Jakes POV
I had been leaving for weeks at a time. Each time I came home I was surrounded by her scent and my wolf would lose it. I wanted to just hold her. I hated seeing her in her state. She would have Sam and Ty take her out of the room and just walking downstairs was a fight. She would be in so much pain that it would kill me. After a few months of leaving she finally came to me and begged me to stay.
“Please, stop this.. I am begging you..”
“No”.
“Jake, please!”
“Why? I am the alpha and I will decide who to go after and who to leave alone”.
She sat in silence and I could tell she was mad at me. I left the room and shifted into my wolf. Blaze was angry at me for hurting her but she would have to get over it just like him. We were doing this for HER! I couldn't see why she wanted me to stop.
This was the longest I had been gone. I thought that by being away it would give her space. My men obviously kept in contact with me and gave me updates. I was excited and proud to hear she took up training lessons. She never could take down my men though. I felt Blaze growl at the thought of my men with their hands on her. Truthfully I hoped that by being away I would get these stupid feelings under control but now I just missed her even more. I thought about breaking the bond just say the words and getting it over with. If I am not her mate then it should be fine. If I am then we can both move on. At the thought my heart throbbed and it felt like it was breaking. I wondered if she could feel it too. I shook my head and cleared those thoughts away. I needed to figure out this whole bond thing with her. She has no wolf- she's never shown signs of one. She doesn't react to my body or the bond. This has to be an infatuation. Maybe I do only see her as family to protect? I let out a groan and proceeded to head back home.
I arrived at the clearing and saw the warriors in the training yard. In the center of it all was Nicole. She had her hair tied up in a tight ponytail but strands were falling down around her face. She was wearing a sports bra and athletic shorts. I could tell she put on weight and her body was more muscular. She looked amazing. She was panting and watching her opponent closely. Sam was circling her waiting for his move. I see his tell and know he's going to lunge. She quickly side steps and pushes him into the dirt. Everyone laughs. I can hear them talking and I can only imagine what is being said. I watch again and see Sam ready himself. He brings his hand up towards her head and she ducks but misses his leg. He hits her in the thigh and I see her go down. Blaze lets out a fierce growl and I am glad to be far enough away that no one can hear it.
I watch on ready to end my Beta when I see him rush over to her. I am shocked to see her take him down and end the fight.
“Our little mate is fierce” I hear Blaze say.
My lips curl up into a smile. I am proud of her. She's come a long way.
I walk towards her and everyone goes silent. Her eyes meet mine and I fight the urge to kiss those perfect red lips.
“I see that you finally took down my Beta”. I can't help the pride and admiration I feel when I say this.
My eyes shift to a hand wrapped around her shoulders and I follow it back to my Gamma. My eyes flash a warning at him and he quickly drops it. Without so much as a warning she turns and leaves but I can sense the annoyance rolling off of her in waves. I was irked.
“Hey! Where are you going?”
“To shower” she said without so much of a glance.
“I'm talking to you” the growl escaped before I could even stop it. Dont get me wrong I knew this was stupid to be so mad but she was hurting my pride and my wolfs bond.
She shrugged, not caring what I had to say. “So?” she asked nonchalantly.
I couldn't keep it in. My wolf surged forward and sped across to her. I grabbed her to stop her and boy oh boy was that a mistake. She whipped around and glared at my hands holding her in place then that icy glare met my eyes.
“Let. Me. Go.”
I swear if I didn't know any better I would have heard a growl come out.
Blaze was pissed off now. He flashed our eyes to let her know she was pushing too far.
“I have done nothing but look after yo-'' I couldn't finish my sentence when a laugh escaped her lips. It was cold and bitter and it sent a chill down my spine.
“Don't finish that sentence, Alpha.”
The way she said my title would normally get me off but this time it was filled with hatred.
“You found me and sure you got me medical attention. But after that all YOU have done is sit here and keep me prisoner”.
“THAT IS NOT TRUE!” I yelled and I wished I could take it back.
I saw her eyes darken slightly and she reached up as tall as she could to look me in my face. She was cute being shorter than me but now that she was in my face I felt a bit uneasy. No one has ever had the guts or even willpower to look me in my eyes. What was even scarier was the tone she used when she spoke. It was bone chillingly calm.
“Listen here, Alpha, you blatantly ignore my request to stop this manhunt–”
“But–”
“I. AM. NOT. DONE.”
I felt Blaze cower a bit. I looked down and sighed. I f****d up.
“ Did you ever think that maybe by you searching for them that they may find me before you find them? And sure I have your little lackeys here to watch over me but you do not get to decide when to put my life at risk again. I was locked away for 10 years. TEN YEARS!!! You really think I did not fight? You really think I didn't try to escape sooner?! THEY KILLED MY ENTIRE FAMILY!!! So until you stop this stupid search you can forget about me ever speaking to you”.
My heartbeat frantically because I truly had not thought of that. I didn't think that by me looking and asking questions it could lead the people I was hunting back to her.
I stood there silently as she stormed off. I heard the door slam and flinched. My men stood in silence behind me and I could practically taste the fear rolling off of them. No one has ever spoken to me that way before. It was usually a death sentence to disrespect an alpha. But here I stood like a scolded puppy with my tail between my legs. That damned female.
I heard Tyler send everyone off as Sam came up to my side.
“Alpha?”
“I screwed up with her… again” I whispered.
“She's just–” Sam stopped when I gave him a look.
Tyler was the one who finished the sentence after him.
“Shes spirited. I haven't once sensed a wolf in her and yet she took down a Beta? She's got a lot of heart.”
I smiled slightly. I was super proud of her. “That she is..”
“Boss, just go apologize to her.” Sam stated.
I let out a groan and rubbed a hand down my face.
“I cant talk to her” I say back.
“Seriously. Just go to her and say that you're sorry”
“And I don't know… Maybe it's time to tell her the truth?” Tyler added.
“The truth?” I asked.
“That she is your mate” He said matter of factly before walking away.
Sam gave me a gentle half smile before walking off too.
Great. I guess let's do this.
I walked into the house and to her room. I knocked but got no response. I listened closely and heard the water running. I turned the knob and the door opened so I let myself in. Sitting on the bed I stared at my hands and tried to place the words I wanted to say. She opened the door and I could smell her scent flow out the bathroom and fill the room. I inhaled deeply and forced my eyes up. She had her hair wet and loose around her shoulders and she had a towel wrapped around her frame. Her long tanned legs were on display and her breasts were pushed up slightly. I knew if she made the wrong move I would have a lovely show on display for me.
I could literally feel Blaze drooling in my mind.
Calm down you mutt! I scolded him.
He growled at me before settling in my mind.
“What are you doing here?” She asked me. Her voice was still agitated.
“I think we need to talk”.
“Oh you don't say? You didn't want to listen to me before today”.
“I know.. And I am sorry.. I should've listened to you”.
I let out a sigh and my eyes traveled down her body again.
I grimaced as my c**k twitched in my pants. Great, this is all I need.
“Can you please get dressed so we can talk”. I state with more force than intended.
She smirks slightly and saunters over to her closet. She grabs a pair of shorts and an oversized t-shirt. She looks delicious. After changing in her closet she comes to sit down on the bed.
I move over slightly for her to fit.
“Thanks” I whisper for only her ears to hear.
“Nicole, I really am sorry. I didn't mean to make you so upset with me. I truly didn't think about it like that”
“Oh trust me I know”.
“I promise I won't go out searching for them anymore. I won't stop my research though”
She sat there and considered what I was saying.
“Why does it mean that much to you to find them?”
Her words hit me and for once I felt my heart drop to my stomach. I was nervous.
“Uhm..” I started and cleared my throat. “Well..”
She looked me in my eyes and c****d an eyebrow at me.
“Okay so i'm just gonna say it and hopefully you don't think I am crazy..”
She tapped her fingers on the bed waiting for me to stop fumbling my words.
“My wolf… He thinks… Well.. He cant sense…Ummm..”
“My wolf?” She finished for me.
I nodded.
“Right. I am aware that I don't have a wolf like you guys”.
Her eyes drift downward slightly and my heart ached for her.
“Since we can't sense your wolf.. We have been fighting with each other..”
“Why?” she asked me.
“Because, he thinks that there is some sort of…. Connection between us…”
She tenses slightly before she looks back at me.
What she did next surprises me. She covered her face and started laughing.
What the hell was I supposed to do now? What did I say that was so funny?
I furrowed my brows and stared on as she continued to laugh.
“I dont… what's so funny?”
She coughs a few times and tries to wipe stray tears from her eyes.
“You truly think that I am your mate?” She asked me.
Ouch! That hurt…
For once I agreed with Blaze. That was not what I had expected and it hurt me more than I would have cared to admit.
“Look no offense, Alpha, but I am not your mate. You can drop that notion”.
I look at her with confusion across my face.
“Why do you say that?” I inquired.
“First off, neither of us have claimed the other as mates. Secondly, I don't feel the mate bond”.
I felt my heart shatter. She was rejecting my ass, and not that I didn't deserve it, but I was hoping to work through this.
She stood and I saw her knees shake a bit.
“Look if that's all then you can leave, Alpha”. Her tone was solid and she still had a hint of attitude laced in when she called me by my title. I had lost all control of my body after that. I stood up and rushed to her. I pushed her into a wall and my hands held her chin. I looked at her and without thinking I leaned down and kissed her. My lips crashed into hers with passion. I felt electricity shoot through my body and Blaze surged to the surface. He looked at her and was proud of our work. She was a bit disheveled. Her lips parted and swollen. Her chest heaved up and down and we could see a blush creeping up over her neck and face. My wolf smirked and ran a finger across her cheek down her lips. She shivered at my touch and for a split second I swore her eyes flashed before she closed them. When her eyes opened they were her normal hazel colored so I brushed it off as a trick of the light.
“Wha-what was that for?” She mumbled as she touched her mouth.
I shrugged and stepped away from her. I watched her closely as she stared down at her hand before looking back at me.
“You tell me you didn't feel anything with that”.
She stood, shocked, in silence.
