Why Am I So Violent in This World We Live In? As I sit here and reflect on the state of our world, I can't help but wonder why violence seems to be an ever-present force. It's a question that haunts me, and I believe it's crucial to delve into the factors that contribute to this unsettling reality.Perhaps it's the environment in which I was raised that has shaped my disposition towards violence. Growing up in a neighborhood plagued by crime and unrest, I witnessed firsthand the consequences of aggression. It became ingrained in me as a means of survival, a way to protect myself from the dangers lurking around every corner. But now, as I navigate through life, I find myself questioning whether this learned behavior is truly necessary.Another possibility is the people I am surrounded by. Our social circles play a significant role in shaping our attitudes and actions. If we find ourselves in the company of individuals who resort to violence as a means of resolving conflicts, it becomes all too easy to adopt the same mindset. It's crucial to evaluate the influence of those around us and strive to surround ourselves with individuals who promote peace, empathy, and understanding.Life experiences, too, can leave an indelible mark on our psyche. The scars of past traumas can manifest as a constant need to be on guard, to protect ourselves from potential harm. These experiences can create a heightened sense of vigilance, leading us to respond with aggression as a defense mechanism. However, it's essential to recognize that not every situation warrants such a response and to seek healthier coping mechanisms. While these factors may contribute to my inclination towards violence, it is crucial to acknowledge that we all have the power to change. Awareness is the first step towards transformation. By recognizing the roots of our violent tendencies, we can actively work towards breaking the cycle.Let us strive to create a world where violence is not the default response. It starts with each one of us, examining our own actions and choices. We must challenge ourselves to seek peaceful resolutions, to empathize with others, and to foster understanding. Only then can we hope to create a world where violence becomes a thing of the past.(C) R. Nate Parker
