I opened the car door and I felt sick to my stomach. His alpha presence was radiating off him and making the air thick with power. I felt my knees tremble and had to take deep breaths to steady myself. “What the hell were you thinking?!” I heard the men around me gulp and I knew that their wolves were submitting to their alpha. “Boss–” Tyler started but was quickly shut up by a killer glare from Jake. I stood up as tall as I could and put on a strong face. “We were just having some fun”. He growled and I saw his eyes flash pitch black. I had never seen his eyes so dark before. His voice became thick and when he spoke it was no longer man speaking, but beast. “You should learn your place FEMALE!” That was it. I was tired of having men talk to me like I was property. My temper quickly rose and I could actually feel it radiating off of me. I could hear the whimpers from the group of men behind me. They were feeling the power battle between Jake and I and it was affecting them tenth fold. “You do not own me, MALE. I am NOT your property. You do not get to keep me locked up in some room all day like a prisoner”. He growled and his teeth bared to show his teeth had elongated. He was trying to scare me into submission. “You. are. My. property.” He ground out. I lost control at his remark and I felt everything building up start oozing out of every pore in my body. Stepping closer to him I put my face as close to his without touching him. I could feel his breath and I knew he could smell my anger. “You listen closely, ALPHA. I do not care what you think we are. I would NEVER be with a man like you who only sees me as an object. I would rather die than to be mated with you”. His eyes returned to their normal gray color and I could see the hurt on his face. For a moment my heart ached for him. A brief moment. I was quickly moved on from that feeling when he pulled that wall back up and his face turned to its normal stoic resolve. I never once moved from my position. I challenged this alpha male with all that I had in me. I would not be seen as weak any longer. I felt pride wash over me as I saw him give in first by huffing and walking away. I turned around with a smirk on my face but it was quickly replaced by one of confusion and concern when I noticed the four men I was with previously were now on their knees, head bent, and eyes clenched shut. “What is wrong with you guys?” I asked. As if relieved, Sam and Gabe both exhaled and held their heads. Tyler and Jeff never once spoke but eventually stood up and kept their eyes down. “Uh-hm what was that about?” I asked again. “Yo-you.. Challenged him…” Gabe stuttered out. “So?” “Nicole… No one has ever been able to challenge him except for alphas and even so he has never lost a battle” Sam whispered just loud enough for me to hear. “The power you two emitted was excruciating!” Tyler stated gasping. I stood in silence as I watched some of the strongest members of this pack all stare at me for a while. I felt very uncomfortable under their scrutiny. Did I really do something wrong here? I was so confused by their reactions and I was slightly relieved to see them all start walking inside. Sam and Tyler walked besides me as we went inside in silence. That silence became deafening when we opened the door and saw the packhouse. There was destruction the entire way upstairs. Tables were overturned and broken, glass shattered on the floor, claw marks stretched across the walls and railing. From the floors above we could hear the crashing sounds and roaring. The pack members on the lower floors hid away and watched in horror as the commotion continued. My jaw dropped and I felt myself gasp at the noise. Tyler placed a hand on my shoulder and squeezed it briefly before ushering me forward. “Just let him be. He just needs time”. “He needs more than just time Tyler”. I responded. “Come on, let's just go to the kitchen,” Sam said. I walked through the house tucked between two men that had made it clear that they would protect me. For once I felt scared. I was scared that I was back to where I was almost a year ago. The scariest part was that no one knew what I was. Jameson knew and that was why he treated me the way he did. If these men found out would I be back in chains serving them instead? God I hope not.
