Jakes POV I had really screwed up with her and I was trying my damndest to stay away from her. Every time she was around me I would feel my heart race and I wanted to be close to her. However, we kept avoiding each other more and more. When she wasn't looking I couldn't help but watch her. She was becoming more confident, she even started to become closer with my men. I didnt cherish the idea of her around other men but at least I knew she was protected and that my men feared me enough to not do anything stupid. Blaze was irritable and hurt from her basically rejecting us. I know what I feel but how can I be mated with someone who isn't mated to me? How did she not feel the electricity when we kissed? It made no sense to me at all. I wanted to test the bond further but I also couldn't stand to be so close to her and not be with her. She was driving me insane. I was working on some research in my office when I heard a knock at the door. “Come in”. Tyler and Gabe entered. “Alpha, reports are done like you asked and patrol has been posted for the night. Is there anything else you need from us?” Without looking up I shook my head. “No, that will be all. Enjoy your night”. With that they both nodded and exited my office. I knew that they would be going to “Le Loup Noir” which literally translated to The Red Wolf. It was a club that I owned and my men visited frequently. They enjoyed the company of the women there and I couldn't blame them. They were very beautiful women. “Not as beautiful as–” “Don't finish that Blaze”. I growled at my wolf in annoyance. *** I was growing tired and looked at my watch to see that it was after midnight. I was hungry and ready for a break from the work I had been doing. I hoped to find some sort of clue as to why she couldn't feel the mate bond but I could. I checked history books, elder scrolls, even fantasy and mythology books. Nothing. I rubbed a hand down my face and pushed myself up from the desk. Making my way downstairs I noticed it was quiet. The men must still be out at the club. Then it hit me. I sniffed the air and my heart fluttered when I could faintly smell her scent. It was an older scent. I ran up the steps and smelled each floor but to no avail did I find her. She wasn't here. I let out a loud growl and made my way inside her room. Her scent was stronger here and it helped to calm me down some. I mindlinked Sam. “WHERE IS SHE?!” I could practically hear him gulp through the link. “She- she's safe alpha. She insisted” “Get. back. Here. NOW!” “Yes Alpha.” I sat waiting in her room until I could hear the tires rolling up the drive. I ran outside and met them at the door when they pulled up. I had my arms folded across my chest and my eyes glared daggers at the car. The door opened and one by one they all exited and stood scared in front of me. Jeff, Gabe, Sam and Tyler all avoided eye contact. That wasn't unusual for them. But even Nicole averted her eyes. Did she fear me? Good. Right now she should. I could feel the anger and my pure power radiating off of me. The air was thick and I noticed her knees tremble slightly. It made me want to smirk at the effect I had on her. “What the hell were you thinking?!” I roared. My men all gulped audibly and I could see them all submit to me. “Boss–” Tyler started. I shot him a dangerous glare begging him to challenge me. He shut up instantly. My attention was brought back to her when she spoke. “We were just having some fun,” She said. She held her head high and I felt a spike of pride resonating in me before I was reminded how angry I was. Blaze took over and I had no control. My eyes turned pitch black and Blaze growled low and menacingly. “You should learn your place FEMALE!” He spit out the last word. I could smell her anger rise and I was more surprised when I felt her strength radiating off of her. The men behind her whimpered and I could tell they felt it too. She was strong. “You do not own me, MALE. I am NOT your property. You do not get to keep me locked up in some room all day like a prisoner”. Her words made me angrier. I was tired of her rejecting me! Blaze bared his teeth, showing her his canines and growled low. Warning her that if she continued this wouldn't stand. “You. are. My. property.” He ground out. I felt a power I had never felt before. Was she using an Alpha presence with me? How is that possible? The power and hatred rolled off of her in waves and I could practically taste her blood lust… She was going to go off. She stepped close and put her face right in front of mine. I could smell her every emotion. “You listen closely, ALPHA. I do not care what you think we are. I would NEVER be with a man like you who only sees me as an object. I would rather die than to be mated with you”. Blaze sunk back into my mind and I could feel my heart shattering. I hated this. She cant have so much control over me. I pulled my head out of my ass and returned my expression to one of indifference. She stood her ground and glared at me. Was she challenging me? I couldn't kill her. I wouldn't fight her. So I did the only thing I could think of. I huffed and stormed away. I slammed the door shut and destruction was all that was on my mind. I threw anything in my path. My nails elongated and I roared as I slashed the walls and railing. I made my way up the stairs and locked myself inside my room. I continued to destroy things in my room as I heard the front door open followed by gasps. I tuned my hearing to listen. “Just let him be. He just needs time,” Tyler said. “He needs more than just time Tyler,” Nicole responded. My heart ached at her words. “Come on, let's just go to the kitchen,” I heard Sam say followed by steps through the house. I leaned against the door to my room and collapsed down on the floor. I placed my hands on either side of my head and sighed. I was losing my mind, my control, and my mate.
