I had made the decision to make the trip to Cedar Falls after my altercation with Lydia. I'd ordered Marcus to stay in the house and watch for any sign of Aria returning. She had to leave. She was never going to be my wife or my Luna. I wondered if I'd been complicit in stringing her along, but I'd always made my feelings on the matter clear. While she was welcome to stay at Night Shade, there was no future for her and me. There were others, of course, in the pack that had tried to sway me into moving on with her at the beginning. One of them had been Lennox. But whilst he had eventually realized that he would have to trade Maddison for Iris — animals don't really understand monogamy — he realized that, given the choice again, he would pick Maddison.
