CHAPTER 16 -THE CHEESECAKE

ZACHARY

I woke up to a big headache. My mind was dizzy and my sense of smell was poor. I found Kevin sleeping on the couch and Nelson also rubbing his own head. “How do you feel Kygo?” There was no answer, he must be also with a headache and tired. I walked to the bathroom and saw the door of the girls room. I instantly smiled, my mate is there sleeping peacefully. She decided to stay with us and also started to read more about us, so she could understand us better. I went and took a quick shower. I decided to just wrap a towel around my waist and went out still dripping water. I couldn't wait to see my mate so I open the room door and saw Sabrina sleeping with half of her body out of the bed, and my mate all covered in sheets. “Do you think she is cold Kygo?” He still did not answer, I took one of the blankets of my bed and put it on top of the other blankets. I restrained myself from uncover her head to kiss her. I walked out of the room and laid on my bed. Sabrina opened the room door and walked to the kitchen and sat on the chair. I walked to her.

    -Is Grace already awake?

    -I don't think so, I think she is still sleeping or her hangover is much worse than mine that she is trying to sleep it off.

She was rubbing her head. 

    -Maybe some water would help her.

I went to the fridge and pour one glass of water. I walked to the room and carefully enter, so Belle wouldn't escape. I walked to the bed and sat near Grace.

    -Grace I bring you some water, drink it.

There was no answer or movement.

    -Grace you need to drink water to feel better.

I put my hand in her back but it felt strange. I uncover her head and there were just clothes. I took the whole cover off and it was a pile of clothes in a human form. I looked around and didn't saw Belle. I open the room door and ran outside. The dog’s pen was empty. I was so angry, she ran away! “Kygo lets change to track her down!” There was no answer. I tried to link Nelson but it felt strange, like if I was talking to myself. I entered the RV, and saw Nelson still rubbing his head.

    -Nelson, Try to mind link me?

    -Yes alpha.

I tried to connect also with him but nothing.

    -Alpha I can´t.

Nelson looked horrified. I saw Kevin still laying on the couch.

    -Kevin stand up and bring me water!

I used my alpha tone.

    -I don’t feel like standing up Zac.

    -Nelson what is happening? I can't communicate with Kygo, I can't mind link you, and my alpha tone is also not working!

    -I don't think the problem is only you Alpha, I also can't talk to Hitch. Kevin, Sabrina can you communicate with your wolves?

    -No Nelson, Rose is not responding.

    -Neither Red! What is happening? Did we drank too much alcohol?

    -That’s not possible Kevin. I have studied werewolves’ metabolism and the alcohols shouldn't even give us headache…

    -If I am wrong, and is impossible Nelson, why does my head hurt so bad!

Nelson was walking to the kitchen and then he started to search in the trash. Sabrina walked to her room. Nelson finally stopped his search and took some stems and leafs in his hand.

    -Alpha do you recognize this?

I walked closer and he passes some to my hand. I knew exactly what that plant was, but why is it in the kitchen trash?

    -Why are wolfs-bane stem and leafs in the trash?

    -The real question is were are the petals, there are no petals in the trash Alpha.

The petals of wolfs-bane are the ones that weak werewolves. When consuming them our wolves disappear for some time, if the quantity is not high, and meanwhile we became normal humans. We lose our fast healing, and our sharp senses, also our ability to mind link and to communicate with our wolves.

    -Where is Grace?

I jumped to the sudden voice of Sabrina, without my ability I didn't hear her get near, or smell her. Grace! I forgot about Grace running away with all the commotion!

    -I don´t know but Belle, Max and Milo are also missing.

Sabrina looked at me horrified.

    -Do you think she ran away?

Her question was the same I thought, but why would she ran away, yesterday night when I returned to the RV, she was reading about us, she was so interested she even asked us questions. At the end she said that she would make a cheesecake with wild berries, and walked with Kevin to pick berries. Sabrina opened some wine bottles and everyone had fun. Why would she ran away?

    -I don't know Sabrina, she was happy last night and…

    -Alpha, Nelson, are you sure that is wolfs-bane?

    -Yes, Kevin don´t interrupt me.

    -I have something to say about that.

Kevin rubbed his head and looked scared.

    -When Grace and I were returning with the berries, she saw a plant and asked me what it is and I told her it was wolfs-bane, then she told me that we needed more berries and asked me to go pick more and that she will wait there. I went and picked some more, and then we went back to the RV, but she was alone for some minutes she could pick some of wolfs-bane and…

meanwhile i was hearing Kevin story everything made sense, we ate the cheesecake while drinking, so the wolfs-bane passed as if it was the dizziness from the wine but what it was, was the wolfs-bane making effect. That explained why we had hangover and couldn't contact our wolves! She added some wolfs-bane in the cheesecake! the color of the berries hided the petals! But who did she knew about the wolfs-bane. I turn my sight to Sabrina.

    -But how did she knew about wolfs-bane?

    -Zac, the book I gave her spoke about it. She probably read it there.

    -So the whole night, her smiles... everything was just part of a plan?

    -It looks like it Zac.

Nelson and Kevin didn't say a word.

    -Kevin start the RV. We are searching for her near the roads. Sabrina and Nelson stay here and look for her in the woods. If something happens we will mind link…

    -Phones Zac! Call her!

Kevin was right I took my phone out and tried to call her, but her phone was turned off. “We crushed her phone remember?”

    -Her phone does not work, but meanwhile the wolfs-bane is still in our system let's communicate through our cell phones. Now Sabrina and Nelson out! Kevin start driving.

We looked around the main street, it was far, at least thirty minutes by car, she had two dogs and a cat, she can't possibly be too far. We looked for her for 2 hours until our senses started to come back. I got of the RV and started to try to find her scent. I couldn't communicate with Kygo, but I was already smelling more than before. “Zac I feel dizzy.” “Kygo! you are back! Can we transform?” “I don't know Zac, I do feel bad.” “There are still some traces of wolfs-bane in our system.” “Why is there wolfs-bane in our system?” “Long story but Grace ran away with the dogs and Belle.” “We need to track her down.” I felt Kygo trying to shift, it was painful the wolfs-bane was working against us and the fast healing was till not working so the bone braking was taking more time and pain than planned. Ten minutes were the amount of time I took to completely shift but I was still in pain and couldn't move. When the pain got bearable, I started to walk and sniff the area. Kygo was still exhausted and was in the back of my mind resting. The scent of casablanca lilies and rain appeared and I started to follow it. I walked twenty minutes and ended in the main road. The trace of the smell ended there. “Zac, I think she took a car or something, there is no more of the scent.” I was angry she did ran away and now she is with someone, in who knows where because I’m not sure when she left the RV.

    -”Zac! Rose is back were are you?”

    -”Sabrina, she took a ride. The smell ends in the main road.”

    -”Lets meet in the RV Zac.”

I ran as fast as Kygo’s legs let me. The wolfs-bane was almost disappearing but the strange sensation was still there. Kygo felt a lot stronger, he took control and started to run faster. Arriving at the RV everyone was already there.

    -Everyone can communicate with their wolves?

    -Yes Alpha, the only one that is left for me to check is you.

Nelson walked towards me with a needle. He extracted some of my blood and then pour some transparent liquid inside. My blood turn transparent.

    -Your body is now free from wolfs-bane, your blood responds well to the substance.

    -Thanks for that Nelson. So do we have some clues of where is Grace?

    -She took everyone with her and some clothes, she is trying to go back home to his stupid boyfriend.

Sabrina’s words hurt me. I knew that, but did not want to accept it. Why couldn't my life be more easier, meeting my mate, falling in love, having pups, the parliament and the kingdom happy about it. No the Moon Goddess had other plans, she is a felinet who can actually look human and cat at the same time, she is stubborn as a donkey, she is not afraid of me, she dares to challenge me, she is a determine person and smart enough to deceive the Alpha King, his third in command, the beta female and one of the best warriors. “There's no one better for us than her Zac.” “Yes, she is exactly what we needed Kygo.” I relaxed and sat on the couch.

    -Let´s go back to her city. That's the place she is aiming for.

Kevin reacted to my words and started the RV. The road was long. I tried to understand why does she ran away from me, she has a boyfriend, so what? When a she wolf has a boyfriend that's not his mate and she meets his mate all the love she once fell for the boyfriend feels like nothing compared to the love to her real mate, even though she meet him only a minute, everything changes, gravity changes. Kygo felt just like me, he was depressed mate ran away, he missed her, he felt confused. The ride to the airport was quiet, No one said a word, not even Kygo. We got down of the RV and people started to pack all the things inside so we could take them with us. Sabrina started to make a calls, I was just exhausted so I boarded the plane and put on some headphones, I never listen to music but i rather listen to music than my own thoughts right now. I closed my eyes and let the music flow through my body. Someone pulled my hair back and took my headphones in a very aggressive way. I open my eyes and stand up fast.

    -WHO DID THAT..!

    -Zac, Grace did purchase a plane ticket to her city, three hours ago, the plane just took off if we move fast we will arrive at the same time!

    -What? How did you know that Sabrina?

    -I asked for a favor, they checked her recent purchase with her card, and the plane ticket was there, with extra fees for the pets but still! Tell the people we are going now! We must have her back!

I ran all the way to the entrance of the plane.

    -KEVIN, NELSON, BOARD NOW! WE ARE GOING!

Everyone started to move faster and in ten minutes the plane was moving to take off. my anxiety was high. “Zac, what are we going to tell mate?” “I don’t know Kygo.” What can I do to make her stay with me? The whole flight I think about what I would say, what would she respond, and no scenery in my head ended right. Why must she be so stubborn. The landing had a little of turbulence and we took more time because I asked to land in the normal airport instead of the private one. As soon as the plane stopped I ran through the door to the area of pick up luggage. She was not there but her scent was still there. I ran following the scent and it lead me to the parking lot. As I exited the airport I saw her, I was about to scream her name but I saw her smile like she never did, she left the dog cages and the cat behind and ran. She ran to a brown haired boy and hugged. She shed some tears, he cleaned them with his thumb and then he kissed her. I felt my heart turn to pieces, but literally, a piercing pain struck my chest. I turned my sight to them and she was also grabbing her chest. “The mate bond! She is feeling our pain!” She then looked at me, and fast returned her sight to him. He helped her get in the car, and got the dogs and cat in the car. They drove away. I couldn't move, Kygo was howling in my head and I felt more alone than ever. I heard steps but my body didn't respond.

    -Zac what happened, did you see her? Zac?

I felt Sabrina’s hand in my back. but my body was still frozen, I didn't wanted to think, I didn't wanted to acknowledge what I just saw. I had no strength to move, think or speak. Nelson arrived and he just surrounded me with his arm and forced me to walk to the SUV. I’m not sure what happened, we arrive at the hotel I heard voices. Then I was in bed, and I think I shed some tears, but everything looked so unfamiliar to me so strange, like if it was not my body. I heard the door of my room open and saw a mad Sabrina entering.

    -I don't know what happened, but if you keep up like that she will never come back! Can you believe that I went to her house and she didn't wanted to see me! She send that stupid human to tell me she didn’t want to speak with me! I passed to her house and when I confronted her face to face she said she had nothing to say or do with us! Who do she think she is! But if she sees you, her mate, she will come back! I know that when she sees you everything will be alright!

how do I explain to Sabrina that she indeed saw me and still choose him. The pain got stronger, and Kygo started to howl again.
