1 Month Away
Excitedly, I rush to Mr.Hans class. His class was the last class of the day and today he would be picking his favorite draft of our final to read outloud. Mine was usually the one picked. It was always anonymous so no one knew besides the teacherand I. It was the one place I felt seen for my hard work. My grades were always A's and B's but with Mr.Hans I got the acknowledgement as well.
Rushing through the class door I slam into something solid. My books and papers go flying everywhere. While my datk red curls flung out of my beanie and into my emerald green eyes.
"I'm so sor...." I begin to say as I look up to see a pair of crystal blue eyes looking down at me in disgust. It was the son of beta Alfred, Romin.
"Watch yourself omega." Romin said between gritted teeth. I could tell he wasn't in the mood to deal with the likes of me.
"Yes Romin. I apologize. I will do better." I reply lowering my head and rushing to gather my fallen items before going into the classroom. I sit with my papers and books sprawled in a confused mess on top of my desk as I take my seat.
I was the daughter of an omega. That meant me and my family were practically servents within the pack house. I would wake up around 4am with my father August everyday until school doing chores. During the weekends it would be a toss up of how long it took me to finish. If any extra chores were needed done they were placed on me and my father August. Which usually meant I had little time for school work or sleeping.
"Hello class! Are we ready to hear the lead draft of the final essay!?" Mr. Hans stated loudy while standing up from his desk with a stack of papers. His tussled dark brown hair sliding across his thick rimmed glasses. He looked around at a silent classroom. I slunked into my seat not wanting anymore attention after colliding into Romin, favorite class or not.
"How about you Ms.Scarletr? Do you have a guess on who's story I could have picked?" Mr. Hans say playfully raising his right eyebrow shifting his large glasses in the process so they now sit slightly tilted on his face.
I shrugg stayinf silent as I try to slide even deeper into my desk to make myself as small as possible.
"I have no idea sir" I reply sheepishly after a fee moments. My eyes begin to dart around the room trying to gather everyone's reaction. Everyone was ignoring the fact that I was even called apon. Well, everyone accept for Romin. He was glaring at me with an extra level of destain today. He caught my gaze only to point down to his brand named shoe that was now scuffed. I would have to deal with that once we got to the pack house.
As the son of the beta, Romin lived in one of the lavish rooms of the pack house. He turned 18 last week and shifted which meant he gained his own room away from his family's suit. All of the upper members of the pack had a had their own spot in the pack house.
My father, I, and omegas like us, on the other hand only worked at the pack house. We actually lived in small shack like houses in the woodline of the property. The uppers wanted us close by but never close enough to see us. It did really set the tone of how we were seen within the pack and was drilled into me from day one.
Mr. Hans coughed loudly enough to shake me back into the present. I shake of the feeling of dread I had creeping up my spine, sitting up straight, and giving him my full attention. I could hear the other students shifting their attention and puting their phones away.
"I know it's the last class of the day but lets be present and make the most of the time we have stuck together." Mr. Hans says in a more serious tone.
"Im gonna begin by getting a student to help me pass out your graded drafts." He paused before speaking again.
"Scarlett, you are gonna be in charge of that while I start reading out the draft winner. And remember folkes the winner of the draft gets an extra 10 points added to their final score. No your name won't be called but you should know what you have written correct?" Mr. Hans finishes as I stand up and grab the papers from him to pass around.
Each paper had red marks showing the score and any mistakes in grammar. Some on the papers even had little messages telling them how they can approve. I start passing the papers out as Mr. Hans starts reading out the winning draft. I toon it out focusing more on the task and making sure not to get onto anyones bad side. I already managed to piss off the future beta today.
I get to Romin and I stop for a moment realizing Mr. Hans wasn't reading my story! My heart drops and I can feel all the blood drain from my face. If he wasn't reading my draft who's could it be!?
"Earth to Carrot top! Are you gonna give me my paper or not?"
I jump back startled but hand Romin his paper over streching to reach him. He quicklyand forcully snatches the paper from my hand. This causes me to lose my balance flinging my body forward practically landing in Romin's lap.
Romin grabs me shoulders and steadies me back onto my feet as soon as possible.
"You got a death wish omega 'cause you don't seem like you can keep yourself from crossing me today" He is said in a half growl.
I look around the room not shocked in seeing everyone glare at me. Mr. Hans even went silent. I bow my head,my spiral red curls fall around my sholders covering my pale skin and emerald eyes while doing so.
"No, Romin sir. I apologize. I will take any punishment you think is best." I grovel while not moving my head avoiding eye contact with anyone.
"Now isn't the time for punishments. Now is the time for class. Finish your duties tonight and we will discuss it then" Romin replied waying me off like fly. I rush to finish passing out the papers. Mr Hans continues reading the story as I sit back down at the desk.
I was used to this kind of treatment. It makes me wonder if I will get treated the same way when I shift and find my mate. Will I be stuck waitng on them hand and foot or will they just reject me straight out? I shudder at the thought.
Being rejected would be a high possibility being the daughter of August Lancaster, the rogue the Ash clan took in and his baby girl Scarlett. After being given a sob story about someone in their pack killing my mother, August's wife, they allowed us to join them for protection. Since we were outsiders we are stuck as omegas and work for the pack. My father of course with no other options took the offer and 17 year later here we are. Still working for Mr. Ash and the rest of the pack house.
