CHAPTER 1 The warm glow of the afternoon sun streamed through the window , revealing the cozy sitting room. Two girls are seen in the room , one laying on the couch lazily busy with her phone while the other was seen at the far end of the wall lost in thought. Anna , the other girl that was by the wall stood up immediately staring at her friend. She looked at her keenly, definitely having something to say but for a reason best known to her she couldn't voice out. After summoning courage for a while,she broke the silence, “I'm going to break up with him” she said suddenly earning the attention of the other girl “Who”? Kyla her best friend asked inquisitively You know who I'm talking about, she replied rolling her eyes “Jason” Kyla sighed and dropped the phone she was on and faced her “Don't tell me you're still serious with this decision of breaking up with Jayden, like girl you couldn't even give a good reason for wanting this and you've been with this guy for three good years, she said frustratedly “ I mean this guy is hot, Bad in a way that made girls go insane… she changed the way she was sitting clearly enjoying the conversation “ you and I know how much girls will give to be with him and you just wanna throw that away for nothing” Anna wasn't definitely surprised with the response she got from her friend. Kyla has always supported Jayden anytime she mentions him and it annoys her to the core. “ I knew you were going to say this, " she said annoyingly and rolled her eyes. "It's not like I need your permission or something to break up with him. I just felt we should share decisions as friends. She stood up from where she was sitting and sat with her friend “ i want something more Kyla, I've been with Jayden already and I know how it is but I still… “ Is this about Drake”? Kyla cuts in immediately “The guy you're seeing now? She asked her “why would you even mention drake” “Then I'm right, " Kyla said with a smirk “you're not even denying it . Look it's your life , you can do whatever you want with it, I've had enough of this talk , Kyla said dismissively picking back her phone to continue whatever she was doing on it. “I don't know why you're getting mad about the fact that I'm breaking up with him really, you should be able to trust me, Anna added She was about to reply to her when they heard a knock in the door and they exchanged glances because they were clearly not expecting anybody. Kyla stood up from where she was sitting to check the door, her expression lighting up immediately. It’s Jason!” she whispered with a grin, and Anna glared at her obviously annoyed and used her hands to indicate that she should say she's not around but Kyla ignored her and opened the door instead. Jason stepped in, tall , breathtaking and effortlessly commanding. His presence filled the room the way sunlight did , and he had the kind of aura that is impossible to ignore. His eyes softened the moment they landed on Anna. Anna stood up and hugged him with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes while her body stiffened in his embrace which Jayden noticed but he decided not to say anything about it. Kyla sighed knowingly from the side where she stood and walked toward her wardrobe. “Guess I’ll give you two some space.” she said, causing Anna to break the hug and looked at her suddenly. “Where are you going?” she asked quickly, almost nervously. The idea of being alone with him irritates her to the core. Kyla blinked, clearly surprised with the question she asked. “Um… giving you space? Obviously.” she replied, staring at her suspiciously. Jason tilted his head, studying Anna with a straight face. He kind of understood what she's trying to do and he got angry immediately but he didn't let it show. “You don’t want her to?” He asked her with a calm tone, but his eyes narrowed, sharp and unreadable. Anna let out an awkward laugh sensing the tension “No, no, of course not. I just remembered I’ve got this message from the manager to run back to the restaurant, and I'm already late. I was even about getting ready when you came,right Kyla? She shot her friend a pleading look asking her to cover for her. Kyla sighed. “Yeah, you do, but—” “No buts” she shot back, raising her voice , taking both Kyla and Jayden aback with her sudden outburst. Clearly sensing the tension,she grabbed a tank top and pants in a rush, darted into the bathroom, and emerged minutes later, already dressed. She slipped into her shoes hurriedly like her life depended on it. “I’ll see you guys later,” she muttered before bolting out the house, leaving the two of them watching her retreating figure . The room grew quiet. “I'm so sorry," Kyla said pleadingly, “ she's sometimes like that , rough around the edges ,I hope you are not mad “ she muttered trying to convince him and plead for her. Jason smirked faintly, “Why would I be mad at her? “It's not like this is the first time that she's pulled something like this and besides…” His eyes locked onto Kyla, sharp and softly. “I get to stay here with you, don’t I?” Her breath hitched and different emotions flooded through her body. She found her voice stuck all of a sudden. “What did he just say”? “Um… do you want some watermelon?” she blurted out, desperate to change the subject and find a way to move from his intense gaze. Jason chuckled, taking a seat “Sure.” Her face flustered even more as she rushed into the kitchen, and returned a few minutes with a watermelon cradled against her side and a knife in hand. She set it down and began slicing , her whole focus on it, like that was the only thing that mattered. Jason leaned back, watching her silently. The way her eyes moved up and down, the tiny pout of her lips, the way she was so determined, it was all too cute and distracting. He sighed, forcing himself to look away. This wasn’t the right time to be thinking about things like this, at least not with her. “Are you mad at her?” Kyla asked suddenly, glancing up with her wide, innocent eyes. Jason’s lips curved into a smile. “Why would I be? I “I'm already used to Anna being…….. “Ahh!” Her gasp cut him off immediately. She had cut herself with the knife while cutting the watermelon and the whole floor was filled with her blood already. Jason had rushed panicky to her side as soon as he heard her whimper , before she could even register the pain. He held her finger, his grip firm yet gentle, his whole attention fully on her like it was the only thing that mattered in the world. “You’re careless,” he muttered, staring at her, though his voice was soft. Kyla’s body stilled as his hands touched her skin. She felt the warmth of his body on her skin and her heart started beating fast immediately. She swallowed an invisible lump in her throat but the flutter in her chest refused to settle. Jason looked up to stare at her before he moved to fetch the first-aid box. He cleaned and wrapped her finger where she had cut herself gently,enough not to make it hurt . Kyla sat frozen, staring at him, her mind racing with a lot of thoughts. She couldn't understand her own emotions anymore but she understood that whatever this feeling inside her was … it wasn’t innocent anymore.
