LOVE HOUSE: SECOND CHANCE Chapter Three — The First Mission That Changes Everything ------------------------------------------------ Morning in the mansion arrived too brightly. Too clean. Too staged. Minwoo decided he already hated it. He sat at the long dining table wearing an oversized hoodie, hair still messy, watching other contestants slowly gather like they were being summoned for judgment. Across from him, Jaehyun was already awake. Already composed. Already irritatingly calm. Minwoo muttered under his breath, “Does he ever look like a normal human being?” Yerin, who had arrived for a “special guest segment,” leaned in. “He does. You just don’t look at him like one.” “I do not look at anyone like anything,” Minwoo replied immediately. Yerin raised an eyebrow. “That’s the problem.” Before Minwoo could respond, the host entered the room clapping brightly. “Good morning, everyone!” Everyone instantly straightened. Minwoo did not. The host smiled wider. “Today is your first official mission.” A collective groan spread through the room. Jaehyun finally took a sip of his coffee. “Of course it is.” The host continued. “Today, you will be paired into couples.” The room erupted instantly—half excitement, half panic. Minwoo froze. Couples. No. Absolutely not. The host lifted a tablet. “Your pairings are decided by compatibility votes from yesterday’s introductions and audience reactions.” Minwoo whispered, “This is rigged.” Yerin whispered back, “You’re just unpopular with algorithms.” “I will remember this betrayal.” The host began reading names. “Lee Jaehyun and Cha Minwoo.” The entire room reacted at once. “OHHHH—” “No way.” “That was fast.” Minwoo’s soul left his body for a second. He turned slowly toward Jaehyun. Jaehyun blinked once. “…Interesting,” he said quietly. Minwoo pointed at him. “Do NOT say ‘interesting’ like that.” “I didn’t say anything wrong,” Jaehyun replied. “You’re emotionally dangerous,” Minwoo accused. Jaehyun stood up. “You followed me to the fridge last night.” “That was accidental proximity.” “That was stalking.” The host clapped again, delighted. “Perfect! Your mission begins now.” The Mission: “The Truth Date” --------------------------------- Each couple must spend the day together completing three tasks: Cook a meal together Share a personal secret Answer one question from the audience live Failure to complete all three results in punishment votes. Minwoo stared at the board. “This is psychological warfare.” Jaehyun calmly said, “It’s reality TV.” “That’s the same thing.” Task One — Cooking Together ------------------------------- The kitchen was chaos waiting to happen. Minwoo held a knife like it had insulted his family. Jaehyun stood beside him reading the recipe silently. “You’re chopping like you’re angry,” Jaehyun said. “I am chopping like I want this to end,” Minwoo replied. “You’re holding it wrong.” Minwoo paused. “Excuse me?” Jaehyun gently adjusted his hand. Their fingers touched. It was brief. Accidental. But Minwoo still froze like the world had stopped. Jaehyun didn’t react at all. Which made it worse Minwoo cleared his throat. “I was doing fine.” “You were about to lose a finger.” “I like my method better.” Jaehyun sighed. “Of course you do.” Somewhere behind them, cameras zoomed in aggressively. Production staff whispered: “This is too natural.” “They’re not acting at all.” “This is going to trend.” Minwoo accidentally dropped an egg. It broke. Jaehyun stared at it. Minwoo stared back. “…It attacked me,” Minwoo said defensively. Jaehyun finally laughed. Quiet. Short. But real. And Minwoo hated how much he noticed it. Task Two — The Secret ------------------------ They sat in the garden later. Wind moving softly through trees. For once, no cameras directly in front of them—just hidden ones. Minwoo picked at the grass. “So,” he said, trying to sound casual, “what’s your secret?” Jaehyun didn’t answer immediately. That alone felt strange. Then he said, “I don’t talk about myself easily.” “Congratulations, you fit right in here,” Minwoo replied. A pause. Then Jaehyun said quietly, “I used to be engaged.” Minwoo froze. That was not what he expected. “…Oh,” he said softly. Jaehyun looked forward, not at him. “It ended before the wedding,” he continued. “She left without explanation.” Minwoo’s voice lowered. “That’s… familiar.” Jaehyun nodded slightly. “That’s why I applied for this show.” Minwoo looked at him. “To find love?” Jaehyun shook his head once. “To understand why people leave when you think everything is fine.” The air between them changed. Not heavy. Just real. Minwoo whispered, “That’s a bad reason to come here.” Jaehyun finally looked at him. “So is yours.” Minwoo didn’t deny it. Because he was right. Task Three — Live Question ---------------------------- That evening. Studio lights. Live broadcast. Millions watching. The host smiled. “Today’s audience question is for Minwoo and Jaehyun.” The screen flashed: “Do you think love is worth it if it always ends in pain?” Silence. Minwoo leaned back first. “I think…” he started, then paused. The room waited. Even Jaehyun didn’t interrupt. Minwoo exhaled. “I used to think love was supposed to fix you.” A faint laugh from him. “That’s why I kept breaking myself trying to become someone worth staying for.” The studio went quiet. He glanced sideways at Jaehyun. “But I think I was just trying to earn something that should’ve been free.” A pause. Then Jaehyun spoke. “I think love is only worth it,” he said calmly, “if it doesn’t make you disappear.” Minwoo looked at him fully now. Jaehyun continued, voice steady. “You don’t become smaller to keep someone. You either fit… or you don’t.” The silence that followed felt heavier than applause. Minwoo didn’t look away this time. And Jaehyun didn’t either. After the Broadcast ----- Back at the mansion, the others had already gone to sleep. Minwoo stood outside on the balcony alone. Until footsteps approached behind him. He didn’t turn. “I think you enjoy correcting my life philosophy,” he said. Jaehyun stepped beside him. “You give me a lot to correct.” Minwoo huffed a small laugh. Then silence again. Not awkward this time. Different. Safer. After a moment, Minwoo said quietly, “Do you think people can change?” Jaehyun looked at him. “Yes,” he said. A pause. “But not for the wrong person again.” Minwoo nodded slowly, eyes on the city lights. For the first time, he didn’t feel like he had to perform happiness. And behind them— cameras keppt recording. Because somewhere in production control, someone whispered: “This isn’t a dating show anymore.” And no one disagreed hard To be continue ---------------
