy my mate is human. How could she assume that we were going to be here and know that the girl is our mate?" "Shut up Kygo!" -First, what Kygo says has nothing to do with me. Second, how could you accidentally hear a conversation? You are just the nosiest person I have ever met. Third, it was Kygo's fault. That girl means nothing to me. -But it means something to Kygo, right? Don't worry, I don't care for your answer and you should thank the Moon Goddess for giving you a Betta female who is the nosiest person ever, because I gathered you all this. She pushed the folder to my side. I opened it and started to look at the pictures. "Mate, look its mate!" Some names, directions, more pictures of places, and an invoice from one of the branches with the direction of her workplace. After I read each paper, I gathered everything and started to put it back in the folder. "Don't! Please, let us keep that photograph." I was not paying attention to what I was putting in the folder, so I turned to look at my hand and saw a picture of her smiling while walking a dog. -That´s Max, one of her two dogs. You can keep that picture. There are a lot of them. Don't worry. I put it back in the folder. "Why did you put it back, I want it!" I started to feel my skin burn with Kygo´s anger as he was using the alpha king tone with me. -Crazy alpha… Sabrina opened the folder and took the picture out and shoved it in my front pocket. -There! Was it that hard? Just keep Kygo under control. I don't want the plane crashing because someone drove his wolf crazy for a picture. Kygo relaxed and I was able to move freely. I touched the picture in my pocket and felt my heart race. "Kygo, stop doing that." he didn't respond. -So, we will arrive sometime in the afternoon so we could go grab something to eat, and then at 9 pm, I know where we can find her. So we could accidentally be there and you could see her, but… -Does Nate know you are here? -Yes, he is my mate. -Did he send you? -No. -So he doesn't know what you are doing here? Actually, what do you think you are doing here? Didn't you think your alpha needed to know and authorize this sodden visit in the first place? -Zac, what's going on with you? You usually never talk this much... or question actions this much? Nate loves you, and so do I. When I told him I had something important to do, he trusted me. He knows I would never put the pack's interest away for something not important or irrelevant. So he understood that the place I should be was crucial if I was asking to leave the royal pack territory and leave him with the burden to control and train the pack by himself. So do you want me to leave and leave you alone with those two clueless dudes? I didn't know how to respond. Sabrina always had crazy ideas and, yeah, she is nosy, but the pack has always been her priority, and I would always be thankful for that. If Nate trusted her, who was I to doubt? -I thought so. She said as she took out her earphones and started searching for what I assumed was her phone. -May I ask you just one question? I said with the lowest voice possible so Nelson and Kevin wouldn't hear us. I looked back just to make sure they were not paying attention and saw Nelson with earplugs and Kevin singing some Metallica song in his ear. -Yes you may. I saw her face enjoying it, probably a little bit too much. -How did you like.. know, did Nelson or Nate know something.. Do they suspect? Does the parliament suspect? Her face was hard to read, she just stared into my eyes for what felt like forever. I started to panic. What if they already knew, what would they think of their king with his wolf going crazy over a human? Could she be in danger? Would my enemies take her to kill her? Will they use her to get to me? -No, it was just a she-wolf hint, and I thought it was worth taking the risk. A hint that I know now thanks to your expression that it was the right choice. She smiled and put on her earphones. The rest of the flight was quiet except for the half-concert coming from Kevin's mouth. The day passed fast. Kygo was so anxious that Sabrina and I were obliged to be at the bar at eight, so I decided to leave Kevin and Nelson out of this. I had my tablet checking my emails and work, and even from afar, I had to keep track of what was happening between the companies and the relations between packs. -Zac! I forgot to tell you, you must try to control Kygo because she… At that instant, the smell of Casablanca lilies and rain flooded the bar. She entered with her hair in a ponytail, leaving plain sight of her slim pearl neck. She sat in the bar and then she was followed by a guy that sat too close to her for my comfort. "Get him off of her, now!" Kygo screamed and I felt an arm pulling me back to my seat. I didn't even know I was standing up. -Zac, hear me out, my wolf Rose will try to calm Kygo, but I need you to listen to me. Sabrina kept a close grip on my arm, applying enough pressure to make sure I wouldn't move without her giving a fight. "Just hear her fast what the beta female wants so we can kill him." -She doesn't know about werewolves, not a thing, mates or us transforming. That guy right there is her boyfriend. He loves her and cares for her. They have been together for years now. If you kill him, probably she will be traumatized and never forget you, mate or no mate. "Stop that nonsense! She's ours just ours! Kill him now!" "No Kygo, Sabrina is right, killing him will just make her upset and she wouldn't want anything to do with us, because she is not our mate! You just have this weird fixation, and if she doesn't want us close you will drive me crazy, so killing him is out of the question." "Well then, think something fast before I take your body and handle the job my way." -Sabrina, the folder that you showed to me earlier... Do you have it with you right now? -Yes, but I left the pictures in the hotel. -That's okay, I just need some invoices. I got a plan that would keep her at Kygo's side but just for work convenience and my own personal sanity.
