*VALENTINA’S P.O.V*
We all agreed to an early breakfast today. A way to say goodbye before I leave. I had spent the night before packing my clothes and a few personal items to take with me. I tried not to cry last night as to not upset my family. After all…I agreed to this.
“I guess this is it” I tell myself. I look around and see everything the same. The plants by my window, the calendar on my board, the photos of my family…I wipe a tear away as I look around. My heartache is strong but I can’t let it get to me. By the afternoon, I’ll officially be his fiancé.
“Val! Breakfast is ready!” My brother calls out to me from downstairs.
I leave my suitcases outside my door and wait for the maids to bring them downstairs.
As I walk into the kitchen, I smell the sweet aroma of my mom’s home country coffee. I used to love visiting Argentina when I was little. Playing with my cousins and enjoying the cool breeze under a starry night. As we got older, we would visit less and less. Until we stopped going all together.
“Your favorite” Beta Uriel tells me. “Blueberry crêpes with cubed fruit”.
“Sounds delicious” I tell him. I take my seat at the table as the staff begin to serve us.
To my delight, the conversation is light with Gamma Raymond doing most of the talking. His daughter Felicity joining him at times. Those two are always a delight…especially when one is sad.
“Where’s Samuel?” I ask casually and to no one in particular.
“He’s with my brother Josh” Felicity tells me, “Something about early training”.
I nod as I take a sip from my coffee. I can feel the stares coming from everyone but I continue to eat my breakfast.
I had hoped to see Samuel before I left. Explain everything to him and apologize for hurting him. Being the same age, it was easy for us to get along. By the time we were tweens, we had shared our first kiss together. At the age of fifteen, we were officially dating. Until earlier this year, when the rogue wolves began attacking us. Every effort we made was futile against them. More of our guards were dying as well as the members living by the border. That was until William and his dad offered us protection. In exchange, they wanted my hand in marriage.
“You know how training goes. They run late and time gets ahead of you” Beta Uriel tells me. I know he doesn’t blame me for hurting his son but he hated seeing Sam in pain.
After we all finish breakfast, we head into the foyer to say goodbye. Like clockwork, my mom is the first to cry. She hugs me tightly as she caresses my hair.
“I’ll always visit” I tell her quietly. She nods as she continues to cry into my hair. My father joins our hug as he gently kisses the top of my head.
“You can always count on us honey” my dad tells me, “Be careful”.
Once they let go of me, my siblings run up to me. My older sister Maisie instantly sobbing as we embrace. Camila sheds no tears as she pretends to be strong. She hugs me while laying her head on my shoulder. That’s what I love about Cami, she always knew what I needed. Especially today, I didn’t want anybody crying. Brandon’s eyes swell with tears as we hug.
“Come here sweetie” Beta Uriel’s wife Penelope tells me. Her and beta Uriel pull me into a tight embrace as they say goodbye.
“Make sure they know you love crêpes” Gamma Raymond jokes. He and his wife Ayame hug me as tight as they can.
“Here!” Felicity hands me a handmade woven bracelet. “I made it for you!” She excitedly tells me. We hug as I hear the front door bell ring.
The maid opens the door and in walks William.
“Good morning” He says whiles smiling. He shakes hands with my parents before moving onto the beta and gamma.
“Are you ready love?” He turns to tell me.
In an instant my stomach turns as he calls me love. I wish there were an easier way to solve our problems but fate has a cruel way of getting me.
“Ready” I tell him while giving him my best smile. He hold his hand out and I take it.
We walk to the entrance where a black Escalade awaits. Two guards walk past us with my suite cases. While they put them in the back, I turn to look my family and pack. They all give me their best smiles while hiding their sadness. I look beyond them and see Samuel standing by. I can’t see his face but I can tell it’s him and Josh. My heart sinks at the sight of my ex boyfriend. He didn’t want to know my version of this story. He didn’t know I was doing this for our pack, so that our people would be safe. To him, I was marrying someone else. I see him walk away with Josh following behind.
“Thank you”, William tells the guard who opened the door to the car.
I wave to my family and pack before getting into the car with William following behind. Once the door closes, they retreat back inside. The car pulls away and my pack gets smaller and smaller.
“We’ll get back in time for breakfast” William tells me as he takes my hand.
“I actually had breakfast with my pack before-“
William holds up his hand for me to stop talking.
“We’re having breakfast” He states firmly.
It’s like I thought… he wants me to be the silent obedient wife. His phone rings and he’s quick to pick it up. I don’t mean to eavesdrop but with wolf hearing it’s impossible not to. Him and some guy named Aaron go back and forth between a business deal they are trying to close. It sounds intense as Aaron raises his voice at times.
The ride to his pack has me on edge as this will be my new home from now on. Mentally, I take note not to overstep. I don’t need enemies within this pack. Finally the driver pulls into the territory where three more guards wait for us.
I step out of the car and admire the beauty that is Silvercrest Moon Pack. Their territory is even bigger than I had imagined.
“Alpha, Luna.” A maid bows to us before following us into the mansion.
I hold William’s hand for safety as we enter the dinning room.
“Call everyone down. I want to enjoy our first breakfast together before I leave for work”, he tells the maid. She nods and heads upstairs.
Before everyone comes downstairs, he takes his seat at the head of the table and ushers for me to sit next to him on his left. I obey as I hear footsteps approaching us.
“Miriam, make sure my coffee has almond milk this time” His sister Tamara barks orders at the maid. She doesn’t even look at the woman as she yells at her.
“How was your ride to that small pack?” His mom asks in a snobbish manner.
“It was fine. The weather is fair” I interject. As long as I’m around, she won’t insult my pack. Ever.
She gives me a death glare as a little girl snorts. Even his dad holds an amused look on his face.
“It was fine mother” William tells her quickly.
The maids serve the breakfast as I feel how full I am. Omelets, sausages, avocado toast, hash browns and various sliced fruit. I don’t think I can eat all this, not after this morning.
Reading my thoughts, William tells the maids to stop serving me.
“Please bring my fiancé a chamomile tea”.
I give him a genuine smile as I don’t want that food going to waste. 10 minutes into breakfast, a young boy around my brother’s age strolls in. His wavy brown hair neatly parted as his pale blue eyes take a look around.
“Sorry I’m late” The young guy says, “Training ran late-“.
“Just sit” Tamara hisses. She looks even more annoyed than ever.
“I’m Austin” The guy says extending his hand to me.
I take his hand and shake it, “Valentina”.
“He’s my younger brother and-“ William is cut off by the little girl.
“I’m Genevieve! But you can call me Jenny” The little girl excitedly tells me.
After every seat is filled, I realize it’s just us eating. No Beta or Gamma family. The maids wait to the side in case they need to serve us more food.
“Are you going to the office today?” His dad asks William.
“Yes but I have to swing by Aaron’s office and pick up a file” William tells him.
“What about you dear?” His dad asks his wife.
“I’m going to visit Darlene after breakfast” His mother tells her husband, “She has some suggestions for this Friday”.
“Mother” William clears his throat, “This is our wedding” He points between me and him.
“I’m just-“
“I only want Valentina’s input in this” he tells her firmly.
“Fine!”
Like a child, former Luna Eloise throws her napkin on her plate and storms out of the room. I suppress a laugh that’s threatening to escape me. How can a grown woman act like this? Throwing a tantrum when she doesn’t get her way?
“She’s just trying to help!” Tamara snaps at him, “It’s not like she knows how to plan a party”.
“I’m sure William has people who can help us” I tell her in the most polite tone.
She rolls her eyes at me and pushes her plate away, “I have things to do”.
She storms out of the room as former Alpha Joseph look around at us. So much for not making enemies, I tell myself.
“I’ll see you at work”. He also stand up and ushers the maid to clean. After he leaves it’s just us and his younger siblings.
“That went well” Austin says in a sarcastic tone. Jenny laughs as William scolds them.
“I should get going as well” William says as he stands, “The maids will show you to our room”. He kisses the top of my head before walking out of the room. Suddenly the realization of his words hit me.
OUR ROOM?!?!
“Excuse me” I tell Austin and Jenny.
Dashing out of the room, I catch William by the entrance.
“William!” I say his name as I take him by surprise.
“Can’t get enough of me?” He asks in a seductive voice. Eww. He thinks he’s being sexy but it only makes my skin crawl.
“Our room?” I ask.
His face falls as I mention this, “Yes our room. What about it?”.
“I thought I could have my own room-“ I try not to stutter as he brings me closer to him.
“Now why would you think that?” His face now extremely close to me as I feel his fingers digging into my back. I try to lightly push him off as his grip tightens.
“So that I would be pure for my Luna ceremony” I lie quickly. I can see a smirk forming on his face as I say this.
“Pure?”
I nod quickly, “Yes. My mother always told us that she was pure until her Luna ceremony and I thought-“
“We would have to wait a whole month until the next full moon” He says in a growl. I stand my ground as I watch his eyes turn red.
“Please?” I say batting my lashes and praying to the Goddess that my little ‘innocent’ act works.
He doesn’t say anything as his eyes scan my face. Nor does he loosen his grip either.
“Fine” He huffs in defeat. I smile as I feel my body relax.
“Thank you”
“I’ll have Miriam fix you a room” he tells me as he lets me go. “I’ll see you tonight”.
He turns to leave as I take a step back. Once the door closes, I make my way to the kitchen to find Miriam. Only I don’t find Miriam, I find Tamara talking to a long legged blonde. They stop talking once I enter the room.
“What do you want?” The blonde snaps at me.
“I was looking for Miriam”.
“Who?!” Tamara obnoxiously asks. I mentally roll my eyes at her as her attitude is absolutely horrendous.
“The maid” I say this time.
“Don’t care” Tamara snaps at me as the blonde laughs. I get the feeling that they’re very good friends.
“As I was saying” Tamara speaks louder now, turning her back towards me, “Dad says they haven’t answered our proposal”.
“So you won’t get married?” The blonde asks as she eyes me. She looks me up and down as she makes a disgusted face.
“Of course I will” Tamara cuts back, “They’ll have to accept it and then I’ll be the Queen”.
I almost choke on my own spit as she says this. Did she say Queen?!
“What are you still doing here?!” She yells at me. I don’t answer as I have nothing to say.
“Your brother choose a dumb girl” The blonde says laughing.
I can feel my wolf Amora begging to be let out. To slap this girl for thinking she’s better than me.
“He can choose whoever he wants” Tamara says as the blonde lowly growls, “I’ll be gone soon. I’ll be part of the Royal Pack as Nick’s wife. As his Luna and Queen”. She squeals as she says the last part.
I walk away as I hear the blonde call me an ugly creature. Ignoring them both, I continue walking.
The Royal Pack…something about that tugs at me. Not the Royal part but the guy she mentioned…Nick.
Entering the foyer again, I realize nobody gave me a tour of this place. I try not to panic as I think of my next move.
“Valentina!” Jenny squeals as she comes to my rescue. “Have you seen your room?!”
“Actually no” I chuckle, “Can you show me which one it is?”
Her eyes grow huge in delight as I say this.
“Come on!” She grabs my hand as she pulls me upstairs. She stops at the third floor and turns left. “This is the guest floor. Which is where you’ll stay”.
She pulls me into the first bedroom on the left as I see Miriam cleaning inside.
“Luna! I’m sorry it’s still a mess” Miriam says all flustered.
“It’s okay Miriam. It was a last minute decision” I tell her as she smiles. She relaxes as I walk further into the room.
“Look what my brother bought you!” Jenny squeals as she pulls me into the walk-in closet.
My mouth falls open as I see rows and rows of clothes. All with the tags still on them. I walk to the wall of shoes where I notice all of the name brand heels, boots, flats and sandals. He even got my size right…creepy.
“Where are the clothes I brought with me?” I ask out loud.
“Alpha William told me to store them nearby” She points to a corner in the closet where I see my suite cases lined up. I nod as I suppress my tears. He’s now choosing what I wear. Of course he is.
“Do you like your closet?” Jenny asks as she admires the purses.
“Yeah, so beautiful” I simply say. After having enough of the new clothes, I walk out to see the room. A Queen size bed in the middle of the room. Silky sheets with a beige comforter on top. A hideous green chair next to the window.
Nothing about this feels like home, I tell my wolf Amora.
That’s because this isn’t home. She reminds me.
I hear a phone ring as I continue to look around. I can hear Miriam speaking on the phone with William. After a while, she lightly taps me on the shoulder.
“Luna?”
“Yes?”
“The Alpha’s mother is expecting you at Zeynep’s Bridal Store”.
I nod as I’m guessing William made her include me in the wedding planning.
“Can I come?” Jenny asks sweetly. I nod as she does a happy dance. “I’ll go change!”
I laughs as I watch her skip away.
“Thank you Miriam” I tell the maid as she gathers the cleaning supplies, “Tell the guards that Jenny will be coming as well” She nods as she walks out.
Once the door closes, I lay on the huge bed and close my eyes.
I pretend I’m in my room…waiting to see Samuel. Like how it was before. Doing homeschooling while I waited for him to come home from school. But nothing will ever be like how it was. I made this choice and now I have to accept the consequences. Nothing will change my fate now…
