Not dating? If quashing all my hopes wasn’t enough salt to my wound, here I was, listening to him talk to me about his admittedly very adventuring campus life in Germany. All I did was sound impressed, like it didn’t hurt. Why had I been stupid enough to hold on to the hope that one day he would come back and we would become this one happy family?

“So what about you? Got into any relationships?” he shifted the conversation to me. I turned my attention away from Knox who was playing with a couple of the neighborhood kids while Bean, Josh’s German shepherd stood like a staunch guard beside him.
“Wasn’t really into dating that much,” I shrugged it off with a non-chalant smile.
“Why is that? I mean, you are extremely gorgeous,” he gestured at me.
