Chapter 1
"Master, we have news about the woman you asked us to find. Her name is Leah Campbell. She's the founder and CEO of Regal International Cosmetics. It's a medium-sized company based in the International Tower."
A woman in black attire with a murderous aura was delivering her report to Tristan Cooper. He had just stepped off a private jet at Pearl City Airport.
Tristan replied, "Buy the International Tower. It'll be my first gift to Leah."
"Understood," the woman responded crisply. Phoenix was one of Tristan's most capable subordinates. Known for her efficiency, she immediately made a call to handle the matter.
If anyone overheard Tristan and Phoenix's conversation, they would be astounded.
The International Tower, also known as Pearl Tower, soared 100 stories high. Many citizens took pride in working there. It was not just the excellent benefits that made it a desirable workplace; it also served as the premier gathering spot for Pearl City's elite.
Socializing with those in this CBD was equivalent to setting a foot in Pearl City's powerful business circle, which was of immeasurable commercial value.
Acquiring such a building was no small feat.
However, Phoenix received a callback within half a minute.
"Master, the deal is done. The International Tower is now under your name," Phoenix reported. "Additionally, the previous owner, Zach Taylor, asked if you would like a handover ceremony—"
"Tell him to manage it for another month. We'll make a decision after that," Tristan interrupted.
"Understood," Phoenix replied respectfully. Then, she added, "Master, Ms. Campbell has a five-year-old daughter."
Tristan was taken aback by her words, and a flicker of guilt crossed his eyes.
'A daughter… She bore me a daughter!'
Five years ago, a fateful accident bound him and Leah together.
Tristan was orphaned at a young age, and the Lewis family ended up taking him in. The family's patriarch, Leonard, treated him like his own son, while Tristan saw him as a father.
Five years ago, the Lewis family's business faced severe financial losses, and they almost went bankrupt. To resolve the problem, Leonard requested Tristan to marry the Scott family's daughter, Yvonne Scott, and Tristan agreed to the plan so that he could repay his foster father's kindness.
Unbeknownst to him, it was a scheme by the Scott family to steal the Lewis family's business secrets.
He was brutally tortured on his wedding day. Yvonne had him kidnapped and locked in a seaside shack where he slept with a drugged stranger, who turned out to be Leah.
Yvonne recorded a video of them getting intimate. She used it to threaten Tristan into revealing the Lewis family's business secrets and tortured him severely. However, Tristan refused to divulge anything. So, he was thrown into the sea and left for dead.
Miraculously, a mysterious military unit rescued him. Not only did he survive, but he also joined the most mysterious special unit—the Dragon's Breath.
His five-year experience on the battlefield transformed him. He had completed numerous secret missions and achieved countless feats.
Against all odds, he rose to become the highest commander of the unit, and he was given the code name, "Dragon Lord." He finally found the woman who had been on his mind all these years, and she had borne him a daughter.
"I'm going to marry Leah," Tristan declared solemnly. "I want a grand wedding. Begin the preparations immediately."
He wanted everyone to know that Leah was his wife. He also wanted to make amends for his years of neglect toward her and their daughter.
"Head to the International Tower." Tristan wanted to see Leah and their daughter immediately.
Upon his command, his subordinates respectfully open the door of his black Rolls-Royce Extended.
There were dozens of military vehicles behind the Rolls-Royce.
Dozens of muscular, stern soldiers also stood in two formations. They were there to welcome Tristan back into the country.
As he got into the car, they stood at attention and saluted him, "Farewell, Dragon Lord!"
Their voices echoed as the car drove away.
Looking out the window, Tristan recalled the humiliation he had experienced on his wedding day. He vowed to make every member of the Scott family pay for their cruelty.
After several minutes, the Rolls-Royce stopped in a bustling commercial area. He was surrounded by towering buildings, but the most magnificent one at the center was the International Tower.
Once he got out of the car, Tristan waved Phoenix away and looked up at the entire building with determination. "Leah, my dear daughter, I'm here..."
Just as he was about to enter the building, a vehicle drove into the underground parking lot. Then, a woman in formal attire stepped out.
Spotting the woman, Tristan was startled. She was Lara Lewis, the daughter of his benefactor, Leonard.
They grew up together. If it were not for the incident with the Scott family, Lara might have become his wife.
However, after everything that had happened, he no longer had romantic feelings for her. He only saw her as a sister.
Tristan approached her with a smile. "Lara, long time no see."
Lara was heading toward the entrance, but she stopped in her tracks.
She turned around, and upon recognizing Tristan, her expression changed dramatically, as if she had seen a ghost. "You-You're… Tristan?"
Tristan thought that she was simply shocked, so he smiled and nodded. "It's me."
To his surprise, Lara's expression turned venomous. She glared at him, as though he were her enemy. "How are you not dead?!"
